Chapter 83

Chapter 83
Domenico POV:

I couldn’t believe it. I think I was in shock. That people actually go into shock. I’ve never been in shock. They were putting the handcuffs on me and taking me out of the courtroom. I tried to turn and look at my daughter one last time, but the bailiff grabbed me by the back of my neck and forced me forward.

Guilty

Guilty

Guilty

They had found me guilty on all charges, which was ridiculous. I mean, come on, yeah sure, I couldn’t get away from some of them, but I was pretty good at covering my tracks. This was all because they were vindictive, tiny little worms, trying to overthrow the king.

I’ll I’ll get out. I’ll find a way. I’ll hire better lawyers. I’ll bribe the next judge. I’ll kill a senator if I have to.  But I was getting out one way or another.

I was forced backed into a cell to sitting there, thinking about how I could best take care of that fucking greasy weasel. He had taken my daughter and now my freedom. I should’ve killed him a long time ago. It was too fun playing the game against a worthy opponent, and now I was paying the price. I’ll admit it, I had underestimated him.

Perhaps…

Perhaps it wasn’t him I underestimated. If I knew anything, it was that my daughter was capable of this capable of seeing me off. In fact, she probably put me 6 feet under her if it meant that she could have her happy ending. That was one thing her mother never could do.

Vanessa, try as she might, she still loved me. She didn’t. She would’ve found a way to get rid of me. There was only one way, and she knew how to get Guilia back.

Guilia, if I had been a smarter man, I wouldn’t have put her away. She could be out right now doing damage, getting revenge for me, and instead I’d locked her up, granted, she probably gave them some of the evidence that put me in prison. Maybe I was right to lock her up, I guess I’ll never know.

They left me with my what-ifs and my regrets and that cell for what felt like an eternity. Finally, dragging me out and putting me in an armored vehicle.

Now that was smart, you put me in a regular old prison bus. I could just start a riot then I’d walk away and I come back and I take down every last one of these motherfuckers who put me here in the first place.

I sat there, staring at the cops who had their guns drawn and her precious little vests on, as if that could save them. Granted, I have nothing to shoot them with, so what was I talking about?

I laughed to myself. Was that all I was now, a man of empty threats, unable to do any real damage? Had they really beaten me? Was that possible?

I had to have a few more favors. I could call in a few favors I still had tricks up my sleeve. There had to be something that I could do. I wasn’t ready to be done. This was too much fun.

I laughed to myself, chuckling as they shoved me against the wall of the car, and sitting down, laughing loudly as I thought of it. Beaten by my own family, she had won.

I hadn’t taken her seriously, I always thought that she would come to her senses and return to me. There seems to be no other logical option, but that was because I knew the outcome. I would find a way to get to her. I would find a way to make her heart. She had done the unthinkable to me, her father.

I cackled to myself at how proud I was that she had pulled the trigger and actually succeeded in locking me up. Any father would be proud of their child if they achieved their goals, but she made one fatal flaw. She wanted her happily ever after, she should’ve killed me. I’d come back somehow, someway, and I’d finish what I started.

The card jolted to life and rolled forward, jostling us inside as it made its way towards my prison.

I was concocting a plan to escape once I got to the prison, find a guard that I could bribe, maybe start a riot or two get somebody to bring me things that I could use to make my escape. I still had a few lackeys who lived in fear that I would return. Perhaps they were shaken by this, but they shouldn’t be.

I didn’t even notice that we had stopped abruptly, lost in my thoughts of how I could get out of here and what I would do when I did. What pulled me from my plans was the sound of gunfire, and the two cops in front of me were standing at attention and pointing their guns at the entrance of the vehicle.

I see…

Turns out I still did have a few friends out there. A broad smile crept across my face as I waited. I didn’t know who was on the other side of that thing, but I knew they were not going to hurt me. If they wanted me dead, they would’ve had this vehicle rolled, tossing me around like a ragdoll inside.

I waited patiently as loud bangs and thuds echoed from outside. The two men, getting increasingly nervous as they knew what was coming, weren’t going to be pretty or easy to shoot. And it wasn’t the doors flung open, and they began shooting and shooting at nothing.

Whoever was rescuing me waited for the reload. Then a perfect one, two. They dropped by bullets to the head. Their armored vest helped them so much.

I walked forward through the smoke, still in my handcuffs, and jumped down into the daylight, looking around to see who had fought so valiantly for me. I didn’t recognize a single one of them, the hulking men staring down at me, not one of their faces rang a bell. Until I heard the familiar click-clack of heels on the ground.

The bouncy hair and the pink outfit walking towards me felt like a Mirage. This couldn’t be right. I had to be dreaming, or maybe I’d actually lost my mind.

“Hi, daddy,” she bounced up into my arms, almost knocking me over in my reverie.

“Guilia?” I asked, stunned she’d have bothered in the first place.

Do you remember that Romanian arms dealer whose son was like totally obsessed with me last summer?” She giggled. “ I called him up and he was like totally down!” She clapped, dragging me with my arm back to a car.

“Now I do expect some changes, no more throwing me away,” she pouted. “And sissy has to pay,”

I still couldn’t believe this, this had to be a joke. The further we got, though, the more I believed it was real.

Guilia had rescued me.
