Chapter 68

Cynthia’s POV

This can’t be right. I made three different tests from the one tablet and they are all coming back with the same result. Multi vitamin tablet. He sold Nathanial a placebo.

Doctor Spencer, Bronson and Raoul come through the door. I look at them, with my lips pursed; “Nath is going to have to go back to the bar; the sooner the better” I tell them.

They look at me confused; “he sold Nathanial a multi vitamin tablet; a placebo. He will have to go pick a fight with this, Danny” I frown. The look of frustration on their faces was seeping through; “do you think they know; we are on to them?” Sophia asks. “No; I think this Danny was looking at making a quick buck from Nath; in his despair” Raoul notes.

“I’ll mind link Adrian, Nath and Toby” I say to them. *“Nath; Danny sold you a placebo; you will need to go back to the bar.”*

The three of them come into my room. “Are you sure?” Nathanial asks me; I give him my mummy look, he relinquishes; “Ok; I’ll go back. I’m unstable remember. Danny won’t be making the same mistake again” he tells me. “I’ll go with you this time” Toby says. “You will both have to stay out of sight” Nath informs them; “come and get me, when I mind link you.” “I’ll have my Alpha Aura ready and waiting” Toby smirks at him.

The three of them head out the door; I hope he knows what he is doing. I’ve already lost Zach and we lost Jessi for four years. I can’t lose him too.

Nathanial’s POV

I didn’t think I would be going back to this bar for a while. That asshole; I will call his bluff, selling me a placebo. But I can’t let him know, I know what it is. **“Tell him it had no effect on us and what’s his deal?”** Malo says to me. **“That’s good; I can do that.”**

“What are you going to do?” Toby asks me. “Malo just gave me an idea; I’m going to throw him against the wall and ask him what he is playing at? The pill had no effect. It didn’t make me forget anything.” “Not a bad plan” Adrian says.

“If it doesn’t work; release him and go. We will try a different bar” Toby says to me. I nod my head as we get to the edge of the territory and walk alone towards the dingy building.

I open the door and Steven looks my way, “back again, Nathanial?” he says with a smile. I scan the room and see Danny over on a bar stool in the corner. I march over to him; grabbing him off his stool and pinning him up against the wall. “WHAT IS YOUR FUCKING DEAL, ASSHOLE? THAT PILL YOU GAVE ME HAD NO EFFECT ON ME. YOU SAID IT WILL MAKE ME FORGET. WELL, IT DIDN’T” I scream at him.

“Nathanial; Can I call you Nath? Let Danny go” Steve says to me in a calm voice. I turn my head and glare at him; still pinning Danny to the wall. “Are you in on his game too; rob me of $50 because I..I…” I let go of Danny and move to a table and put my face in my hands.

Steven comes over to me with a glass of bourbon. “Here; you need this” he says placing the glass in front of me. I take a sip out of the glass and he walks behind the bar.

Danny comes over and takes a seat next to me; “I’m sorry Nathanial; the warlock told us of outsiders coming in. He doesn’t trust you and I figured I can make a quick buck. I didn't mean to deceive youv but you can’t blame a bear for trying” he laughs at me.

I growl; “Who is this warlock? Maybe he can sell me some of that stuff you were telling me about. I lost my sister and one of our Alphas in one night. I just want to forget about it and go home; but they won’t let me. Leader Bronson says we need to stay and defend his territory from the rogue attacks.” I yell at him, with more tears escaping my eyes.

“I don’t know his name; he won’t disclose it. He comes out of the territory you are in from time to time to top me up with more Lace. I will give you the Lace; but you will have to give me the remaining fee” he smiles at me. I pull my wallet out of my pocket and grab $100 out. He gives me a different pill and I stare at it.

“It’s the real deal, this time” he says. I pick up my bourbon and down the tablet again and put my wallet back in my pocket.

“Better?” he says to me. I give him a smile. *“Come and get me”* I mind link Adrian and Tobias.

They walk through the door; “NATHANIAL” Toby booms, my smile drops, with a snarl. **“My turn;”** Malo laughs, I let him come forward and he puts our arm around Danny and smiles “Toby; Adrian, hey!! Come and meet my friend Danny” he chimes, patting Danny on the chest.

“See Toby; we told you he wasn’t coping” Adrian says to him. “Malo, get your ass back to the territory; NOW!” Toby screams, his Alpha Aura dominating the building. Malo drops our head “Yes, Alpha” he answers as we scurry out the door. I hear Toby behind me ask Steven, “How much does he ow you?” “It’s on the house” Steven says back to him and they follow me out of the bar.

I get to the edge of the territory and can see Richard out the corner of my eye; *“We’re being watched”* I say to Adrian and Toby; who are a few paces behind me. Danny didn’t waste any time telling the resident warlock. I stumble around; tripping over my feet and fall down onto the ground. I discreetly pull the tablet out of my pocket; Toby grabs my hand and I place it into his palm.

“Let’s get you back” he says to me; pulling me off the ground, by my arm. “Let go of me” I yell; yanking my arm away from him. I stumble off as quickly as I could. They both come either side of me; pinning me under my arms. Malo comes forward again; “Toby; Ads, hi” he says loudly. “Malo; what have you taken?” Toby asks him. “Nothing” Malo says laughing uncontrollably.

“Let’s get him back to the safehouse” Adrian says. Malo laughs as they hold him; only letting go when we get back inside the safehouse. “That was fun” I laugh coming back to the forefront again. Toby pulls the pill out of his pocket; “Is this the real tablet this time?” he asks; putting the pill between his thumb and finger and holds it up to the light to look at it. “I believe so; I hope they bought Malo being high” **“I can act”** he huffs.

Bronson and Samantha come down the stairs; “It’s definitely Richard selling the drugs. Danny said the warlock lives on this territory and I told him we were here to help defend from rogue attacks. He has been told the information; he was watching us come back into the territory. It was lucky Toby and Ads were a few paces behind me” I tell everyone.

Samantha looks at me; “we may have to get Jessi back here. I was just talking to dad; Richard is starting to ask why we haven’t gone after her. He told them; you are still in mourning. Now he knows you have been given some Lace; we might have to bring her back sooner” she says. “I can do it, in her place” we look over at the stairs. Cathy is standing there.

“No” Adrian snarls. “He only saw them take someone who looks like Nath; I look like Nath. He won’t pick the size difference. It was at night and the bunkers were a fair distance from the redwood trees” she announces. “Still, No” Adrian shouts.

“Toby?” Samantha asks our Alpha for the final decision. “Sorry Ads, she has a point. It’s the best we’ve got at the moment. Where can we get them to drop her off?” he asks Bronson “Nonna’s place; it’s near the River Clan border” Rebecca says walking over to us. “Can you have a meeting in your office with Richard, Greg and Sharon; Dad? We can get Francesca to bring her into you” Samantha asks him.

“I suppose so. I’ll get it sorted for tomorrow” he says back to us.
