Chapter Ninety-one
Chapter Ninety-one
Bryan
"What the hell do you want from me!?" Fear was obvious in my voice as four masked people suddenly barged into my room and grabbed me by the arm.
"Stop struggling if you don't want to die," the masked man warned in a serious tone. "We just need you to summon the lord. Stop resisting if you don't want more people to be involved."
Summon the lord? What the fuck is he talking about? Despite what he said, I continued struggling. I don't know what they want from me, but I'm sure it'll be cruel. "Let me go! Where are you taking me? Let me go!"
"Stay silent if you don't want me to hit you," he said, dragging me out of the room.
The emergency alert sounds can be heard all over the hospital. In the hallway, I saw Kacy blocking the exit. I don't know what the fuck she's trying to do, but I know it's dangerous. I can't let her die here. She must have gone crazy, facing four mongrels all alone.
The masked men shot her. I thought it was the end, but I sighed in relief when she used her shield to block the bullets. They stopped shooting. The masked man, who is probably their leader, gestured his companion to deal with Kacy. In a blink of an eye, she appeared right in front of her and gave her a super kick, sending her against the wall.
"Kacy, no! Just leave me!" I shouted, but she acted like she didn't hear me. She's so stubborn, as always. She told me not to act like a superhero, but now she's acting like she's Wonder Woman.
I know that masked woman was strong, and Kacy can't do anything against her in close combat. Seeing my girlfriend getting hurt by her, I felt so useless. I'm her boyfriend, but there's nothing I can do to help her. I'm so useless. So useless. But no matter how much I tell that to myself, it doesn't change anything.
A few moments later, the cops finally arrived, saving us from our demise. Their leader hit the back of my head with his gun. I fell unconscious, hoping that Kacy's doing fine.
"Are you okay?" Francis asked when I opened my eyes. "Jesus! I'm so worried about you. I thought they'd killed you already."
"Where's Kacy?" I asked, sitting up.
"Don't worry, she's doing fine. She was tough. The police need to ask her some questions about the commotion. They are investigating it," Francis replied.
"This is not good anymore. What if they come back again and kill us?" I couldn't help but feel worried.
"Don't think too much about it. The most important thing is that you're fine now. We can ask for the cop's help and hire some bodyguards to watch over you and Kacy. I'm sure they won't come back for a while after what happened," Francis said.
"What do you know about them?" I tried to stand up.
"Just sit down and relax. I've gathered data about them. They seem to be forming an organization. They have their logo, and I think I know where their current hideout is," Francis said.
"Some shady organization," it made me think even more. "But they didn't kill me. They didn't seem to want to kill Kacy either. They must be after something."
"You can't be sure. Although they might appear good, they still have their principles. Don't worry too much; I'm collecting more information about them. We can act once we know what they really want," Francis said.
"Thanks, man. You're so reliable."
"You're welcome. For now, there's only one thing you have to do: get more rest to recover yourself. The following days won't be easy for us."
"Um. Can you tell Kacy I want to see her?" I asked, lying down on my back.
"Sure. I'll be back in a jiffy." Francis walked towards the door and stepped out.
Something doesn't feel right about him. He's wearing those long jackets and black denim pants. I don't know why. I just feel weird. Or maybe I'm just overthinking. I closed my eyes and tried to get some rest.
Even in my dreams, I'm seeing Kacy struggling. Then a monster, an ugly monster with horns, smiling like a devil. I couldn't sleep thinking about it. It lingered in my head for a while, until someone knocked at the door.
"Bryan," the door opened and Kacy entered. "How are you?" She walked towards me.
"I'm good. How about you? Are you okay? They didn't hurt you, did they?" I asked.
"Nope. I'm just fine, though my back hurts a little bit. Don't worry about it. You should worry about yourself."
"I'm sorry." I spread my arms to give her a hug. Kacy moved closer and hugged me. "It's my fault that you got hurt. If only I could do something—"
"It's not your fault. Please don't blame yourself," Kacy caressed my back. "I understand your situation. You didn't have to do anything."
I felt a little bit better. I don't really know who to trust anymore. Even friends can suddenly become enemies and stab you in the back when you're not aware. But with Kacy, I feel at ease. She feels like home.
"Alright. Alright." She removed her arms from me and stepped back. "Are you hungry?"
I haven't answered yet, but my stomach already grumbled. I smiled awkwardly and scratched the back of my head.
"Can you wait here for a while? I'll get you something to eat," Kacy said.
"Um, thank you."
Kacy left to get some food. I waited for her. Even this silence feels strange, as if the walls have ears and faces mocking me for being so useless. I'm hearing voices, laughter, and cries. Have I lost my mind already? What's going on with me?
My body started aching. My bones cracked. My flesh expanded. I screamed in so much pain. I don't know what's happening to me. My head feels like it's going to explode. I stood up when the door suddenly opened.
Kacy stood frozen in front of me. The pack of food she was holding dropped to the floor. Her eyes widened as if she saw a monster.
