Chapter 57 57: The CPR Defense

Chapter 57 57: The CPR Defense
He knew it, he should have really stayed away from Saint. He should have ignored those pulls, but he was trying to be selfish for once, and look where it landed him.

Sitting beside Baby, Saint looked a lot more in control even though his insides were nothing as he looked. He was almost shutting down inside him, but he knew he had to salvage his future...and Baby's.

If there was anything he'd learnt from spending time with Baby, it was that on as much as they claimed to hate each other, they shared the same goals in life, and if he let Baby fall, he let himself fall, too.

Slowly, Saint stood, walked over to Nicekel with easy steps and stared at the tablet.

He calmly looked away like he had stared at some random boring video.

He faced Sloane, shoulders square and eyes steady, "You wanted Synergy, Ms. Sloane, that is evidence that Baby and I are the best fit. We're good together –"

"Saint," Baby gasped, his face turning ashen.

'Has Saint lost it? Is he trying to throw away our last chance?' Baby breathed angrily.

"As co-captains — of course," Saint bowed his head to Sloane, smiling politely at a confused Coach.

Sloane narrowed her eyes, waiting to see just how Saint had planned to get them out of the visible mess.

"The video has been misunderstood," Saint started, "Yes, my lips did touch my co-captain's but not as it's been interpreted." He said, pushing a hand into his pocket.

"We might be perceived as enemies but we are not, we're actually close friends who look out for each other, and had it not been for my keen eyes always watching Baby, THC would have lost a gem that night— that video was me giving CPR, Ms. Sloane, not kissing–"

"Awesome, then," Sloane cut in smoothly.

She walked over and took the tablet back from Nickel, "That is a relief for my bank account. I do hope we don't get any more of such— gay accidents. I can't guarantee your positions if I see such a scandal or any scandal at all," she turned to Nickel, her icy eyes locking in on his pale face.

"Watch your boys, Coach. It won't be just them losing their future," With that, Sloane turned and walked out of the apartment, the sound of her heels sending chills down the men's spines.

The moment the door closed, Nickel released a deep breath, "I don't know how she believes that. I dint want to know what's going on between you two. All I just want is for you both to get your fucking acts together. No more scandals," he looked from Saint to Baby, and then he turned and walked away as well.

Silence.

For a full minute, no one spoke, no one moved.

Baby was the first to move, slowly standing on his feet.

He stared at Saint's back for a while, not knowing whether to thank him or walk away.

He chose the latter.

From now on, there was absolutely no need to engage in conversations with Saint. They were almost caught; ignoring Sloane's warning would bring them to a horrible and miserable end.

This time, he wasn't even going back to his usual selfhe was about to become a ghost, unseen, unheard.

Baby Danvers would only be seen and heard on the ice and nowhere else.

Saint suddenly heard Baby's door closing behind him and spun around, veins popping out from the sides of his head.

"You've got to be shitting me," he muttered and strode toward Baby's room, pushing in without permission.

In Baby's room, he sat on his bed, not bothering to lift his head as he heard Saint approaching him.

Saint's shadow fell over him as the young man stood right in front, the air once again turning thick between them.

"I hope you're happy now?" Saint asked, staring at Baby's lowered head with a frown.

Baby sighed, "Just let me be, Saint. I'm tired, I promise." He murmured, rubbing his eyes.

"Tired?" Saint scoffed.

Stepping between Baby's legs, he hooked his finger under Baby's chin, tilting his head back.

"I warned you, Baby. You just refused to get tamed," he murmured, roaming his eyes over Baby's face.

Baby chuckled, standing to face Saint. He raised his hand and wrapped it around Saint's wrist, removing it from his chin.

"You warned me? Like all this is my fault?" He asked quietly.

"Like I was the only one in the video? As if I asked you to save or fucking kiss me, you fucking psycho," he snarled, heaving slowly.

Saint saw the pain flash in Baby's eyes, but he was also too angry to back down. He needed to blame someone.

"You never listen, Baby. If you hadn't gone to that dumb party, we wouldn't have been involved in such— m look, if it wasn't for me out there, our ass would have been dropped, and now I have my fucking life tied to yours because –"

"Enough!" Baby snapped, pushing Saint's hard and firm.

Saint barely moved, his face darkening, "I might not tolerate –"

"Get out! Out, Saint!" Baby barked, "Just go. Yes, I was wrong, I stained your perfect image, put your future at risk, entwined your perfect life with my messy own, and I almost ruined your life, I get it. I'm sorry, that's what you need, right? An apology, there, you've got it. Just go and leave me alone," he pointed his shaky finger toward his door, his face red from anger and fear.

He was scared, truly, if it want fir Saint's smart thinking, he would have lost everything out there. All he just wanted was to be left alone, to mind his business.

He was tired of all the drama.

Saint stared, unmoving.

"I just need you tamed, Baby. You fail, I fail –"

"I get it, Mr. Perfect. Okay? I fucking get it. Please, leave," Baby murmured, holding the bubbling anger back within him.

Needed him tamed? Was he some sort of animal?
