“ARE you going to pursue again about marriage, Mom? Do you need to go this far just to let me marry someone else that I never love?” Stephanie asked bitterly to her mother right after she opened her eyes.

“Hello, Sweetheart. Finally,  you were awaken. How’s your trip to London?” she answered back instead.

That makes her furious. Its been a while since her mother say a word about marriage. And now that she’s tired from a long trip, she did an unpredictable move.

“What’s the matter wrong with you, Mom? My boss said you prepared something for me. But I couldn’t believe that this is what he mean. Tell me, Mom, what are you planning again this time?!”

From disbelief it turns into anger!

She’s satisfied of what time they have. She’s not asking for more. Sometimes they are just exchanging secret messages. On how they long each other. Even they need to fake smiles in front of her mother. Because they need to endure in the name of love.

“Hmmm... I guess you don’t know your mother yet, sweetheart. But I will let that slides Because it’s true that I want you to get married but not in a way you think.” She smiled.

She then raised her eyebrows. Did she over react because her mother let her abducted by those men that she doesn’t know? Or she took a bait that her mother laid again? But as she’s thinking that way, she didn’t realise that her mother is observing her as well. She merely flinched when her mother spoke.

“Did I scared you that much, sweetheart, for you think that way about me? Hmmm... If that is the case, I’m so disappointed right now. Are you not going to ask why did we have to scare you to death? Well, to have thrill, sweetheart. It’s  been a while since you focused that much in working. Meaning, we want you to enjoy your life as a lady.”

Mrs Fuentebella-Saavedra wants to hides the disappointment on her voice but she couldn’t help herself. She can understand the shocked on what they have done. But she’s hurt a little bit because of her daughters gestures.

UPON hearing those from her mother, Stephanie felt so ashamed. She is betraying her already for few years but she doubted her intentions as well. But what she can do, she expressed what’s on her mind already.

“M-Mom...” She whispered that almost can not be heard.

“Oh, c’mon, sweetheart. Don’t feel so sad. It’s my faults that you think it that way. Because we want to surprise you with thrill, it turns out like this. But, by the way, get up and fix yourself because we will continue the party,” she heard her say.

She felt so ashamed!

How embarrassing to blabbered such a things to her own mother!

But, wait!

Something is bothering her as well. But reconciliation with her mother is more important than the things that bothering her. And before she could stop herself, she hugged her Mom!

“I’m sorry, Mom. It’s true that I was scared to death that is why all those words came out from me without thinking. Please forgive me for that, Mommy,” she said while hugging her.

“C’mon, sweetheart. There’s nothing wrong with that. And hearing those from you nor asking my forgiveness is completely enough for me. Your mom’s love you so much, sweetheart. Let’s go to join them before they will walk away.” Mrs Fuentebella-Saavedra immediately turned around and embraced her only daughter as well.

LATER that night...

“How did it go, Honey? Did you surprise your daughter? She’s not around already when I came home,” Ramil said when he and his wife are already resting.

“As you predicted, hon. She thinks in other way around. But it’s okay because it’s my faults why did she acted that way. But said something that stocked in my head,” she answered as she sat down instead of laying.

Because he is clueless on what his wife wants to say, he raised an eyebrows as well. But he remain as his position or laying down on the bed while facing the ceilings.

“What is it, Hon? If I heard it right as you stated, the surprise party went well. Then what are trying to say, hon? Who knows  maybe we can elaborate the meaning and we will be able to understand what is it,”  he responded as  he turned to face his spouse who is sitting at the edge of their bed.

Then...

‘Mom, no matter what you do, I will never tell anyone who is that person who own my heart.’

‘But, why, sweetheart? I’m your mother. And besides you are not underage anymore to hide a love life. Is he a man with family?’

‘Yes, Mom. He has. But because we love each other, we agreed to hide our relationship to everyone. It’s a love that forbidden by the law. He is a respected person with personality in the society. That is why, even you will take my own life, I will never confess who is he.’

‘Is he from Madrid,  sweetheart? If he is from Madrid with a position in the society, maybe I’ll be able to know him by my own. ‘

But she just shook her head.

‘I first met him when I was a little girl. But when I saw him again, we are both adult already.’

‘Then why you and him didn’t pursue that puppy love?’

‘He was married that time already, Mom. That is why, no matter how hard you will try, even it will cost my life, you will never know who is he.’

“WHEN I asked her again what happened to that man nowadays, she just smiled as she wrapped her arms around my waist. That is why I wasn’t able to question her more. I guess she is very lonely young woman. If my memory is right, both of them are in love to each other that makes them to be contented in a little time that they have,” she explained as she looked at the door as if Stephanie was there.

As he heard those words from his wife, he secretly wish to be near with his beloved Stephanie to comfort her. Because it’s true that they are both in love. That is why she is very lonely woman. He married his wife just to get closer to her. But that’s his biggest mistake. There no law forbidding to have a relationship with a person who is younger than him. Because he is ten years junior than his wife. If only he waited  patiently until she reached the right age, maybe they are the husband and wife not having a precarious affair.

“Then we can not do anything there anymore, honey. As your state or your conversation with her, even you will take her life, she will hide the identity of her man,” he answered.

But in his mind, he is rejoicing because he can feel between the lines that her beloved Stephanie truly love him since she was ten years and he promised a wedding to her.

“Yes, honey. Ah, could you please hand me my medication in the drawer? My body pain is killing me again,” she replied.

Without a sound, Ramil sat down and took the medicine of his wife and handed to her.

“Thank you, honey.” She smiled and took the water in the side table.

“Oh, Marielle maybe forgot to put water. Wait a little, honey and I’ll go and take it in the refrigerator in the living room.” She resorted as she slowly stood up and didn’t wait for an answer from her husband.

But!

But when his wife stepped out of their room, Ramil's smile completely broke free. A smile with something to express.
