It was a joyous occasion gathering in the red flame pack. The gathering was meant to help the young pups make their first transformation into their wolf form.
I swung my legs playfully, staring at one of the council elders who was currently addressing the werewolf members.
I'm currently sitting down amid my parents at the podium in the packground.
Not quite understanding the long address made by the council elders, I yawned and rubbed my eyes with my little finger in boredom.
Mom's attention seemed to be grabbed by my occasional yawning. Mom touched my black hair with a smile and stared at me. "Oh! Dear little princess Filippa, you're bored, aren't you?" Mom whispered with that gentle smile on her face.
I leaned toward her ear and whispered honestly, trying not to let Dad hear. "I'm bored, mom. Can I sightsee for a few minutes?" I stared at Mom with cute puppy eyes I knew she'd fall for.
"Filippa, you'll be ten years, two years from now, and you'll be making your first transformation then. Mom and Dad want to prepare you beforehand." Mom whispered to me through the mind-link.
I stuck my chest out courageously. Isn't it just changing into a wolf? Mom and Dad taught me to be brave; I'm not scared at all. Instead, I've been anticipating it. "Mom, I'm not afraid at all." I stared at Mom seriously and eagerly.
Mom sighed and nodded her head. She touched my black hair and bent to my level before whispering into my right ear. "20 minutes only. Be back before Alpha notices your absence."
I nodded with a smile. "Ok, mom. It'll be our game; Dad isn't in." I mind-linked her, and without hesitation, I sprang up and began to dash toward the forest—one of my favorite parts of the red flame pack—with my little feet.
'Beat him to death. Something like him is a runt in the pack. He's such a disgrace to the Red Flame Pack. This abnormal freak should die.'
'Yes, you're right. Let's beat him to death.'
'Look at you; nobody wants you. Not your dead slut mother or your father who failed to show up till today. Last year, when everyone transformed, you were the only one who couldn't. Beat him. Beat him. Beat him to death.'
The noise from the forest direction grabbed my attention. Accompanying these voices was the sound of heavy, continuous beatings, which made me stop in my tracks.
I frowned in puzzlement. Isn't everyone attending the gathering? Who are those causing trouble?
Also, Mom and Dad instructed that there should be no bullying in the pack; who dares to go against their order?
I wrinkled my brows and began to make my way toward the forest where the bullying was happening, ensuring that my steps were as quiet as possible.
As soon as I entered the forest, I saw five older teen boys beating a malnourished-looking 11-year-old boy.
The 11-year-old boy was currently curled on the floor, whimpering in pain as the sticks descended on him. He bit his lower lips hard and stubbornly held in the tears that threatened to slip past his cheeks.
The image of the boy made my heart shake and set anger coursing through me. We are all one; how dare they do this to him?
I pointed at the five boys angrily. "Hey, you all. What are you doing to him? How dare you bully a member of the werewolf clan…"
Before I could complete my word, the 11-year-old boy who had been whimpering in pain suddenly stood up on all fours, his body taut as if he wanted to transform.
His malnourished face became pale, and sweat began to drip down his skin, yet he didn't let out anything. His fingers stabbed into the loamy forest soil, and his face knitted into a frown as if he were in pain.
I took two steps toward him in concern: "Hey, what's wrong with…"
Before I could complete my word, a deep roar reverberated in the forest, shaking and striking fear into everyone's heart.
I felt myself freeze when that smell drifted into my nose. My eyes widened in shock—a vampire! We've been raising a vampire?
But his mother is a wolf…
'He's a vampire. A disgusting vampire, let's kill him.' One of the five boys yelled and moved closer to the crouching 11-year-old boy.
I stretch my hand toward him in fear and panic. "No, stop. Don't kill him…"
Before I could complete my words, one of the boys grabbed a huge stick intending to beat the 11-year-old vampire and disrupt his transformation.
However, before the stick could fall on the boy, the crouching vampire suddenly stood up and grabbed the boy with the stick in his hand; his actions were faster than I'd ever seen before.
The vampire's eyes were now dyed red, and his hand had changed into a claw. The 11-year-old vampire grabbed the boy by the neck; his lips parted coldly, killing intent swirling in his red eyes. "Die."
'No. Rex No!"
A sudden, loud ringing woke me up from sleep. I sat up from my bed and sighed in relief when I saw that I was still in my new hostel.
I couldn't believe that I had just dreamed about the day Rex and I met.
I yawned sleepily, rubbed my eyes, and frowned slightly. I took a glance at the wall, and the time says 3:47 a.m.
My brows knitted in confusion. I thought the ringing tone was caused by the alarm, but now I realize that it wasn't. Where was the noise from?
"Ugh, Maia, please pick up your call. I have to sleep." A sleeping Arya suddenly grumbled from her sleep, which grabbed my attention.
Call? My frown deepened. Oh! Phone! Yes, Wyatt got me a phone. I've forgotten about it.
Quickly, I turned to the bedstand where my phone was placed, and I picked up my new phone. Arya was right; my phone was the one ringing.
I was supposed to give people my number before I could be called, and since I never gave anyone my number, I never expected to receive a call, especially at this time. Is it Wyatt? Is something wrong?
Upon picking up the phone, I discovered that 'My one and only,' was the one calling. What the hell is my one and only? Is Wyatt behind this? I never expected him to be this sort of man, but it's kind of cute.
I picked up the call and placed my phone next to my ear. "Hello…"
"Get out of your hostel before 10 minutes; your time starts now." Without giving me a chance to reply, Asher cut off the call.
Oh! Asher is the one to save his number in such a weird way. I should've expected that Wyatt was cooler than that.
Wait! He just mentioned training!
Yeah! Asher told me last night that my training would begin. Silly me, I've forgotten about it already.
Quickly, I stood up from the bed and neatly arranged my bed.
Remembering Asher's instructions, I hurried to the bathroom to wash my face and mouth before returning to the closet to select my clothes.
I sighed in relief when I saw a gym outfit among the clothes Wyatt had ordered his guard to deliver in the afternoon, and I put on a black gym outfit.
After putting on my clothes, I put on my track shoes and ran out of the hostel; all my actions were extremely fast.
"9 minutes," Asher commented, staring at his watch. "Not bad," Asher commented with a wicked smirk.
I sighed in relief and packed my hair in a bun as I made my way toward Asher, the cold Wyatt, and the detached Oswald. The three were all in their gym outfits.
I bowed to them and said, "Good morning, teacher. Good morning, Beta. Good morning, Alpha. Thank you all for last night." I appreciated while wondering why everyone was presented when Asher was the one who wanted to teach me how to fight.
Oswald's eyes swept me coldly and began to jog in the opposite direction I came from, not bothering to reply to my greeting.
Seeing Oswald's indifference to me made my heart break, but I bit my lower lip and tried to act uncared for his coldness. I guess he must still be infuriated at me for last night.
Wyatt nodded to me coldly, and without saying anything, he jogged toward Oswald.
I felt my heart break more at Wyatt's alienation. Weren't they good to me last night? What's happening? Is it because of Rex's issue?
I pinched my palm and closed my eyes to calm my messy thoughts. 'Filippa, you can't give those miserable emotions chances to gnaw on you. The only thing you need to do is channel your emotions into strength that'll make you stronger.' I comforted myself.
After saying the comforting words, I felt extremely relaxed.
"Starting from now on, I expect you to be here at this time; am I clear?" Asher asked in a sharp voice.
My eyes flew open, and I nodded to him as a reply.
"We'll start with jogging to loosen you up. We're jogging in the opposite direction since that led to the school gym, our destination." Asher informed me, and without waiting for my reply, Asher began to jog toward the opposite path from Oswald and Wyatt's direction.
