Chapter One Hundred Nine
Chapter One Hundred Nine
Gabriela
I sat there not knowing what to do with myself as I anxiously waited on the couch. The walls around me felt like they were closing in on me and it was beginning to become hard to even breathe. I felt suffocated. There were no windows in the room and the lights were too bright for my sensitive eyes. The silence didn’t help at all. Even with Gia and Dom in the other room, the door was closed, and they spoke too low for me to hear what they were saying.
Crossing my arms I stand back up and pace around the room once more. Nausea hit hard, making my growing anxiety to hit even higher. I rush to the bathroom what felt like the millionth time since I arrived here lifting the toilet lid I gag but nothing comes out. For long minutes I heave up absolutely nothing. I had nothing left in me to throw up.
My skin felt clammy and covered in sweat, my skin cool to the touch but heated underneath. Sitting on the site floor I lean against the wall wishing my stomach would stop churning. It's been a couple of hours since Enzo had deft and there wasn't any word from any of them. Not even Charlie. I was worried about them, about all of them and the hardest part about all of this was the fact that there wasn't anything I could do to help.
My heart felt like a fist in my chest, clenching and aching with each ticking of the clock that scraped against my nerves. I hated waiting but worst of all I hating not knowing. Not knowing it they were okay, not knowing if they were in trouble, not knowing if they were dead or alive. It was a horrible feeling mixed with worry and anxiousness.
Pressing the heel of my palm against my chest I will myself to calm down from the rising panic that was trying to surface. I take a deep breath that helped a little, even got my stomach to calm down a bit. For a few moments I sat there allowing my mind to go completely blank when suddenly a loud shrill blares through the silence making me jump nearly out of my skin. My heart slams in my chest as I quickly scramble back up and rush out of the bathroom and straight to Domenico's room where Gia yanks it open with wide eyes.
"What the hell is going on?" She nearly cries out.
The lights flashing all around us flickered red, pulsing like a heartbeat that made it seem like this place was alive or maybe it was my vision as I became a bit lightheaded from the sudden movement of getting up of the floor in such a hurry.
"I-I don't know." I Stutter not sure what to do or how to make it stop.
A sudden thud loudly sounds behind Gia and both of us looked in the direction of where Domenico was still in bed. Only he wasn’t in bed anymore. In fact, with great difficulty he was trying to stand up.
"What the hell are you doing?!" I cry out, rushing to his side.
Thankfully he allowed me to throw his arm over my shoulder to steady him. Grunting in pain he tries to stand up to his full height, but he winces with a slight hiss passing his lips. "We need to get to the control room." He grits out trying to take a step forward.
"Wait a minute, you can't just get up and walk there, you can barely more as it is!" Gia scoffs as she rushes to his other side.
"Someone's triggered the alarm system." He heaved as he starts going forward, most of his weight on the two us as we helped him through the door and into the hallway.
"We could have went and checked it ourselves, there was no need for you to get out of bed." I huff as we practically dragged him while he limped.
"No way am I just going to sit around waiting for who knows what to barge in here while the two of you get lost downstairs trying to look for the damn room. I know where it’s located so it's just easier for me to go."
I nearly rolled my eyes at that explanation but refrained from doing so. He was just as stubborn as his cousin was.
"By the time we get down there it'll probably be too late anyways." Gia mumbles making Dom give her a scathing look but doesn’t snap back. That made me just a bit curious.
"It's that door right there." He nods his head to a metal door that was basically stuck in the corner of the room that I had been waiting in.
Frowning, I noticed there was no doorknob and only a keypad. Guess I was too exhausted with concern to really check my surroundings. Once we got to the panel Dom didn't hesitate to punch in the code and the door slid right open. I pause, staring down into the dark abyss of stairs that only faded into complete blackness. None of us moved as we all just stared.
"The control room is down there?" Gia asks incredulously looking like she would rather go anywhere else but down there and I didn't blame her.
The place looked creepy as all hell.
"That's what I was told. "Domenico deadpans.
We both turn our stares onto him. "You've never been down there?” I ask a bit weakly.
"Well... not exactly. I was never allowed too." He tries to shrug but only causes himself pain with a wince.
The alarm kept blaring, and the red flashing light was starting to give me a headache. "Whatever let’s just hurry up and get down there." I quickly state needing us to get moving.
"I'll go first; we all can't go at the same time. Domenico grab the railing." Gia demands letting his arm go to do just that.
Dom grunts in annoyance but he doesn't say a word as he begins to follow her down. I watch the two of them for a few steps before taking a deep breath and follow right after them both.
