Chapter 38

Lila's POV:

"Excuse me?" Natalie asked with his interruption. He came closer.

"Sorry for intruding but I thought I should put that in."

"Yeah… And what do you mean he had all planned out?" I asked.

"Maybe he had it all figured out, we just have to put the pieces together."

"You might have a point." Natalie said, furrowing her brows.

"Keep thinking about it. Hopefully, we'll come up with something substantial," she said. "I'll take my leave now. Call me if anything comes up."

I watched her leave, and my gaze turned to Dean. He was staring at me. Feeling uncomfortable, I rubbed the back of my neck, avoiding his gaze.

"Lila…"

"I have to go. I'll see you around." I quickly said and rushed out of the place. I didn't think I was ready to talk to him just yet.

Chad and I soon got the chance to talk privately, and I relayed everything that had happened lately to him, not leaving out the minutes detail.

"Dean said CG might have had it all figured out, but we need help in piecing everything together and that's where the problem is. If only you were here to help us, you can't do it from here." I muttered despondently.

Chad smiled and held my hands.

"If there's one person who knows CG more than I do, it's Dean."

I looked up at him.

"What?"

"You heard me. Why don't you ask him to help you out?"

I sighed. "I don't know." I replied sincerely, "were really not on good terms."

"It wouldn't hurt to try."

"Okay… I'll do it."

"That's the spirit." He said and smiled. I managed one, still worried.

After a while, we all went home. We had dinner and one after the other, retired to our room. I couldn't sleep. I kept thinking about what Chad said about Dean helping me out. After a while ruminating, I finally got up from bed and asked for his help.

Searching for him all over the place, I found him in the studio room, headphones in his ears and eyes closed. I knocked and walked in.

"Hey." I greeted, sitting on one of the empty chairs.

"Hi… You aren't asleep yet?" He asked, removing his headphones.

"No, not yet," I said, and we lapsed into the silence. For want of a conversation, I turned to him.

"What song were you listening to?"

"CG's?"

"Oh… That's… Great," I muttered, looking ahead of me.

"Have you listened to his songs before?"

"Yes, but not all of it." I replied to him.

"Well, you should. They might help with clues. Here's my favorite." He said, passing me the headphones. I collected it and wore them, the melody flooding my ears.

"What's its name?" I asked.

"My Lyric." He replied, then tilted his head to the side. "Isn't that ironic, that's your name?"

I nodded and focused on the song, listening to it.

"Wow, this is amazing." I said after the song ended. "I wish I remember him and now and can't even see him." I said sadly.

"Don't worry… He'll always be with you," he assured me, and I nodded, looking at me. We said nothing for some time, but it was more comfortable that way.

After a while, Dean hums the song and then he stopped, snapping his fingers.

"That's it!" He suddenly said, his countenance changing. I glanced at him quizzically.

"That's what?" I asked.

He looked at me, his eyes shining.

"Don't you see? Maybe this album named after you, might help us out!"

"What now?" I asked again, confused.

He struggled to explain.

"CG himself said this song was his favorite because it talked about someone really special to him, which is you, of course. Maybe if we check the lyrics, we might find some clues."

It was making sense to me. Dean quickly scrambled for a pen and paper, and he began jotting things down. Once he was through, he stopped and peered at him.

"Here, here it says, 'have placed my mark on you so you'll never be lost.' He's probably talking about the incision behind your ears. And here it says, 'you're the reason I'm fucked up.' Maybe he's talking about the risks he'll have to take to protect you."

"Oh my God!" I exclaimed. "We have to tell this to Natalie." I said, bringing out my phone. I called her up and quickly narrated all that we have discovered to her.

"This is amazing! You guys are such geniuses!" she exclaimed through the phone, obviously elated. It was a superb feeling.

"But wait…" I quickly said. "With all of this, how are we going to use it? Remember we promised Nikita we wouldn't investigate any further." I reminded everyone.

Silence descended for a while until Dean spoke up.

"I have an idea… But I don't know if you'll be up for it." He began.

"You do?" I asked. He nodded.

"Well then, let's hear it,"
