Chapter 40: Nostalgia
Chapter 40: Nostalgia
Coming back to Greenwood after so long brings back a lot of feelings and memories, although this time I'm just here for an official party with my husband and his family. I can't help but itch to runaway for an hour just to go get a glimpse of my childhood home
The scent of fresh grass and earth in Greenwood does something to me that I can't place my hand on. The air here is different compared to Nothernham, I feel like letting my villain self free but I put it in a cage when Stephen puts his hand around my waist and nibbles my shoulder blade
" You're breathtaking my love " He says with a satisfied sigh
My cheeks go red on their own accord " I'm in a nightdress Stephen, don't flatter me " I say honestly
His face turns serious and he turns me so that I'm facing him
" I'm not flattering you baby, you do look breathtaking all the time. Whether it's in a night dress or without clothes on " His smirks, his hands going down to my back
" There's something I want to talk to you ab. . . " I lose my voice with him kissing my neck sensually. My knees weaken and I have to hold unto him for support
My phone rings disrupting the moment, we both grunt in frustration. The call ends before I even get to the phone but there's a message from my Dad at the top.
" Who's that? " Stephen asks behind me
" nobody " I turn to look at him with a sweet smile
He nods thoughtfully " you wanted to say something "
I nod in agreement walking over to join him on the bed " It's the case about my father "
He moves away from me seemingly annoyed " Don't Sally "
I shrug " You have no evidence to back up your claims so why don't you just drop it. It's been on for months but there's been no progress at all "
" The seeds are evidence enough " He says in a tight voice
I walk over to him " Those could've just been bad seed. The point is still that you have no solid evidence against him so why do you keep dragging the case on. Do you have an enmity with my father? "
His jaw ticks, he opens his mouth to say something but decides against it. He stands for a minute thinking about something then he sighs
" You're right, I'm quite paranoid that your father dared to deceive me but it's true that I don't have any evidence yet "
I nod in agreement with hope in my eyes
" Our baby will arrive in less than four months, I want all this to end soon so that our baby has a complete family with my parents inclusive. "
" is this you asking me to go easy in your father though? " He says placing his hands on my cheeks
I shrug " I really just want you to be fair and right now you're being unfair "
He nods in agreement " You're right but I'll still punish him a bit "
I pout " Just don't be too hard on my father, please "
He smiles " Anything to make you happy my queen "
I wait for him to leave before driving myself to my childhood home. It's empty when I walk in. . . I'm welcomed by a gust of earthy wind from the open window
I stand there in my childhood home staring into space. The place is still neat showing that people must've been taking care of it.
" Memories? " I hear my father's voice behind me
I wipe any expression off my face before turning to face him with a dead smile " Stephen has agreed to let you off with a warning "
" Thank you " He says in a low voice
" I'm not doing it for free "
" Here " I throw the documents at his feet but Dad doesn't look at the documents or attempt to pick then up, he just stares at me with pity in his eyes
" Don't look at me like that " I say, irritation bleeding into my voice
He shakes his head " Why Sally?, why did you let hate consume you "
I laugh genuinely amused by his question. I'm genuinely amused by the fact that they're all trying to convince me that my hate is not valid.
I stare at him seriously when I'm done laughing " You're a funny man father. Take it " I say nodding at the document " I've saved you so we're even now "
At the party, I try as much as I can to socialise without draining myself too much. It's lively and bustling with politicians and aspiring leaders. Dimitri is the first to give an opening speech then Mr Thompson gives a small talk about the power of unity and being strategic before giving the floor to Stephen.
He starts off by talking about Nothernham and it's relationships with her neighbours then he talks about the seeds that were suppose to bring the nations together and create a much stronger bond
" But the man in charge got too greedy " He says staring coldly at my Dad who cowers under his gaze
What is he doing ?
He continues by talking about my Dad's involvement with the Whitehalls and how this plan had lived for years. My face falls and my blood runs cold.
Mrs Moreen and I exchanged confused look while my parents are having a full blown panic attack. The crowd watches them with cold unforgiving eyes
" Who knows maybe he is involved in the homicide of the Whitehalls "
i scoff, now that's a silly claim
He looks at me this time " But all thanks to my beautiful wife, I have more than enough evidence "
Murmurs erupt in the crowd, I can tell that everyone's judging me already
He lifts the file I'd given my Dad earlier in the air " All the evidence are in here and Bruce Green will be punished severely "
I stare in disbelief as my father is dragged away by armed men and pushed into an amored vehicle, I want to go after them and stop them but a strong hand drag me back.
" let go of me right now " I turn to look at Stephen, the stab of betrayal gutting me deep
" No " He says sternly, his green eyes void of emotions
I'd let my guard down and trusted him and he used me, yet again.
" How could you " I whisper, my voice cracking and hate bubbling inside of me. . .
