Chapter One Hundred Ten
Chapter One Hundred Ten
Gabriela
Each step felt like a dead weight as my heart pounded, not knowing what we were going to find in the control room. Even though it was pitch black down here it was the least of my worries. I was more concerned on what we were going to find on the surveillance cameras that I was one hundred percent positive were in there. Why else would it be called the control room and placed in a locked underground area? It only made sense.
"Watch your step here, the board is a bit loose.” Gia whispers as if talking loudly would cause an even bigger alarm or something.
"I’ll be fine, you don't have to keep babying me." Dom grouches but whispers all the same.
As soon as we get halfway the room become a bit more visible and another door was a few feet away from the landing. Underneath that door a blue luminescing light flickered as if the tv was left on or something.
"Is anyone else down here?" I ask Dom, instinctively grabbing a hold of his shoulder staring at that door.
He slightly shrugs. "Honestly, I'm not sure."
That answer didn't sit too well with me, but we all pressed on anyways. Heart pounding each of my steps echo with dread. Granted this place belonged to the Giordano's but with the alarms still blaring above, I was beginning to freak myself out that we weren't alone in this place. The doctor had an emergency at the hospital, so he had to leave, abandoning the three of us thinking, believing, we were in the safest place to be right now.
But what if someone was in there right now, waiting for us to open that door just to kill us on the spot? What if whoever was in there were the ones who triggered the alarm? What If I'm just going completely crazy right now. I stop on the last step and take another deep slow breath to recollect my thoughts. All this fear was making me go insane.
The red hues of the alarm lights were beginning to fade the further in we got, and the pressing danger ebbed slowly from my veins. We reach the metal door and clutching onto Gia we hold our breaths as Dom takes the knob and twists it open. I waited for someone to come rushing out, yelling, screaming as they come to attack us, but no one came. In fact, the room was completely empty, filled with monitors and laptops and three chairs.
All the monitors and laptops were on showing different areas and angles of outside the compound and yard surrounding it. My initial fear gone, I rush inside looking at the eight, no twelve, different screens.
"Talk about overload on watch duty." Gia states while she stares at one screen.
"Can never be too careful. We may stand out as Giordano’s but at least we aren't stupid." Dom sits down into one of the chairs and immediately relaxes as he clenches his jaw in massive pain.
He pushed himself to hard and we barely went twenty feet from his room. The stairs must have taken their toll on his beat up body.
"Are you the exception to that then?" Gia smirks at him, getting a scowl.
I just shake my head at the two. "Look!" I gasp pointing at one of the monitors that instantly got both of their attention.
"Who the hell are they and what the fuck are they doing here?" Domenico becomes on guard in an instant.
I could tell he was already setting himself up to be in fight mode. I take a closer look at his condition. He looked worse for wear that's for sure. His face was pale, sweat beading on his forehead. I wouldn’t be surprised that all it would take was for one punch to bring him down. He was in no state to defend us if needed. He would be more of a hindrance than actual help which means Gia and I will have to defend this place and Domenico with it.
"Those are my brother’s men." Gia whispers in fear.
I swing my head over to her afraid I heard what I think I did. "Are you sure?" I quickly asked needing confirmation that she wasn’t mistaken.
She slowly nods her head. “Yeah, I'm sure." She then points to a stout man that looked meaner than the other two standing next to him. “That right there is Hugo. He’s always following my old man like his damn lap dog." She then looks to me as blood had nearly drained from her face. “He’s not a very nice man."
It was a long pause before Dom finally spoke. "A little convenient they showed up finding this hideout when no one else could on the same night you showed up don't you think?” He suddenly spats out making me tense.
Gia also tenses up at his tone. "I told you; I don't want anything to do with any of them ever again. I wasn’t lying about anything I told you.” She states defensively.
“And I told you; it’s going to be really hard for me to trust anything you say. This here.” He points at the monitors. “Isn’t really helping you with convincing me otherwise.”
“That’s enough, both of you. It doesn’t matter at this point. They’re here and we need to figure out what to do.” I practically snap.
This was the last thing any of us needing to deal with. I knew that Gia didn’t bring these men here, but I also knew after everything he’s been through Domenico wasn’t just going to start taking people’s words at heart. No matter who they were.
"How could you say it doesn’t matter? Of course it matters! She could be backstabbing us right now while we have our guard down!" Dom states heatedly, staring daggers at Gia.
"Oh how peachy coming from you! You were willing to marry the enemy but ended up kidnapping the wrong girl! You're the reason you're all in the mess in the first place!" Gia snaps back angrily.
Dom’s nostrils flare in instant anger but I wasn't going to deal with this shit right now. So, huffing at the two of them, I head back to the stairs and go back into the room to find out what the hell we were going to do. I quietly head to the main door I knew the men were located at and double make sure it was locked and bolted. There was a mini peep hole to the side of the door panel. I carefully look into it. It wasn't the best view only showing me a shadowy blur of figures. I could see they were talking but I couldn’t hear anything, not even muffled sounds of their voices.
The overhead light wasn't the best source casting weird and unflattering angles. I go to back away frowning, wondering why they were out in the open like this. They weren't being very subtle, in fact, they weren't trying to be sneaky at all. Soon, realization hit, and I rush back to the stairs where Gia was trying to help Dom climb them, still bickering to one another. My heavy foot falls thud hard against the wooden beams. I nearly shove them both out of my way just as Gia exclaims, "Gabby, what's wrong-ah!”
I ignore the them both as I head back to the monitors searching each one, praying I was completely wrong on this. But then something catches my eye somewhere near the chained linked fence furthest from the compound.
"Shit."
