Good

Joseph remained seated on the edge of the bed, alone once more, the room heavy with silence and unanswered truths.

Eric moved through the expansive hallways of the grand estate with measured, deliberate steps, the faint echo of his polished shoes tapping against the marble floors trailing behind him. The estate breathed quiet wealth — towering columns, priceless artwork lining the walls, chandeliers casting a warm golden glow as the sun dipped lower toward evening. At 5PM, the place carried a calm that felt almost deceptive, like everything was holding its breath.
His expression remained professional, unreadable, but his eyes stayed alert as he approached the end of the hallway.
Two SS agents stood at their designated station, backs straight, hands clasped in front of them. Their dark suits blended into the refined opulence around them, their eyes sharp and observant.
Eric slowed to a stop in front of them.
“Evening, boys,” he greeted casually, his tone relaxed.
“Evening, sir,” the agents responded in unison, their voices respectful and crisp.
Eric let his gaze sweep over them briefly before speaking again. “How’s it going?”
One of the agents shrugged slightly, the corner of his mouth lifting. “Nothing much, sir. Nothing beyond the usual. Just two SS agents in their designated station, doing their jobs.”
The second agent nodded in agreement. “Quiet evening so far.”
A light chuckle passed between the three of them, brief and restrained, the kind shared among men accustomed to discipline.
Eric’s smile faded almost immediately, replaced by a focused expression. He straightened slightly.
“I need you boys to fix cameras in the governor’s stepmom’s room,” he said evenly.
The air shifted.
One of the agents blinked, leaning forward just a fraction. “Mrs. Anderson’s room?” he repeated in a hushed whisper, as though saying it louder might draw attention.
“Yes,” Eric confirmed with a small, affirming nod. “Mrs. Anderson’s.”
The second agent exchanged a glance with his partner, his brows knitting together. He leaned in slightly as well. “Why?” he whispered, his voice low and cautious.
Eric didn’t flinch. “I don’t know,” he replied plainly. “I didn’t ask.”
Both agents looked at him, waiting.
“It’s an order from Mr. Governor himself,” Eric continued, his tone sharpening just enough to make the weight of it unmistakable. “And he wants it done ASAP.”
The hesitation in their faces faded, replaced by understanding. They didn’t argue. They didn’t question further. They both knew better.
“Yes, sir,” they responded together.
“We’ll go fix it now,” one of them added, already shifting his stance as if preparing to move.
Eric lifted a hand slightly, stopping them before they could step away. His voice dropped, firm and deliberate.
“Mr. Governor doesn’t want his mom to be aware of this,” he said. “So make sure she has no clue about it.”
The first agent’s eyes widened just a bit. “Has no clue?” he whispered to himself, uncertainty creeping into his voice. “We’re planting hidden cameras in her room… secretly?”
Eric’s gaze hardened. “Yes. Secretly,” he said. “You heard what I said. That’s the instruction from the boss.”
The second agent nodded slowly, exhaling under his breath. “Okay, boss.”
The first agent followed suit, nodding once more. “Understood.”
Eric gave a final nod of approval, then turned on his heel and walked away, his footsteps echoing softly as he disappeared down the hallway.
He retraced his steps through the expansive corridors, the grandeur of the estate once again closing in around him. His pace remained steady, unhurried, but his mind stayed fixed on the task at hand. The soft glow of the evening light filtered through tall windows, casting long shadows across the floors as he made his way back toward Joseph’s room.
When he reached the wide, imposing door of the master bedroom, he stopped and raised his hand. He knocked gently.
“Yes!” Joseph’s voice flowed from inside, sharp and alert.
“It’s me, sir,” Eric responded.
“Eric?” Joseph’s voice came again, this time with recognition.
“Yes, sir.”
“Come in.”
Eric pushed the door open and stepped inside the opulent bedroom. The space was vast, richly furnished, the air carrying the faint scent of expensive cologne. Joseph remained at the edge of the king-sized bed, adjusting his posture as Eric entered, his face tense but controlled.
Joseph looked up at him immediately. “What’s up?” he asked. “Have you done what I asked?”
“Yes, sir,” Eric replied without hesitation. “I’ve put the boys on it.”
Joseph’s eyes searched his face. “And?”
“It should be in place before night falls,” Eric added calmly.
Joseph exhaled, the tension in his shoulders easing just slightly. “Good.”
Eric nodded once in acknowledgment. There was nothing more to say.
Without another word, Eric turned, walked back toward the door, and stepped out, leaving Joseph alone in the room once more. The door closed softly behind him, sealing the silence back inside.
