Chapter 15 Be Good, I'll Be Here from Now On
"What should I do, Mom? Kevin's really mad."
Rachel turned to Jenny, eyes brimming with tears.
"I know," Jenny sighed deeply, furrowing her brows.
She knew her sons' temperaments all too well, especially Kevin’s.
Ever since Kevin took over the Martinez Group, he became more assertive, but the Martinez family always stood by him.
From what he said earlier, it was clear he already considered that Amelia part of the Martinez family.
What tricks did that Amelia use to make Kevin, who never trusted anyone easily, start protecting her in just one day?
Jenny felt a lump in her throat, filled with frustration.
"Don't worry about Kevin right now. How are you feeling? Is your heart still bothering you?" Jenny asked Rachel.
Rachel was actually fine.
She just couldn’t stand seeing Kevin only have eyes for Amelia. She wanted to spend some alone time with him in the car, enjoying his care and attention.
But now that Kevin had left, there was no point in pretending anymore.
However, since she had already claimed her heart was hurting, she couldn’t just suddenly get better. So she clutched her chest, putting on a pained expression, "Still a bit."
"Then I’ll have Knox take you back to the Martinez Mansion."
Rachel was stunned, not expecting Jenny to say that.
Jenny, Kevin, and that Amelia were all at the event, and she had to go back to the Martinez Mansion alone? No way!
Rachel quickly said, "I'm fine, Mom. I'll just rest in the car for a bit. Besides..."
"Can’t you tell what’s important? What if your myocarditis flares up again?"
"I need to talk to Vaughn about Amelia. I can’t leave now. You go back first."
Jenny’s tone was firm, "I’ll call Dr. Palmer to head to the Martinez Mansion now. You go back and let him check you over."
"But..."
Rachel opened her mouth, finally understanding what it meant to shoot herself in the foot.
She had spent the whole afternoon carefully doing her makeup and dressing up, looking so beautiful, and now she had to leave after just five minutes of showing off?
But she couldn’t just tell Jenny she was fine now, could she? That would be admitting she was faking it earlier.
"Okay, Mom, I’ll go back," Rachel said bitterly, having no other choice. "But about Amelia and Mr. Williams..."
"Don’t worry," Jenny snorted coldly. "I would never let that woman’s child replace you in marrying into the Williams family. You just go home and wait for news."
[At the Event]
When Kevin and Amelia returned to the event, the auction had already started.
The guests were seated, holding number cards, with some having personal attendants standing by to record their bids.
Kevin took his number card from a server and sat Amelia down beside him.
"Amelia, about earlier..."
"It’s okay, Kevin."
Before Kevin could finish, Amelia held his hand and said softly, "Thank you for standing up for me. I’m really touched."
Amelia’s eyes sparkled. Being trusted wholeheartedly by someone gave her a deep sense of satisfaction.
Kevin couldn’t help but pat her head gently, "Don’t worry. As long as I’m here, no one will bully you."
"I know. Thanks, Kevin." Amelia smiled sweetly, nodding.
From the moment she stepped on stage, Amelia’s soul power had been continuously replenished.
In addition to negative energy, human admiration and affection could also strengthen her soul, given that she was a flower spirit.
Her makeup and performance tonight had amazed many people present.
And Kevin, from his initial indifference to his current concern, his affection for her was steadily increasing.
It had all been worth the effort.
That piece, “Summer Forest,” was incredibly difficult to play. Her hands were almost cramping by the end. If it weren’t to impress them, she wouldn’t have chosen it.
Amelia wasn’t really interested in the auction itself.
To her, observing the people here was more intriguing than the rare treasures on the auction block.
Suddenly, she spotted a familiar figure and her eyes lit up.
Sophie Russell was at the auction too.
It had been a long time since she last saw her.
In the audience, Sophie, with her short, sleek hair and fitted white suit, was seated on the right side of the venue, accompanied by a young assistant.
Sophie looked to be in her thirties, her skin well-maintained. Her sharp eyes and commanding presence marked her as a business powerhouse.
Sophie was a legendary figure in the business world.
Seven years ago, fresh out of her master's program, Sophie was determined to start her own business. She struggled to secure investment in River City, nearly giving up in despair.
Then, supposedly, a very influential person, after meeting Sophie and hearing her ideas, gave her five million dollars as startup capital, telling her to go for it and ask for more if needed.
Three years later, the nation’s first e-commerce platform emerged, revolutionizing shopping habits. Sophie’s Bailin Group quickly became a leading corporation.
However, Sophie wasn’t the largest shareholder of the Bailin Group. The true major shareholder was that mysterious, influential person.
It made sense.
The Bailin Group’s success only highlighted the foresight of that influential person who saw Sophie’s potential.
If someone bets five million dollars on your success, you’d do everything to prove them right and never forget their kindness.
Amelia hadn’t planned to contact Sophie.
With the Demon Hunter still looking for her, it was better to leave as few traces as possible.
But then she saw the auction item being brought up on stage and her eyes sparkled.
“Ladies and gentlemen,” the auctioneer displayed a red brocade box, “the item I have here is a twenty-year-old blood ginseng.”
“Blood ginseng is known for its miraculous ability to invigorate the blood and dissolve stasis.”
“Blood ginseng over five years old is rare, and one over twenty years old is almost unheard of.”
“This item was donated by Ms. Simmons of the Simmons family, with a starting bid of two million dollars. You may begin bidding now.”
Vera Simmons from the Simmons family?
The crowd started murmuring upon hearing this.
