Serena Mclane's P. O. V I groan in pain as I stumble after Damien. After arriving at his office building, the man's been acting... weird for a better word ever since our little scenario back home barely an hour ago. "Hold on." I mumble to Damien who surprisingly comes to a stop. I wince as I take another step forward before sighing in defeat. Screw this. Bending down, I flail about but thankfully Damien catches my arm and wraps an arm around me so as to steady me. "Thanks." I mumble as I now, much easily, slide one heel off and then the other. Standing up right, I clutch them both in my hand and continue to walk. Feeling at ease as the relief from removing heels encases me. It feels like heaven. Damien walks along with me but then tugs at my heels making me look at him in confusion. "I'll hold them for you." He murmurs as he takes them. Well okay. "Are you feeling all right?" I mumble as I narrow my eyes to look at him better. Is he high? Or is this Damien's twin? Damien looks at me and lets a small smile tug at his lips. Something is definitely not right. "I'm perfectly fine." Damien says looking me straight in the eyes. I can't help but to feel as if there's more he wants to say. Or something else. Approaching the doors, I can see a very triumphant looking Greg standing there. Sporting a wide grin. When he sees us, he practically squeals and runs to us. "I fucking got it. And you said I can't do shit." Greg says happily throwing a pointed look at Damien. Damien stares at him blankly and looks down at Greg's empty hands. "And where is it Greg? To have got something you need to have it in your possession. So do you have it." Greg huffs and turns his back to us, motioning for us to follow him. "Ungrateful little shit. After all I do for him, he doesn't even say thank you. I'll show him." Greg mutters to himself while I laugh behind him. Damien frowns at me, making me walk slower and beside him. "Don't laugh at me," The way he says it doesn't come out demanding but more child like which causes me to smile which in turn causes his frown to grow. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry." I whisper as I try to hold back my smile. "Oh and congrats man." Greg says as we approach a new section of the building I've never been to before. "For what?" Damien asks unamused. Greg smiles and continues, "I'm glad you eventually came out of the closet. Keeping such secrets must be hard." He says, eyeing the heels in Damien's hand. At this, I burst into laughter causing Damien to full on scowl. As we pass the halls, I expect them to be empty but am taken aback by all the men decked out in black clothes that nod at Damien and then curiously glance at me. I shuffle closer to Damien, feeling intimidated by their stares. Luckily Greg steps into a blocked off room and heads to the middle of the room where a conference table lies. I look around him, for some reasons expecting a huge threatening machine or something of the sorts. Except when Greg steps out of the way all I see is a black notebook. I turn to Damien who has a pleased– as close to an emotion he can actually display on his face– look on his face. "You made me sprint, in heels, for that." I say, glancing from Damien to the small black book, slightly bigger than the palm of my hand. "I apologize." He says, actually looking concerned. I look back at the notebook intently before my eyes widen in recognition. I march towards it and lift it up, flipping through the pages. My assumptions are correct. "These are-" I cut myself off as I take in Damien's stoic expression. "Your father's ledger for the past few months. Yes I know." My mouth falls open in disbelief as I scan everything once more. I remember telling my father to not act daft and actually use technology to have a complete organized system for all his ledgers but he never listened. He thought that doing certain things by hand could only benefit you and that we shouldn't put up all our hopes and compliance on machines. As much as I agree, this isn't one such circumstance. Why didn't father just listen in the first place? My eyes flit back and forth from Damien to the book. Was all that care and attention just a ploy? To distract me from making a fuss as he knew I would. Taking a measly file sure. That's fine. But this isn't something that I would freely allow him to exploit. Judging by his stiff character, I can tell he didn't want this to happen. So all that show of affection, of being caring towards me was fake? For some reason, that hurts more than my father's lack of care he showed today. Before I know it, I throw the book on the conference table. "Take it. I honestly can't give a fuck right now." Then I proceed by storming out of the room and blindly following my pathway. Not knowing where I'm going, I rush towards where I think the main building is but I can hear fast approaching footsteps. "Serena." Damien growls out my my name. I can hear him gaining on me and try to fasten my steps. How will I even get out of here? "Serena!" Damien growls out and I feel a hand grasp my shoulder. I huff in defeat and turn around. "What do you want?" I spit out. Damien takes a step back and stares at me. "What's wrong?" He asks. He chased me all this way without knowing what's wrong? Granted it isn't a long way but to my lazy self, it definitely seems so. I let out a short sarcastic laugh as I step away from him, "Everything's fine. Nothing is wrong Damien. Just leave me alone" I mumble as I turn to move away but once again he stops me. "I do have some first hand experience that when a woman says everything is fine, it's actually quite the contrary." He says lowly, gazing at me in that particular way he does. I sigh and realize that it will be far better if I spell it out for him. Running away like a damsel in distress is best suited for movies. And no way in hell am I a damsel. "Damien. I don't know about you. But I for one do not like being used." I say harshly. Damien furrows his eyebrows, looking confused. "Who's using you? My face drops at his words before I give him a dry look. "Listen. I'm not using you. But I don't understand why you would think that." Damien murmurs as he steps towards me. I stay silent as I swallow harshly. Damien cocks his head to the side as he takes in my expression. "I know you just wanted to stall. So that I wouldn't interfere with your plan as Greg goes and steals my father's things." Instead of getting angry and going all cold and hard on me, Damien sighs and shakes his head. "You should know by now that I wouldn't do anything like that. If I did anything that hurt you than I apologize but know I didn't mean to." He says sincerely. I'm not sure if he gets the gist of what I'm trying to say but he does understand to an extent. I go to speak up but stop when a man dressed in all black comes up to the both of us. "Mr. Stryker." He begins. Damien immediately steps closer to me and grasps onto my hand, pushing me ever so discreetly behind him. "We need to speak in private, Sir." The man speaks up, eyeing me. I narrow my eyes at his degrading look and stare at him till he looks away. Damien turns to me and then glances back at the man before shaking his head. "Inform me later." "But Sir its import-," "Inform. Me. Later." Damien answers in a cold harsh voice. One he, thankfully, doesn't use on me. The man pales then nods. "Yes Sir." He says before walking away. "Serena this time can you please come back to the room without running away." He mumbles. I blush slightly but nod. As we make our way back to the room, I can't help but to comment on his behaviour. "You have a way of talking to other people. You don't talk to me that way though." I try to explain but then fail, making my nose scrunch up. Damien looks down at me and smirks while gently squeezing my hand. He gives me a pointed look to which I give a curios one back. "I don't go around carrying people's heels either." I let out a short laugh but then pause as I notice that he still holds my heels in his hands. "You're unbelievable." I comment, incredibly amused. Damien gives me a wicked smirk. "Only for you."
