Chapter 149 An Unusual Type Of Wedding
Calhoun's POV
I am getting married for the second time.
First was with the mother, and it failed because we weren't meant to be together in the first place.
And second is the daughter, who's my mate. The only woman I have ever loved with every ounce in me. Kristen.
To think I nearly lost her last night. Had she failed the Luna's trial, we would've been apart. But she proved to be the strongest and bravest woman I have ever known. By carrying out the Luna's rite and not failing.
I am more than glad that she passed, I couldn't even control my excitement last night, because the whole Luna trial thing felt like I was stepping into a quicksand.
It's a small wedding inside the moon goddess's temple, with just me and Elder Adolphus. and I am still waiting for my mate to show up.
No guests were invited, and no one even knows the wedding is taking place today because we didn't
announce the marriage date to anyone. Although they're all aware of the marriage in front.
But because I don't want what happened the last time to repeat itself, I chose a small wedding. No one will know how we got married until we come out in the open to tell them we did it secretly.
A lot took place during my first marriage, which was with Natalie. We were about to get attacked, Alpha Ezrah even sent someone to poison our wedding cake, and if Bruce hadn't figured this out, there would have been several dead bodies lying everywhere.
Now, I want things to be different with Kristen, because we've been through so much together. Even within these two days. The Game Of Alphas and The Luna's Rite.
"Are you sure she's coming?" Elder Adolphus has this unsure look on his face.
"Yes, just give her a few minutes. She's probably taking some time to prepare, "I defend Kristen in her absence. Although I don't know what the heck she's up to.
"If you say so," Elder Adolphus gives a little shrug with a wry facial
expression.
But I wait for the next ten minutes and Kristen doesn't even bother to show up.
My mind begins creating several dreadful images of my mate running away because she changed her mind. Perhaps she's afraid of going through another dreadful experience like the Luna's ritual.
Or it could be that she got kidnapped by Ben Gregory? The little shit who's still obsessed with her despite knowing he will never get a chance to be with her.
So many things can go wrong at this
point, but I don't want to let negativity be the order of the evening. Kristen will show up and we'll get married at
last.
Two hours later, I am still standing in the same position, breaking into a freaking sweat. The disappointment is gigantic in size.
Elder Adolphus is already seated in one
of the chairs, pouring himself some wine.
"Err, it's late already. Maybe you two
can come some other time," he utters quietly.
"No, just wait here, I'll go see what's keeping her," there's urgency and frustration in my voice.
"As you wish," Elder Adolphus agrees
and then he goes back to ignoring me.
I am almost out of breath as I run to
get Kristen. It's unlike her to keep me waiting, and not bothering to send me a message.
"Alpha Calhoun," Janette, her bodyguard, acknowledges my presence. She's in front, guarding
Kristen's door.
"Where's my wife?" I ask.
"She's busy," Janette doesn't even bother to move away from the door. She's still maintaining her position as the protective bodyguard that she is. And this has me wondering if Kristen
is up to something.
"With what?" I question, staring deep
into her eyes to detect if she's lying to cover up something.
"I don't know, she told none of us to
disturb her," Janette seems unsure of her response. And I decided I won't question her any further.
"Out of the way, I need to see her," I
order in a calm and commanding tone.
Janette nods, quietly obliges, and steps away from the door.
And as I take hold of the doorknob, images of what happened last year flashes through my head and I can remember everything.
How Natalie was cheating on me with Tony, our former headbutler. And Natalie deliberately asked one of her servants to guard the door. Only for me
to barge into the room to see her half- naked with the butler, in bed. Slapping a palm to my forehead, I puff
out a low breath to keep myself in
order.
Kristen isn't like that, I don't want to think she'd do such a thing.
I wait for a few seconds to catch my
breath before eventually pushing the door open. "Calhoun..." There's a look of shock on
Kristen's face when I storm into the
room.
Words leave my mouth, and I blink a
couple of times to let my brain fully align what's unfolding in front of me. Kristen is nursing Aiden for the first
time since she let him out into the world.
"I thought you weren't running milk," my voice is usually low.
"Oh, it started last night during the Luna's trial, and ever since, Aiden wouldn't let me rest," Kristen informs
me. She seems to be exhausted from where she's sitting on the bed as she nurses Aiden who in turn has his small hand securing her left bust which is completely clothed.
I gulp because it's just unusual for me,
seeing Kristen doing this for the first time. She's wearing her white wedding dress, but there seems to be a smear of
vomit on it. Something which I have no doubt was done by Aiden.
"I am so sorry for keeping you waiting,
our son cries every now and then and the only way to shush him is if I breastfeed him," she apologizes. At this point, I don't know if I should continue being frustrated or not. To think Aiden is the cause of it all. He
delayed the marriage. As tiny as he is. "Can the wedding still take place
tonight?" Kristen looks up at me innocently.
"No, Elder Adolphus already left," I lie, wanting to see her reaction. "Oh my god, it's all my fault. I should've carried Aiden along with me
"Just pulling your legs, Kristen... Let's get going," "But...
"Give him milk or something," "He won't accept anything else but
breast milk, nor can I leave him with
anyone. He'll burst into a full volume of wails and I don't want him to have a headache.."
Shit... I curse inwardly.
"Do you take Calhoun, Alpha of the
Greyhound pack as your husband?" Elder Adolphus pops this question,
staring at Kristen.
It's half an hour later and all four of us
are at the temple. When I say we're
four, I mean; me, Kristen, Elder
Adolphus, and Aiden. Yes, our son is here with us. We
couldn't leave him alone with the
servants, so as not to risk him getting
hurt.
And Kristen is still hesitant to reply to the question. Is she second-guessing herself?
Why is she taking time to reply? After everything we've been through, she's supposed to answer as quickly as
possible so we can get over this
marriage, and live together as man
and wife.
"I do," Kristen says at last, as she
stares at me with all the love in her
eyes.
Relief cascades through me, to the
extent that I almost sigh in satisfaction.
Elder Adolphus turns to me.
"Do you take Kristen, Luna of the
Greyhound pack, as your lawfully wedded wife?"
"I do," he barely finishes before I respond. Both Kristen and I exchange rings in a
rush.
"You may now kiss your bride," Elder
Adolphus instructs as he takes a step back away from us.
Just as I am inclining my head forward
to kiss my wife, a burst of wail stops
me.
It's Aiden.
He's in the baby carrier at my back.
Earlier, I volunteered to carry him
because I wanted Kristen to take a
break from him.
"I need to breastfeed him," Kristen
pushes past me and releases our son from the baby carrier.
We haven't even kissed and Aiden has
started again?
I don't even know how I'll deal with
him stealing Kristen's attention away from me.
I close my eyes in frustration for a few
seconds. Getting upset as each second
runs by.
No one told me I'd get to experience
this as a father, and I never saw it coming. Aiden is starting to get on my nerves
already. Demanding attention from Kristen to the extent that I can't do as I
please with her anymore.
"He's only a child, Calhoun," Kristen
beams at me, as she rocks him back
and forth.
Pursing my lips, I nod. Because I don't
know if the words that will come out of
my mouth will upset Kristen. "What?" Upon sensing my distress,
Kristen nights my arm with her shoulder.
"This isn't
marriage to
how I expected our
be," I confess before
quickly thinning my lips.
And Kristen chuckles, seemingly amused at my whining.
"I never wished for this to happen," I continue.
"Neither did I, but we have Aiden now, "Kristen pats my arm and smiles up at
me.
