Chapter 31: A shocking discovery

Chapter 31: A shocking discovery
Dad's entire facial expression and mannerism is all I needed to know that him and my mother were acquinted with Mayor Whitehall and his family, maybe even on a more personal level. His family was accused of embezzling public funds, spreading misleading informations about agricultural fertility and withholding some disaster relief from the people affected by crop infestation. Surprisingly all these charges were made against him just a month after his only daughter died, a daughter the public never even knew he had. I'm trying to put my head around why she must've been kept away from the public eye and if my Parents were close to the family, they'd know a thing or two.
Dad not wanting to stay and entertain my conversations any longer leaves with the excuse of feeling sick. I go back to my room to device a plan. If I can solve one case, it'll open a path to discover who tried to kill me.
It's been two days since I left Stephen's house and despite the fact that I asked and he promised to give me space, He shows up to my Parent's house with the guise of wanting to talk about business but his eyes follow my movements all the way from the other end of the garden. Dad tries to get his attention back to the plants but he just won't stop looking at me. I try as much as I can to not let his presence avoid me but I simply can't.
" Okay Baby, Daddy's stare is making me uncomfortable so we'll be going back inside, okay? " I whisper to my belly. I'm close to the door when I feel a sudden presence behind me which startles me.
I turn clutching my chest " How did you get here so fast?, you startled me "
" cause you're slow my love " He says trying so hard to suppress his smile.
I fold my hand over my chest " Okay?, what do you want ?"
" You "
That single word threatens to bring me to my knees. I feel a little bit of joy knowing that I'm not the only needy one amongst us
I try as much as I can to stop myself from smiling " Why? "
" Let's go talk in your room " He whispers pulling me in with his hands on my waist.
I look over his shoulder to find Dad pretending to be on the phone, I want to refuse the offer but the words don't just come out my mouth because if I'm being honest I've been craving intimacy.
" Okay " I say with a huff before taking his hand and dragging him to my room, he willingly let's me lead him.
Immediately we're behind closed door, I'm overcomed by my hormones. I push him on the bed and straddle him immediately fumbling with his shirt.
" wait " He holds my hands seeming very amused " I really wanted to talk but it seems you had other plans "
My cheeks burn from embarrassment " I . . I thought yo. . . You meant something else? " I say bowing my head in shame
He lifts my chin so I'm looking at his face " That can wait, your needs are more important "
He helps me out of my dress and stares at my body a little too long as if he was already eating me with his eyes . . . .
The launch of my dad's seed is around the corner so everyone's busy with preparations giving me time to snoop around the house unnoticed. Asides the newspapers and records I found in the library about the Mayor, I have a hard time finding anything else. After checking everywhere, I decide that the best place to check is my Parent's room. I pick the perfect day for my operation and secretly master the password to their room.
It's a Tuesday morning, Renae is out for her hair appointment while Dad and Mum have an important meeting with their sponsors.
" I've been feeling unusually tired lately and I have to pick up some important things from Sarah, so I'll skip " I say rubbing my baby bump after Dad invites me to go with them for the meeting
Mum rolls her eyes " There's no need for her to tag along "
My Dad completely ignores her and walks up to my side to give me a comforting hug before they leave. Once I'm sure they're out, I go upstairs to their room, the door is locked but thank goodness I knew their password. When I enter the room, I take a moment to take it all in. How spacious and neatly arranged the room is and most importantly, the separate beds.
It dawns on me that I've never really been to my Parent's room
" Focus Sally " I snap myself back to reality.
I look around the room first then I open a door that leads me to a walk in closet, after checking around and finding nothing, I enter the other door and it leads into a personal work area with two tall shelves filled with what I believe are research materials belonging to my father. I look around, taking the ones I suspect are useful and I'm about to leave when I notice a sealed box at the corner. There's an address on it, No. 8 Crow Street, my husband's house. I take the box to leave but halts when I hear voices in the other room. It seems my parents came back to take something.
" How could you forget something so important Gisele, you act stupid sometimes "
A slap cuts through the air
" Don't talk to me like that, remember I'm the brain behind all of this " Mum yells at him
He laughs " You're the brain behind what exactly Gisele, stealing Tee's idea and forcing me to take all the credits, you sneaky bitch "
Mum's voice drops dangerously low " Don't mention that name ever again. You should be grateful I've always been covering up for your gay ass "
I cover my mouth in shock, so Dad is gay? And who's Tee ? .
Dad scoffs " Like I've not saved your own ass so many times Gisele, you keep trying to ruin me with your silly games "
Another slap cuts through the air " I won't warn you again Green, don't talk to me like that "
" Stop threatening me and slapping me " He yells seemingly frustrated
" if you insist. Now we'll go out there and we'll act like a give a damn about each mother " Mum says
The silence stretches then the door opens and closes. I wait for 10 more minutes before sneaking the things back to my room. The box contains things belonging to Rain, there's a photo album book, a journal and other random things like jewelries, letters etc.
I open the book album first and I gasp. . . . The first picture I see is the picture of a little girl that looked like a replica of me . . .
