Chapter 204 A Good Day
Chapter 204 A Good Day
Kristen's POV
The sun dips low, casting a warm glow over the rooftop garden as Maddy, Sapphire, and I delve in the refreshing embrace of the swimming pool.
Laughter echoes against the high walls, and I wonder what on earth I have been doing with my life before today. Missing out on this luxury, actually.
It's feels so good to have my friends here with me to bond with, and it makes me forget about my identity for sometime. Luna of the Greyhound pack.
Suddenly, Sapphire's eyes sparkles with an unspoken secret. "Guess what, guys? I've got some news," she exclaims, her grin stretching ear to ear.
Maddy and I exchange curious glances, our
anticipation rising. "Spill the beans, Sapphire!" I urge in a calm tone, although there's excitement bubbling within me.
Sapphire takes a deep breath, the water droplets glistening on her skin. "Bruce proposed, and I said yes! We're engaged!"
What!?
Silence suddenly envelopes us as we try to process this.
Mostly me.
And Maddy and I are still staring at ourselves with wide eyes, still shocked by the news we just heard from our best friend.
Then, almost simultaneously, Maddy and I erupt into a chorus of surprised squeals.
"Engaged?!" I exclaim, my mind struggling to process the unexpected turn of events. "But... Bruce and the baby... I thought..."
Sapphire nods, understanding the confusion in my eyes. "It's complicated, but we've been talking. He's coming around, and we want to make things work for our child."
My mind races with a whirlwind of emotions. "Bruce proposed while he's still figuring out the whole fatherhood thing?"
Sapphire chuckles, the sound carrying a mix of amusement and understanding. "Love has its own timeline, right? Besides, he's excited about the baby now. The engagement is a commitment to our future together."
Maddy, always the optimist, chimes in, "I guess love does work in mysterious ways. Congratulations, Sapphire! This calls for a celebration!"
An out later, Bruce joins us. Not in the pool. He's fully clothed in his office wear, and I haven't seen him
under a different light before, until today.
He's marrying my best friend!
Calhoun isn't here with him and I'm certain he just stopped by just to check up on Sapphire.
He comes to squat at the pool side, waiting for Sapphire to dip her head out and they kiss soundly in
the mouth.
"Oh," Maddy grins sheepishly and nudges her
shoulder with mine.
"They're so down for each other," I blink after
pointing this out. Because barely a month ago, Bruce denied the baby because he wasn't so sure and now,
they're together and in love.
Bruce's eyes met mine, and it's clear he's not very comfortable with his Alpha's wife, "I didn't see this coming, but I want to be there for our child and for
Sapphire," he admits.
Sapphire squeezes his hand, a silent reassurance passing between them. "We're in this together, Bruce. And who knows, maybe our unconventional story will turn out to be the most beautiful one."
I can't help but smile at this. They deserve the best. Bruce almost being Calhoun's backbone throughout the years and Sapphire being one of the realest and supportive person I have ever known.
Right after Bruce leaves, Sapphire, still beaming from the engagement news, insists we hit the town for a celebratory drink. "Come on, it's a night to
remember!" she urges, excitement lacing her voice.
I hesitate, my thoughts already drifting toward my responsibilities. "Sapphire, as much as I'd love to, I've got my son to take care of. Calhoun can't be left wondering, and I want to be there for him."
She pouts playfully. "Oh, come on, just one drink. Calhoun will be fine for a few hours."
"I appreciate it, really, but I can't," I insist, my maternal instincts pulling me away from the allure of a carefree night.
As Sapphire reluctantly accepts my decision, I find myself reflecting on the harsh weeks that led to this moment. "You know, it's been quite a journey," I muse, my gaze distant as my thoughts flood back.
Maddy, ever perceptive, chimes in, "From that second mate haunting spirit to the mask you wore to
protect ourselves... it's feels surreal."
Sapphire nods, her eyes reflecting understanding." Who would have thought you would go to the Sliverline pack to seek help from the werewitches? Calhoun was so supportive to stand by you."
"Yeah, it was eye-opening," I agree and I can feel a
smile hitting my face from going down this memory lane because I will never trade Calhoun for anything, even if life has been so hard on us.
"Each time Calhoun and I face challenges, we stand together as one. And it brings us closer than ever."
My friends don't utter a word at this, they just stare at me with admiration and respect, because they had no idea I would go through so much and still remain strong, even become a better version of myself. Letting out a low sigh, I pick up the wine bottle and refill our wine glasses. Wordlessly telling my two best friends how I'll keep being humble towards them in spite of my status as Luna of the Greyhound pack. Although I never mentioned that Nana Joyce freed my mom from the dungeon and tried to bring her back into Calhoun's life.
Smiling, I hand them their wine glasses, and we click our glasses together.
They drink their wine, while I let my nostrils bask in
the rich smell, thinking about how life feels so good
this way.
And the glass is an inch away from my mouth when I freeze on my tracks.
"I'm so sorry, my Luna. I tried to hold him back but
he was persistent, kept calling out to you," Cynthia is apologetic.
While my mouth parts in utter shock from the sight
in front of me. Even my friends are mirroring my
expression.
Because Aiden is having us first walk.
"Mama," he calls out with a huge grin as he takes staggering footsteps towards me. And my heart leaps in my chest from excitement.
