Being betrayed I front of everyone by Stephen and having the blame pushed to me makes me boil with so much anger, I'm itching to know how all of this happened despite the fact that I was very careful.
" it must've been hard for you but you did good " Mrs Moreen says squeezing my shoulders
Stephen looks at me from the platform with a smile " Greenland Corp will be under my control for now and I'll see to it that the production of the seed continues "
There's dissatisfied whispers in the crowd but no one is brave enough to ask questions. He stands a bit longer, waiting for anyone to ask questions but no one asks, so I take the bold step to ask the question on everyone's mind
" Are you doing this for the good of the people or just because you spite my father " I ask walking closer with my hand supporting my aching waist
His jaw clenches and he levels me with a glare. . . The question hangs in the air while the reporters record from my face to my husband's; I can already see a juicy story brewing.
" Let's talk about this at home " Mrs Moreen tries to get me to back down but I shrug her off
" Bruce Green is a manipulator and a frudstar, there's even evidence to convict him. The evidence will be released to the public soon enough and punishment will be given to those involved " He finally speaks up addressing the public, not me
I close my eyes and do a breathing exercise to keep the pain at bay but it just gets worse. I can feel the baby moving downwards and my legs becoming too heavy to stand. Was it possible that i was going into labor? But I still have like five weeks left before the baby arrives
" My wife's outburst is due to her pregnancy hormones and the love she has for her father but that doesn't change the fact that he's guilty as charged and whatever I'm doing is for the welfare of the people " He says before giving up the platform for someone else. He acknowledges his Grandfather with a nod while making his way to me
The hand supporting my waist tightens, he wants to say something but he doesn't. It seems he must've caught up on the situation.
" You're looking pale, are you okay? " He asks worried. He tries to hold me but I painfully move away from his touch
" Don't touch me " I say, my voice barely above a whisper. I can feel sweat trickling down my back and forehead.
He signals to Lucas and Jason before carrying me, this time I don't protest become the pain was slowly becoming unbearable.
When we arrive at the hospital, the nurse gives me something to ease the pain while the doctor checks my vital. Stephen stands beside the bed, his eyes watching me like a hawk. When the doctor is done, he announces that the baby is fine and it might come sooner than expected so it'll be wise to stay at the hospital for the time being.
" Thank you Doctor " I say with a smile while the doctor leaves, my smile falls immediately the doctor and nurse are out of the room
" You broke my trust " I say feeling sick just thinking about the fact that I let myself be used twice by one person
He sighs " I'm sorry "
" sorry does not fix anything " I groan in frustration
He nods " You're right but I had to do the right thing "
I shake my head in disagreement " You didn't have to. Stephen there are so many corrupt officials and you let them get away with that as far as it benefits you, so how's my father any different "
It's his turn to groan in frustration while punching the wall, I just stare at him blankly
" because it's different. I care about my people "
" You don't, you care more about revenge because the real mastermind behind all this is dead. My father is just a pawn in all of this " I point to the evidence still in his hand " You must've known that by now if you'd read through those properly "
His features goes from frustrated to cold " You had this all this while and you kept it away from me, why? "
I frown " Because I didn't want you to ruin my family, to destroy everything that my father worked hard to build "
He crosses his arm over his chest " Your father built it all on deceit and you knew all this but still chose to hide it " He frowns
I break into a sob " Stop deviating from the fact that you betrayed me. You promised to let my Dad off but you went back on your word, making me look like the villain infront of everyone "
Guilt flickers in his eyes but his resolve remains strong " I know you care about your family that's why you hid this for so long before eventually handing it back to your father but I want you to understand that no one cares for you as much as I do and I'll never do anything that'll put you or our baby in harms way. "
I look into his eyes before looking away, those green eyes have deceived me before but never again. I know Stephen is not doing all of this for the good of his people but for revenge, I just don't know the reason for his revenge , could it be related to Rain?
He moves closer to me, breaking through my haze " Sooner or later, you'll have to pick a side baby " His eyes hold mine in a stare
I shake my head " Why will I choose you over my family when you've betrayed and used me time and time again without consideration for my feelings "
" I care about you and you know that. My intentions towards you are real regardless of the fact that I might have tried to get your father exposed through you "
I scoff " So you admit to using me "
He pinches the bridge of his nose " That's not what I mean "
" Then? " I ask
" Despite the fact that I love you and I don't want to lose you, your family has to be held accountable for their actions " He drags the word
The baby moves causing me to feel a momentary pain
" Ouch " I flinch rubbing my belly to ease the pain
He tries to comfort me but I shrug him off
" I suggest you leave Stephen, I don't feel like talking to you right now "
He goes over to the couch and sits comfortably " I won't leave your side even for one minute baby, I can't risk it "
I laugh in disbelief " Risk what? "
His expression turns very serious " Risk you leaving, I know which side you'll pick but I'm not necessarily giving you a choice to not pick my side "
