Chapter 2

Five Years Later...

“Oh, Goddess. But that was not the deal.” I hissed at Knox, the old burly man, who was looking at me like I was dirt under his shoe.

“Keep your voice low, girl. I am showing you patience which I don’t have,” he grunted.

“Then what am I supposed to do? This was not the amount we agreed on, this is not even double the amount you lent me. It’s tenfold. How would I pay you this?” I clenched my fists, his indifferent expressions were grating on my nerves.

“This is what we agreed on. Look at this paper, there is your signature. You should have read the papers carefully.” he taunted.

“You tricked me, you know it very well that this is not that paper. This might have my signature but this is not that document.” I snapped at him.

“You are accusing me of cheating. Is this what you are saying?” he growled.

The room that was full of chatter, just right now, was blanketed in a mournful silence. Every eye in the room snagged at me, I could feel the hostile stares, and some taunting too.

I knew where I was, and it was my fault, for raising my voice on their turf.

I was sitting in the clubhouse of Moon Crest Sharks. They are the people who run this small town, from the shadows. The leader of the MC Sharks, Wolfe, is a deadly figure in the town and I made an impulsive decision at eighteen that brought me here.

The Sharks ran everything illegal, there was nothing they couldn’t do, anything they couldn’t handle, and anything they couldn’t hide. They could hide me and nobody would know, not like there was anyone who would complain about me.

“I am not, I am just reminding you that this was not the amount we agreed upon. I can’t pay that much.” My voice was laced with desperation.

Because this was true, I didn’t have that money. Any money I can save up all goes to the private investigators that I hired to find my mom. I was barely making my days and this amount could not be paid in this lifetime.

Knox leaned in, his voice low and menacing, “You’ve got a lot of nerve to barge in here and demand the changes in the contract. But this contract is not some paper, this was fate and your sign sealed it. So believe it or not you have to pay that and we know how to take our money back.” he sneered at me.

His voice was downright mean and cruel, his order sent a chill down my spine and fear coursed through my entire body. My heart thudded radically, making it hard to comprehend the precarious situation I was in.

“I..I need time. I can’t ju..” I stammered.

His eyes glittered with an unhidden wicked glint, he was enjoying this, I could see that.

“Take your time, if that’s what you need. Let’s give you 2 days to think, but tomorrow at 12 am, you will have to answer us,” he said and chuckled.

I nodded and left the clubhouse and headed to my house, alongside which I had opened my own tailor shop. This was not a dream, but a necessity, I was good at designing, and at eighteen, when I had no one to look after me, I did what any desperate person would have done. I took out a loan and opened the shop. I had decent earnings, and maybe in another life I could call myself rich, but currently, I had to give more than half of my earnings as debt and the other half to the investigator. There was barely anything left for me.

I headed and started working on the orders that I needed to complete or else I won’t get a single penny.

The next morning, when I woke up, there was mail waiting for me in the mailbox.

When I opened the letter it was nothing but a blank black paper.

I frowned, “What the hell is this?” I whispered to myself.

Considering it was another one of the pack members' pranks I ignored it, the weird thing was that it also lacked any kind of scent, and this made me mad.

How could a wolf remove its scent?

I took a deep breath and started cooking dishes that Alpha River asked me to cook for today’s pack gathering. I hate pack gathering and if it weren’t for Alpha River inviting me, I would have never set a foot in that wretched forest.

That night’s memories are still engraved in my memory. I will never forget what that person did to me.

“Forget it, Serena, focus.” I sighed.

Clutching my freshly baked cookies I headed toward the gathering, I could hear the sweet laughter and the chatter. As I was near the clearing a group in haste stood in front of me, stopping me.

“Oh sweet Serena brought cookies,” Max cooed and tried to take them away from me.

“What do you want?” I hissed at them.

“We want a lot of things, but let’s just say we will start with these cookies.” he tried to snatch them again and I backed up, but this only made me closer to someone who was standing behind me.

My whole body tensed when I felt his hand on my shoulder.

“How pathetic you can be, you get humiliated still you always come back,” Raymond said and his fingers gripped my shoulder, making me wince.

“Don’t touch me,” I snarled and pushed him.

They all just laughed at me, as my strength was nothing to them.

“I can teach her,” Max said and he looked at my body in a lecherous way, making me feel uncomfortable.

They all started laughing, and again the mocking laughter echoed in my head.

“What the hell is going on over here?” a voice thundered, making my heart lurch in my chest.
