Chapter 30
Alexis:
My mother sat on my bed, watching me unpack.
"I still can't believe you are here, Mom." I repeated for probably the twentieth time. "And I can't believe you're here!" She exclaimed, hopping off the bed and wrapping her arms around me from behind.
Everything was so unreal.
A month ago, my mom argued with my father and reclaimed our relationship. Within a few hours, my suitcases were packed, I was saying goodbye to my best friends, and on a plane to god-knows-where with my mother. But, I wouldn't have it any other way.
On the plane ride, my mom told me baby stories and her rise to success in the years of her absence. I wasn't upset at all with her. There was no hate in my heart towards my mother for chasing her dreams. Hearing the truth from her and my father gave me all the understanding I needed.
And my mother accepted me. She accepted all of me. My attitude, personality, style, and sexuality. She was actually intrigued to hear about my coming out, my first girlfriend, and even my first sexual experience. I thought maybe it was the whole doctor side of her wanting to know about my life but realized that she was my mother and wanted to make up for lost time.
I even told her about Aubrey and everything that had happened. My mother was upset. She understood the law of attraction.
"Are you going to be okay? The loft isn't as big as the palace you lived in while with Hank. But it's spacious enough for the both of us. And you're friends. If at any time you're not happy and want to move back to Los Angeles, please tell me." My mother said. I nodded and smiled. "Okay."
When the flight attendant announced that we'd be landing soon, I was excited and nervous at the same time. "Where are we?" I wondered, peaking out the planes window.
"Vermont." My mother replied.
An hour or so later, we arrived at my mother's building, and it was beautiful. It was in town, right in the middle of the shopping center. There was valet parking, an indoor gym, indoor pool, laundry room, and spa. My mother was very well off for herself and I was happy for her.
The doorman helped us with my bags up to my mother's loft. Which happed to be huge. Once my bags were in my new room, my mom immediately drove us to my new school which was an average public school in the district and then we had lunch.
After posting on my Insta story and tagging my friends, I received a call from an unknown number.
"Hey, is this Alexis?" It was a females voice. "...yes." I answered slowly. "You may not know me. But I'm Ashley, Aubrey's best friend. She had me follow you on Instagram a while back, you're in Vermont now?" She asked. "Yeah."
When I said those words, she began squealing. "O-M-G. You have to go see Aubrey. We live here too." The call ended and seconds later I received a text with an address.
Aubrey lived in Vermont? I could have sworn she said Virginia.
My mother was beat. She kissed my forehead and had a car drive me around for sightseeing. Of course, my main sight to see was Aubrey. After hitting the mall to get my girl a gift, I gave the driver the address and made my way towards my woman.
When I arrived, I saw Aubrey balled up on a porch swing, sobbing.
"Hey, Princess. What's wrong?" I greeted her. She looked up at me with her jaw dropped.
"Alexis?" she asked softly. I smiled and made my way up the steps to where she was seated. "Alexis!" she called out, getting up and throwing her arms around me.
Before I knew it, she was crying uncontrollably into my shoulder. "It's okay. I'm here now. I'm not going anywhere." I whispered into her ear.
She pulled away and looked up at me. "Is this fate?" Aubrey playfully asked.
"I think so." I replied, seriously. We pressed our lips together and I felt those same sparks I had felt the first time we kissed.
When we'd had enough, I sat down with Aubrey and explained everything. "I love you so much. Clearly, nothing can keep us apart. Not even the people who created us." I spoke. Aubrey smiled and laid her head on my shoulder. "So, I guess we don't have to worry about going to hell anymore since we aren't about to become stepsisters," she told me.
"Huh?" I responded.
"You didn't hear?" Aubrey looked up at me, surprised.
But before she could respond, her mother came flying out the door. And before she said anything to Aubrey, she looked at me as if she was seeing a ghost.
"For Christ's sake, not you again!" her mother yelled.
"Mom, calm down," Aubrey let out, quickly.
"I'm calm. Your grandmother can have you. I refuse to be around this sinful filth," Michelle added, zipping up her jacket and rushing away from the house.
Aubrey's grandmother came out a few seconds later. "Based on my daughters words, I'm going to assume you're Alexis." She smiled, reaching for my hand and ushered me inside. Aubrey gave a cheeky grin and followed us inside.
I sat at her grandmother's house until my mother called me to come home. And of course, I took Aubrey with me to spend the night.
"Wow, this is so beautiful," Aubrey gasped, looking off my bedroom's balcony. It overlooked the city.
"No, you're beautiful. Come here," I told her. Aubrey turned around and smirked at me. I was laying on the bed, watching her examine the contents of my new bedroom.
Aubrey plopped down next to me on the bed. We started to kiss for a few minutes but I stopped.
"Promise you'll never leave me?" I asked, staring into her eyes.
"I promise. I love you, Alexis. Forever."
"I love you more, Aubrey. Always."
This was truly a fairy tale. I had my princess.
*The End*
