Chapter 67

Tobias’ POV

Alex calls me as we were heading to the dungeon; “Hey Shithead” “Fuckface; did Nath get the tablet?” he asks. “Yes; we are kind of in the middle of something. There was a rogue attack; you can call Nath directly if you want more details or I can call you back later” I tell him.

“I’ll call Nath; but you can call me back when you get the chance. I want to know what’s going on” he tells me. “Well, you shouldn’t have gotten yourself killed” I snicker at him.

“I’ve got to go” I say and hang up the phone.

Tim and I head into the dungeon area. There is a lion stalking behind the bars. He’s black mane is all mattered and he looks as though Tyler can snap him in half; like a twig. He bangs on the bars.

“Mason; they are made of silver; you will burn yourself if you try to get out” I tell him. He stares at us in shock; probably because we know his name. “Can we speak with your human” Tim asks him. He shifts and a dark-haired man looks back at me. “My human doesn’t want to speak with you; Alpha’s” he spits.

“What if I come in and speak with him; will that be, ok?” I ask Mason. “If you come in here; I will rip you apart” he snarls back at me. “Please; two healthy Alpha brothers against one mangy, malnourished lion. You wouldn’t stand a chance” Tim laughs at him; playing bad cop. I put my hand on Tim’s shoulder; “please Mason; I just want to talk. What is your human’s name?” I ask him “Paxton; his name is Paxton. You can come in; you stay out” he says to us.

I call for the guard to open the cell door and I walk in; Tim stands in the doorway. “Mason; I need to speak with Paxton please.” “You can speak to me” he yells. “We don’t want to speak to you, we want to speak with Paxton” Tim scoffs at him.

He closes his eyes; when he opens them, they have changed from gold to blue. “Paxton?” “You wanted to speak with me; so, speak” he growls at me. “My name is Toby; I need to ask you a few questions” I say to him. “I don’t know anything” he says. I slowly take a step closer to him “I understand; can I ask you something though?” I say taking another step closer.

“That’s close enough” he says; backing himself towards Tim. “You sound scared Paxton; I’m not going to hurt you” I tell him, taking another step. “What do you want from me. I told you I don’t know anything” Tim jabs him with the needle and I grab his arms. “You said you weren’t going to hurt me” he yelled.

“We didn’t; Paxton” I say to him. “What have you done to Mason” he shouts. “We caged him; so, we can talk with you. Beatrice is upstairs, would you like to see her?” Tim says. Paxton eyes grow wide; “you have Zuri?” “No; we have Beatrice” I correct him.

“I don’t believe you” he yells at me. “Paxton; I don’t want to keep you in the dungeon. Will you come with us to see Bea?” I ask him. He nods his head and I usher him out of the cell.

I show him a pair of handcuffs; “I am going to have to put this around your wrists before we go outside, Paxton. Can I do that please?” “Why do you need to put me in handcuffs?” he screams. “Precautionary” Tim says; “I give you my word we will take them off again as soon as we get to Beatrice” I add.

He nods his head again and I put the handcuffs on him. We usher him to the safehouse and into the common room. “Mason” Beatrice screams. “I’m Paxton; they said they caged Mason” he says to her. Bea’s let’s out a sigh of relief. “Thank you” she says to Tim and I. “As promised” I say; releasing the handcuffs. Andre comes into the common room; Paxton let’s out a growl.

“This is one of my enforcers; Paxton. He is here to apologise for hurting you” Tim informs, “yeah; sorry about that. I can’t control Angelo sometimes” Andre tells him. “I can’t control Mason; all the time” he says back.

“Paxton; I am Doctor Spencer. Like I told Beatrice; you will need to stay here in this safehouse for a while. We will keep Mason caged up but you may experience some withdrawal symptoms of headaches, sweating and pain. I can only give you human pain killers and they may not be able to stop all the symptoms. Mason will experience hallucinations and he may scream in your head a bit.”

“It won’t kill him; will it” he asks Sophia. “No and I can’t give him anything to counteract the effects of the drugs; except keep him caged up until they leave his system” she tells him.

“I have to go make a phone call, Paxton; we would like you to talk to Doc Bushell as well. He is here to help you and Bea” I say to him. “Mason was like a little brother to Zuri; she tried to keep him out of harm’s way. I will make sure Paxton gets help too” Bea says to us. “Can I meet your friend, Mum?” Rhiannon asks. Beatrice smiles at her. “Paxton; this is my daughter, Rhiannon” “It’s nice to meet you Paxton” she says; giving her a half smile.

I head out the door and up to my room. I pull my phone out and call Alex.

“Hey; sorry about before. We had to save a drug addict” I say to him. “All good; what happened?”

“There was a rogue attack and Andre knocked a young lion out. They took him to the dungeon. We caught the addict trying to steal too. It happened to be Samantha’s sister; Beatrice. We caged her lioness, Zuri. Bea told us the lion we caught was another addict” I inform him.

“Well; that’s two down. Thousands more to go” he chuckles through the receiver.

“Did you get hold of Nath?” I asked him. “Yeah; this Richard sounds like he is behind a lot of the drug dealings around there.” “I know; I’m curious though” I tell him.

“Curious about what?” he asks. “Everything is pointing to one person. Normally with something like this; there has to be more to it. I can’t see how one man can be behind all the drugs; the attacks, everything. He must have help or he is just involved and the person we are searching for, is someone else entirely” I say to him. “I was thinking the same. Let’s see what mum can find and we can go from there” he tells me.

“Yeah. Oh, Bea said she heard about you and Jessi and sends on her condolences” I laugh at him. “Tell her thanks” he snickers back. “I already did.”
