Chapter 786 Men Are All Unreliable
Chapter 786 Men Are All Unreliable
"Juniper! I'm not pestering you!"
Seeing Juniper about to leave, Samuel stopped her in time.
"Even if you're mad at me, you have to think about the baby!"
He pleaded earnestly, racking his brains to make her stay: "Your condition hasn't stabilized yet. Come back with me to rest for a couple days. Once you're okay, you can leave, and I won't stop you from going anywhere!"
With no other options, Samuel could only try to buy time.
He figured he'd get Juniper back home first, then use that time to investigate whether Rainey's pregnancy had anything to do with him.
"You talk a good game!"
Juniper let out a scornful laugh.
Knowing Samuel as she did, once she returned to that villa, he'd definitely find ways to make excuses and come up with all sorts of reasons to keep her from leaving.
"No thanks. I can rest at my own place. With my parents taking care of me, I don't need you worrying about it!"
Juniper's tone remained unyielding, as if the two of them had reached a point of no compromise.
Samuel was at his wit's end, completely out of ideas for dealing with Juniper's stubbornness.
Watching her walk toward the elevator, Samuel was about to give up, but after thinking it over, he chased after her again.
The two came out of the elevator together. Juniper deliberately ignored him and left the hospital quickly.
Standing by the road, she saw a taxi approaching and was about to flag it down when Samuel's car blocked her view.
Juniper became furious and blurted out angrily: "Don't block the road. Please keep your car away from me."
But Samuel wouldn't budge. He opened the passenger door and pleaded: "Honey, get in the car first. If you don't want to go back with me, I can take you to your parents' place."
He had his own plan—get Juniper in the car first, then figure things out.
"Thanks, but I can get my own taxi!"
However, Juniper wasn't having it. She walked around his annoying car, wanting to hail the next taxi.
But Samuel was determined. He simply turned off the engine, got out, and stayed by Juniper's side.
This move confused Juniper. She asked suspiciously: "What trick are you pulling now? Acting like a stalker? Like a clingy puppy?"
Samuel said nothing, using his tall frame to block Juniper's attempts to wave down a cab.
After missing several taxis in a row, Juniper completely lost her patience.
Since Samuel was now being impossible, she didn't want to argue endlessly anymore and just started walking on the sidewalk.
Samuel held his car keys and continued following alongside her at a leisurely pace.
After walking a short distance, Juniper couldn't stand it anymore and stopped to try driving him away again.
"Mr. Hall, please leave me alone! I'm begging you!"
Juniper made a pleading gesture, hands clasped in front of her chest, hoping he'd stop pestering her.
But Samuel was set on winning Juniper back and kept negotiating: "I can leave you alone, as long as you get in my car and let me give you a ride."
If it was just spending some time with Samuel in the car, Juniper could consider it.
With this thought, Juniper asked tentatively: "Really? You're just taking me home? You're not lying to me, right?"
"Of course I'm not lying. Don't you trust my character?" Samuel nodded confidently.
In the past, Juniper wouldn't have thought twice about it.
But the experiences of the past few days taught her a truth: men are basically unreliable.
Rainey's pregnancy haunted Juniper, especially regarding Samuel—she was starting to doubt this man's character.
"Stop it. Do you even deserve to talk to me about character now?"
Juniper laughed mockingly.
After saying this, she continued walking along the sidewalk.
But as she walked, she was surprised to find Samuel had disappeared.
On the surface, Juniper couldn't forgive Samuel, but deep down she still felt a tiny bit reluctant to let go.
Had that last comment hurt Samuel's pride?
Juniper wondered to herself and suddenly stopped.
She stood still for a few seconds. When Samuel still hadn't caught up, she couldn't help but look back.
The next moment, Juniper saw Samuel heading in the opposite direction, walking fast—in just a minute, he'd gone quite far.
He really left...
Juniper felt strangely disappointed.
But thinking about the mess Samuel had gotten into with Rainey behind her back, Juniper wasn't about to chase after him. She continued strolling along the straight sidewalk.
Soon, Juniper reached an intersection.
The light had just turned red, so she stood at the crosswalk waiting patiently.
"Juniper, get in the car!"
Just as the light was flashing, Samuel's gentle voice came from a car behind her.
Turns out Samuel had just gone back to get his car!
Instantly, Juniper felt like she'd been played.
Sure enough, her thoughts were too simple—she'd actually worried that her offhand comment had hurt him.
A surge of anger stirred Juniper's emotions. She was about to refuse outright when Samuel's voice reached her ears again.
"Juniper, trust me just this once!"
Samuel opened the car door while making a promise: "If I tell even half a lie, you can call the police anytime."
Hearing Samuel's earnest tone, Juniper's resolve finally wavered.
Although she wanted to end things with Samuel, accepting one ride really wasn't a big deal.
"Fine, I hope you keep your word."
Juniper's face was serious as she got in the car and fastened her seatbelt.
Finally getting Juniper in the car, Samuel was secretly delighted.
"Hold on!"
He reminded her calmly and pressed the gas pedal to cross the street.
They didn't talk much along the way. Juniper had no desire to chat and spent most of the time looking at the street scenes outside the window.
"Almost there."
Samuel reminded her, then asked with concern: "Should I come upstairs with you? So your parents don't get the wrong idea."
Juniper paused at his words.
She had to admit, Samuel was thoughtful and considerate.
Actually, she hadn't figured out yet whether to tell her parents about their impending separation.
She was pregnant now, and delivery was coming soon.
If her parents heard about her breakup with Samuel now, they'd definitely worry about their only daughter.
Juniper was sensible and didn't want to add to their troubles.
"Okay, help me keep up appearances with them."
Juniper agreed to Samuel's suggestion, adding: "I'll find an apartment soon. Once I've rented one, I'll move out."
According to Juniper's plan, she'd keep it from her parents for now and decide what to do after the baby was born.
"Sure, I'll do my best to help smooth things over."
Samuel responded cooperatively.
Half an hour later, the car slowly entered an old residential complex.
Soon they arrived at the door.
Juniper knocked gently and waited, but heard no response from inside.
Samuel glanced over and knocked twice as well.
"Looks like they're not home."
Samuel said quietly, suggesting Juniper call to ask.
The call went through. After chatting with her parents for a bit, Juniper learned they'd spontaneously decided to spend the weekend in a neighboring city.
Of course, Ramon and Madeline weren't just going to relax—they wanted to pray for blessings for their soon-to-be-born grandchild.
Learning they'd be back in a couple days, Juniper decided to stay at the house for now.
