Chapter 121 Saving Her
Calhoun's POV
Five months ago, I was restless while going in search of Kristen because she was kidnapped by Jack, who was obsessed with her. When I finally rescued her from him, a lot happened. She was paralyzed for twelve days and was suffering from memory loss.
Now, I am in the position I found myself in five months ago. Trying to find my mate because she was taken away by Natalie, her own mother who I am sure is up to no good.
I shift upon reaching Natalie's home, and Bruce who is beside me, does the same.
The door is locked when I hold the handle, and I quickly move
backward before jamming my body against the door to push it open. I do this for about five times before it works.
"There's no one in," Bruce informs me as he returns. He's been checking the whole apartment.
While I stay silent as I look through Natalie's stuff for any evidence that I can find.
Until I spot some badly carved wood on the floor.
"Christ!" Bruce exclaims when I lower my height to the floor to pick it up.
"It's from the Aspen tree," he has his eyes raised in their sockets when he says this.
And I clench my jaw because the Aspen tree is where pieces of wood are carved and it could be used to quickly kill a fellow werewolf, just one strike of it to the heart.
Natalie was trying to carve one right and made a mess until she got it right. And from the look of things, she had one with her.
I am breathing heavily because my mind is tormenting me, by showing me images of Natalie stabbing Kristen with a piece of wood carved from that Aspen tree.
"Do you think.." quickly, I stop Bruce with a glare because he's trying to say Kristen has been stabbed with wood from the Aspen tree.
"Don't even finish it," I warn, before turning away from my Beta.
I am indeed scared for my mate. Once Natalie sets her mind on something, she doesn't let anything get in the way.
Kristen left her friends to go out with her, because Natalie obviously put on a fake facade, to lie to her just so she would believe the woman didn't have anything in heart against her.
Shit!
And now, I don't have any clue of where my ex-wife has taken my mate.
"Calhoun, look?" Bruce's voice immediately slips me out of my thoughts.
And I quickly snap my gaze at him, only to see him pointing right ahead of me.
It's the window.
There's a small place built like a cabin at the back of the house.
"It might be that Kristen is there with Natalie," Bruce adds.
And in a rush, I sprint out of the house and I head to the cabin.
Upon reaching there, I hear familiar sobs.
Kristen... she laughs the way she cries.
In a swift motion, I hit the door open, only to be welcomed with a sight that I never expected.
Stewart, Kristen's father, is lying dead in the pool of his own blood. Even his eyes are open.
Natalie is covering someone with her body, her right hand holding the piece of carved wood in the air.
And my breath gets caught up in my throat because I know it's Kristen Natalie is trying to stab, even though I can't even see Kristen.
"Calhoun!" My pregnant mate cries out my name.
Upon finding me there, Natalie still inclines her hand downwards to Kristen's heart, to stab her.
I shift and run until my wolf pushes her away from Kristen.
It's been three hours but my mate is still mourning her late father. She's refused to leave the spot where she's sitting on the floor. She's sitting beside his dead body, and sobbing silently.
It's been three hours since I rescued her from getting killed by Natalie, her own mother. And Natalie has been chained and taken
away by my men.
Bruce is still here, he hasn't made any move to leave. Just standing at some corner and silently watching Kristen as she cries.
It's a huge relief that I arrived just in time to save her from getting murdered, but the pain she's going through is affecting me as well.
Stewart was her father who she didn't know for twenty-one years, until he showed up a month ago, after finding out that he has a
daughter.
Only to get murdered by the woman he had a child with.
"He tried to save me, Calhoun," Kristen's voice is groggy when she makes this known to me. She isn't even looking at me. Her eyes are still fixated on her dead father.
"I am so sorry, Kristen," this is the only thing I can say because I have no idea on how to comfort her.
"She killed him, Calhoun. A man who was trying as hard as he could to fit into my life. We hung out only on two occasions, and he was happy to be with me," Kristen sniffs as she shuts his eyes with her
hand.
And I have no one else to blame but myself. If I had arrived earlier, Stewart would be alive by now.
After being told by Kristen's friends that Kristen was with Natalie, Stewart couldn't even return to pass the message to me. He left on his own to meet Natalie, unknown that he was to meet his end.
Too bad he didn't know how Natalie was. He innocently went to check up on his daughter, only to get murdered by the mother. After sighing heavily, I sit next to Kristen and pull her into a one- arm hug, because I can't tell her to leave her father's body, upon seeing how badly she's hurting.
Kristen wraps her hands around me and sobs into my chest.
And even though she's grieving her father, I am glad I was quick to rescue her from getting murdered by Natalie.
