Chapter 212 The Alpha's Curse

Chapter 212 The Alpha's Curse

Calhoun's POV.
"I was thinking you'd avoid me forever," My grandmother says immediately I make my presence known.
"I haven't forgiven you, grandmother. And aside that, I won't let you come any close to Kristen and our son. You're a threat to them," I grit out, shooting her a flat look.
Nana Joyce sighs, and nods with regret taking over her eyes.
"You have every right to be angry at me," she says, rubbing the side of her arm.
I choose to stay silent instead, because I don't want to talk about Natalie and Nana Joyce's hatred towards my wife.
"You saw witnessed what happened to me at my Beta's funeral," I go straight to the point because it's the reason why I even came here.
"Yes, and there's something I need to tell you." Nana Joyce utters.
Clenching my jaw, I turn to face her, my expression guarded. "What is it, Grandmother?"
"It's about the curse that haunts our family," she reveals at last.
My eyes narrow/, suspicion surfacing as I listen to her words. "Curse? What are you talking about?"
"It started with your grandfather, Calhoun. He murdered a werewitch, and before she took her last breath, she cursed him," Grandmother explains, her voice filled with the weight of history. "A curse of paralysis and forgetfulness that's haunted our bloodline ever since."
Skepticism battles with fear within me. "How does that affect all the Alphas in our family?" My eyes are wide with curiosity.
"The witch's curse tied itself to the essence of the Greyhound pack. Each Alpha bears the weight of the curse, triggered when they turn 33. Your grandfather, your father, and now you, Calhoun," Nana Joyce discloses.
I take a hard hurtful gulp after letting this sink in. Turning away from my grandmother, I face the wall.
Wondering why this was kept away from me until the curse started making it's way into my body.
"I went through a lot as the young Luna of the Greyhound pack. Suffered for your grandfather's sake. If I wasn't so strong headed, I would have lost everything. They could have kicked me out of the pack. But I had men and women with me for support," Nana Joyce adds.
And my mind races, trying to grasp the magnitude of what my grandmother just revealed. "Why didn't you tell me sooner? Why keep it a secret?" I grit out, returning my attention to her.
Nana Joyce sighs, her gaze heavy with regret. "I wanted to protect you, Calhoun. The curse is a burden. that can break even the strongest spirits. But you need to face it now, armed with the knowledge of our family's history."
My shoulders slumped with the weight of the revelation. I don't want Kristen and Aiden to bear any suffering for my sake. I can't even disclose this to her, I need to find a solution before it gets late. "What do I do? How do I break the curse?"
"Breaking the curse isn't easy. It requires facing the ghosts of our past, understanding the werewitch's rage. You'll need the strength of the pack and the love of those closest to you. That's why I wanted Nana at your side, because I feared I would lose you. But now, I only realize my mistakes," Nana Joyce looks away from me as tears brim to her eyes.
"I'll face it, Grandmother. I won't let this curse define me." I say at last, with determination.
Suddenly, the paralysis strikes again, and I groan,
attempting to cling to the wall for support.
"Calhoun!" Nana Joyce's scream pierces the air as she rushes to my side.
Panic grips her as she sees me in this vulnerable state,
tears streaming down her face. The curse tightens its grip, spreading pain through my brain until my fangs and claws emerge in full display.
"Grandmother, it's... it's getting worse," I rasp, my voice strained with pain.
She reaches out to touch my trembling hand, her eyes wide with fear.
"We need to find a way to stop this, Calhoun. You can't let the curse consume you." Her voice is
breaking.
The pain intensifies, and I grit my teeth.
Ig
"I don't know how much longer I can hold on. It's
overwhelming." I groan.
Frantically, she searches the room, desperation
evident in her actions.
"There must be something in our family records, an ancient remedy, a way to break the curse." My grandmother is completely helpless upon seeing me
like this.
I stagger, my body losing strength.
"Find it, Nana. Please, find it before it's too late." I
say, trying as much as I can to hold onto my strength, because I don't want to depend on Nana Joyce or anyone for support.
She rushes to a dusty shelf, sifting through old manuscripts and journals.
"I remember stories, whispers of a forgotten ritual.
But I need time to decipher the old texts." She voices
out.
As I collapse to my knees, the pain tightening its grip, I can feel the urgency in her movements. "Hurry, Nana. I can't endure this much longer." My
eyes are already fluttering in their sockets, as my hands secure my head.
Clutching an ancient scroll, she scans the worn pages with determination.
"This could be it. A ritual to break the curse, but we
need rare ingredients and the pack's support." Nana Joyce is panicking.
"Tell me what we need. I'll do whatever it takes." Fighting against this pain is futile because it just gets
worse at each breath in take.
"We'll fight this curse together, Calhoun. The pack will stand by you." My grandmother assures me, nearing my side to offer support.
"Don't," I stop her, and manage to get on my feet by myself.
"We need to get you help as fast as possible, else it will worsen and you'll be unable to remember anything." Nana Joyce makes this known to me. Groaning, I struggle until I help myself into a chair close by.
"I need you to do something for me, grandmother." I say.
"Yes, Calhoun. Anything." Nana Joyce nods while sniffing.
