Chapter 143 Extremely Furious
"Alright, Mom, you take care too!" I frowned and asked, "What about Nolan and Ella? Aren't they looking after Grandpa Hayden?"
"Ella did call to check if your grandpa woke up. But whether he wakes up or not, Preston's murder is a fact, and he's almost certainly facing the death penalty," Isabella said, then added, "Your grandpa had a company seal and some really expensive antiques, all of which Preston took. The company was already in trouble, and now he took the seal too. Who knows what he's planning?"
I didn't get it either. Having the chairman's seal didn't mean Preston could act like the chairman.
"Even though Ryder isn't very capable, it's lucky Nolan has two sons. Otherwise..." Isabella sighed.
"Isabella, do you think Preston might have gotten into gambling?" I suddenly thought of something and asked.
"I don't know, but be careful. We don't know where Preston is now, and I'm afraid he hasn't left the city. Sunshine Bay Village is relatively safe, but stay home and don't wander around places like Building Seven or the underground parking lot alone, okay?"
"Okay, Mom." After hanging up, I canceled my plans to go out. I had originally wanted to visit Hayden at the hospital, but I decided to stay home instead.
The fridge had enough food, and I could always order takeout.
I checked the company's group chat, received work emails, and started working on new designs.
I didn't know how much time had passed when I suddenly got a call from Sophia.
"Did you see today's news? The Smith Group used to have James as the CEO, what bad luck. Now he definitely can't solve the problem," Sophia said with a hint of schadenfreude in her voice.
"Yeah, I wonder if James' real estate will be auctioned off. Maybe I can get a good deal," I said, thinking that if his assets were auctioned, buying them wouldn't cause too much trouble.
After all, James would be in prison for the next few years. If I bought his property at a low price, I could check it out, take anything valuable, add some new items, clean it up, and sell it to someone powerful once the dust settled.
"I'd love to get a good deal too, but I don't have that much money," Sophia said.
I replied, "I remember he has a house that's over 900 square feet in a good location. If it's auctioned, it should be much cheaper. I think around a million dollars could get it. How about I lend you some money?"
Sophia didn't have a house yet, and this was a great opportunity. I wanted to help her.
"Sure! If I had known about this opportunity, I would have reported James for tax evasion myself. Once it's proven, I could get a percentage of the recovered taxes," Sophia said, and I suddenly remembered what Daniel had said about how he made money.
He mingled in this circle, and although he was now on the fringes, he still knew many people in it.
He could get insider information, and if he reported tax evasion internally, once verified, he could get a percentage of the recovered taxes.
As long as Daniel and his colleagues kept quiet, no one would know he was the one who reported it.
"The Smith Group and the Taylor Group are public companies with huge tax amounts. I wonder who reported them. How much money would that be? Just thinking about it makes me jealous!" Sophia said, her voice trembling with envy.
"How do you know it was reported and not something the IRS found out on their own?" I was puzzled. Hadn't the IRS already been investigating?
"Someone reported it. Haven't you heard any insider news in the circle? My crush told me that someone anonymously reported James for tax evasion. Because James had a large amount of tax evasion linked to the Taylor Group, it implicated the Taylor Group in the investigation," Sophia said.
I frowned. So, was it possible that James somehow found out my parents' death wasn't an accident, used this information to make a deal with the killer, a key figure in the Taylor Group, and got a large sum of money, but didn't pay taxes on it?
So, when James was reported for tax evasion, the IRS investigation uncovered this, and then they found significant tax evasion in the Taylor Group too?
James claimed to love me, but he didn't seek revenge for my parents' death. Instead, he hid this information and used it for his gain.
Thinking of this, I felt extremely furious.
I must find time to visit James in prison. Even if I couldn't learn the truth, I could at least curse him out.
"Emily, why aren't you saying anything? Are you thinking that even God is helping you punish that jerk James? You must be thrilled!"
