Chapter One Hundred Eight

Chapter One Hundred Eight
Enzo

“Any word from my father?” I wait for the reply on the other line.

“No, boss. We can’t seem to get a hold of him or the men that are with him. It’s like they all just vanished.”

My chest tightens at the possible implications of what that could mean. Was it possible they were caught when they drove off? What was happening to them now and what were they going through at this very moment? Not to mention, Nonno wasn’t a young man anymore. His heart wouldn’t be able to take a beating or tormenting or whatever was happening to cause it great stress and that only intensified my growing worry even more.

“Keep looking. No one gets any rest until they are found, is that understood?”

“Yes, boss.”

With that I hang up and look over to Charlie who was deep in concentration with his laptop. Samual was driving as we headed to the main hideout where we were to meet others to start hashing out a plan to stop Moretti.

“We should be there in about ten minutes.” Samual informs me as I look back out the window, trying hard to keep my mind from going into dark thoughts.

The fact that my father and grandfather couldn’t be found was getting to me. Not just them, but all the men that were supposed to meet up with them at the wrong location was also MIA. Where the hell did they all go? Were they all dead? Were they ambushed the same way that mse and Uncle Tone were back on the highway?

Clenching my fists tightly I couldn’t help but grind my teeth in agitation. The more I thought about it the more I was getting angrier and angrier. Moretti was a dead man. I’ll make sure of it.

“I found something.”

I snap my head to Charlie as he frowns deeply at the screen he was staring at. My heart pounds hard in my chest as I wait for him to spill what he found. Swirling the laptop to face me he says,

“Take a look at this. This is Cambridge Avenue.”

I watch a video of a traffic light that shows cars passing at the green, then my father’s car appears and drives through it. Okay, we already knew they were heading in that direction. I didn’t see his point. Then he clicks on a new video of another street.

“According to this traffic light your father’s car never made it past this street to the docks we thought Dom was located at.”

Showing the timeframe it was minutes after the last street. I frowned while watching the video, but the vehicle never came. Looking up to Charlie I was about to ask when he cuts me off.

“It could be two things. One, someone had figured out the decoy plan or two, another vehicle came into play and either stopped them or veered them in a different direction.”

He takes the laptop back and stares down at it some more. “My gut is telling me it’s option two due to the fact that we can’t get a hold of anyone and none of them have tried to get a hold of us.”

Sighing deeply, I lean forward and tell Samual, “Change of plans. Head for Cambridge Avenue.”

He frowns in the rearview mirror. “But we’re almost to the hideout-”

“My father and Nonno are more important right now. We need to find them.” I snap at him getting more and more irritated by the moment.

If something happened to either of them I was going to lose my shit.

It was the dead of night so hardly any vehicles were driving on the road. When we finally came to Cambridge there wasn’t a single car in sight, and it was eerily quiet.

“Pull over just past the light.” I tell Samual.

As soon as he stops I get out slowly, looking all around. There wasn’t anything out of the ordinary and there didn’t seem to be any kind of evidence that something was amiss here previously. I found it hard that my father would have gone willingly with someone who was forcing them off the road.

Both Samual and Charlie get out of the car.

“There’s a side street. We can check down there.” Charlie informs us.

There was actually two side streets before the next traffic light, the same light that showed in the video where my father’s car never passed. I walk to the street and peer down it. This was going to be a lot harder than I thought it would be. It was a neighborhood street that veered into different ones. At this point they could have gone in any direction.

“What do you want us to do?” Samual asks, looking just as pensive as I felt.

‘Call some of the men, men you know who will be best, to search this entire surrounding area. Tell them to look for any clues they can find, even the smallest tire mark on the road. Doesn’t matter how small or mundane the clue is, I want to know it.”

I then look to Charlie. “Think you could hack into any outside home surveillance cameras?”

“It’ll be a bit tricky, and it might take some time, but I think I can.”

“Then do it. I want to see if we can spot my father’s car.” Rubbing my forehead and wincing at the pain that was still there I turn back around and head for the car.

“For now we’ll head to the main hideout.”

“Hey, what’s that?” Samual suddenly states.

Looking back down where he was pointing I see something slightly shining that was thrown near the gutter. It could be anything, or it could be nothing. But all the same I walk towards it. As soon as I got a clear visual of what it was I nearly rushed to pick it right up.

“Is that…” Charlie asks rushing to my side as he peers down the chain in my hand.

“Yeah, it is. It’s my grandmother’s ring.”

And this was definitely a clear sign for me that Moretti definitely had my family. The only problem was where to find them. Swinging my head to Charlie, trying hard to control my breathing I clench out,

“If he harms them I’m going to make sure he’s brutally killed with an uneasy death.”

With that I walk briskly back to the waiting car.
