Chapter 132 I Need to Protect the Surveillance
I got up, my eyes darting around, trying to spot any hidden cameras.
This was the living room, not exactly a private spot, so Hayden might've set up some surveillance here.
I pulled out my phone, opened an app that detects hidden cameras, and started scanning.
A few spots lit up with signals, and I let out a sigh of relief.
As long as the cops got here before Ella, I could point out where the cameras were.
The family doctor showed up fast. He checked Hayden and said, "He's got a head injury and is talking nonsense. There might be internal bleeding. I'll bandage him up, but he needs to get to the hospital ASAP."
"Got it," Isabella told the security guards to grab a stretcher and then went to get her car.
Not sure when the ambulance would arrive, we followed the doctor's advice and moved Hayden to the car to head down the mountain first.
Isabella handed me her phone and asked me to call the number she had just dialed for the ambulance, letting them know we were on our way to the hospital and to remember her car's make, color, and license plate.
We met the ambulance at the bottom of the mountain, stopped, and helped transfer Hayden to the medical staff.
I checked the time on my phone; it was almost rush hour. The ambulance would be faster to get to the hospital.
Both Isabella and I wanted to ride in the ambulance, but the family doctor knew Hayden's condition better, so Isabella let me get in while she followed in her car.
Hayden kept calling my dad's name. I held his hand and suddenly asked, "What happened to Jasper? Do you know who killed him?"
"Jasper, I'm sorry," Hayden said out of nowhere.
I teared up instantly. Hayden knew who killed my dad.
I knew he wouldn't hurt my dad, but I was right; the one who did must be a Taylor.
"What about Victoria Gonzalez?" I asked.
Hayden didn't respond, maybe not remembering my mom's name.
He kept repeating, "Jasper, I'm sorry."
"The Taylor family...the Taylor family is finished," he murmured.
The Taylor family still had some time before they were done for. It seemed Hayden had already seen this coming.
"Ms. Johnson, who is Jasper? Why does Mr. Taylor keep calling his name? Maybe bringing him here would help," the doctor asked me.
I cried and couldn't help but laugh. "Jasper is my dad. He's already dead."
The car went quiet. I didn't really care about them. The family doctor was an outsider, and Isabella wasn't here. I just wanted to figure out why Hayden was calling my dad's name while he was out of it.
"Dr. Harris, have you checked on the butler? He..." I suddenly remembered and asked the family doctor, Samuel Harris.
"Ryan Martin is already dead. Didn't you call the cops? They'll handle it when they get here." Samuel sighed and continued, "What happened to these two people?"
I didn't know either, but it had to be Preston.
At the hospital, we headed straight to the emergency room. Isabella and I waited outside, and soon the police showed up.
I said, "Is anyone keeping an eye on the villa over the mountain? Listen, there are surveillance cameras there, and they need to be secured quickly! If the footage gets destroyed, this time..."
"It's you again? That unlucky Ms. Johnson." A cop recognized me. I nodded helplessly and said, "If the footage gets destroyed again, I might be in trouble."
"Don't say that!" Isabella tugged at my sleeve.
"Right, the killer can't be a woman. I checked Ryan's wounds; the killer used a single blow with a lot of force. Based on the position and shape of the wound, the killer struck from above. So, the killer must be taller than Ryan, and Ms. Johnson's height doesn't match," Samuel, sitting nearby, added. He was nearly fifty, highly skilled, and that's why Hayden hired him as the family doctor, living in the building behind Crystal Haven Estate.
I breathed a sigh of relief, thinking no one should be able to frame me.
"Please, tell us what you know and describe the scene," the cop said.
I looked at Isabella and decided to speak first.
I started from when I agreed to come see Hayden at Ella's request, to being scared away by Preston, the shared electric scooter running out of power, and calling Isabella to pick me up.
I even took out my phone to show them the time I finished using the shared electric scooter and the time I called Isabella, which all matched up.
"Why did you suddenly think something might be wrong at Crystal Haven Estate?" the cop asked.
I replied, "Because I suddenly remembered that what Preston said to me was very strange, like he was trying to get rid of me. My grandfather was asleep, and I was afraid Preston had some ulterior motive. If he woke up and had a conflict with him..."
"Preston has become increasingly unreliable in recent years. Hayden is so old, he can't take any more stress," Isabella added.
