Chapter 37

Zoey's POV:

I gasped and moved backwards, unsure of what to do. He struggled a bit, but finally raised himself, staring at me fully now.

"Who are you and where am I?" He asked, his voice hoarse.

"Uh…I'm Zoey, Zoey Martinez, Lila's friend, and you're in the hospital."

"Hospital? What am I doing here?"

"You got into an accident, remember?"

His eyes widened at me saying that.

"Oh… That." Looking around, he asked. "What about the rest?"

"Um, I came early. It's not visiting hours yet so they aren't around yet."

"Okay. I'd introduce myself but you already know my name."

"Of course, who doesn't? Excuse me, I'll go call one of the doctors." I said, and he nodded, rubbing his forehead. I smiled to myself before walking out of the room, on my way to call one of the doctors. I'll call the rest after that.

Lila's POV:

I was still in shock. I wasn't comprehending anything. Tessa had a surprised look on her face.

"A-are you sure about this." I asked.

"Definitely."

I turned to my room. She shrugged.

"But… Mom, you said you recognized him. Where did you meet?"

"Yes, I do. He was the one who took you away from me and subsequently rescued me. But he didn't bring you back."

Then he deliberately separated me from my mom. The question is…

"Why?"

"I don't know."

All of it was already getting too much. I stood up, heaving a sigh.

"We have to go now. We'll check on you later."

"Wait… You will not call the cops on me, are you? I did not know about this and besides, the person in question is dead."

"No, we're not," I replied, shaking my head. "But we're going to have to tell someone. You're all safe."

"Okay." She replied, and I saw her breath out.

"Bye Tessa," I said and walked out of the house, into car. None of us said anything to each other as we sat. We were all lost in thoughts.

My phone rang, jolting me out of mine. I brought it out from my bag and saw the caller, Zoey. I picked it up.

"Hello…" I said, but she cut me off.

"Come to the hospital. Chad's awake." And just like that, she cut the call.

"Who was that?" My mom asked me.

"It's Zoey… She said I should come to the hospital. Chad's awake."

"Chad's awake? Thanks goodness!"

I turned to the driver.

"Sir, please take us to the hospital."

"Okay, Miss…" He replied and made a turn, heading to the hospital.

We arrived at the hospital and we met all on the Sparks, including Natalie. I quickly hurried over to his ward and hugged him instantly.

"Chad! You're awake. Finally." I said, my hands still wrapped around him.

"Hey cousin," he greeted churlishly. I grinned.

Pulling away, I sat down on one of the empty chairs.

"Dean told me you weren't home. Where did you go?"

"I went to see Tessa, my sister."

"Sister?"

"She's my guardian's daughter…" I explained.

"Oh…"

"So how long have you been awake?"

"Not so long."

"I'm so happy to see you. I was terrified when you got hurt. I thought you'd never wake up."

He chuckled heartily.

"But I'm here aren't I, told you I'm not leaving you."

"Yes, you did," I affirmed, grinning.

I glanced around and saw Natalie. I quickly faced Chad.

"Um Chad? Excuse me, I have to see Natalie. There's something we need to talk about," I told him and he nodded. I smiled and walked out of his ward, calling Natalie. She stopped and walked towards me.

"Hey Lyric, how are you?"

"I'm good. I wanted to tell you something."

"Oh… Okay. I'm all ears."

I took in a deep breath and began narrating all that Mrs. Stella told us. Natalie's eyes widened with shock when I was through.

"What!? That's massive!" she exclaimed. "With that, we can finally nail Nikita. What a great discovery."

"We can!?" I asked her hopefully.

"Uh… Yes, but the problem now is that this man is dead. The judge could out rule that. If only he were alive."

"That's true. I guess he won't be of much use to us then."

"Don't say that, Lyric. We still have Tessa, don't we? That could work."

"Yeah… But something tells me my dad knew what Nikita had planned out. The question is, why did he let happen?"

"Maybe he already had it all figured out," a voice said and turned behind me. It was Dean.

What's he doing here?
