Sapphire's POV
"What do you mean by that?" I took gentle strides closer to him.
" Maybe you should let him explain things out," Enya suggested as she saw that I wasn't paying attention to what he was about to say.
"Stay out of this, Enya," I warned. I was clearly annoyed, being used by the one werewolf I once loved and trusted.
"Keep it low, Sapphire, I'm trying to work things out between us. Please listen." He stood up from the bed, half naked, walking towards me, just covered with the sheets that were once on the bed.
"Sapphire, I knew from the beginning that you were the wolf I danced with. True to word, I hate the sight of vampires, " he paused, quickly twisting his face in a horrible manner depicting disgust. " But I really needed to see you, to sort things out with you."
My eyes were fixed on him as I moved towards the coffee table. For the umpteenth time I noticed its beautiful wood, made of polished mahogany, with intricate inlays that suddenly felt captivating. I looked away from him as I weaved my hands gently on the wood. "Alright, let's hear your story, what have you got to explain?" My attention was still fixed on the wooden coffee table.
"Sapphire, events of the past really created a vacuum between us. All I tried to do was to fill that vacuum, but I guess I was too hard on you, rushing you all over."
He paused. I looked up to his direction, he was already facing the floor to ceiling, wall to wall window. I took notice of the window, it was indeed a masterpiece, stretching upwards like a shimmering pillar of light. His built body resonated with the color of the window, tempting me again to go to him and wrap my arms around him and remain there forever.
But I resisted that urge.
"Nonsense, you hurt me!!!" he turned around, looking deep into my eyes with a strange face. No, I've not seen him with that look before. I stared at him for a while, tears finding a channel down my face.
Walking towards me gently, "I mated you last night because I needed you back, please accept me, let's turn the hand of time. I promise to be by your side this time, I know I don't deserve you, no, not at all, but please help me to love you, to make things right." He stretched his hands towards me, slowly like one who was trying to get close to a venomous python, his eyes fixed on me.
He finally reached my hand, holding it.
But briefly.
Eyes locked on his, I struggled my hands away from him. "Get away from me. You made a lot of sense when you said that you don't deserve me, and yes you don't!!! "
" Why so hard on me?" he was getting heated up now, his face getting red.
" All I did I did to attract your love, and to get it back, I attended a gathering of evil looking vampires, swallowing my hatred for them, and I get this attitude from you? This is despicable," he said amidst gritting teeth.
" Oh, you're now claiming to be the victim," I said, nodding my head slowly, "well, let's see where his ends..."
"Sapphire, stop all this act, let's work this out, we're mates now, remember?" He stretched his right hand towards me in an attempt at holding my hands.
"Oh, just let him, Sapphira, he's truly sorry," Enya chipped in.
" Enya!! let me handle this," I growled.
" Look, Jason, we are not compatible, this thing," I paused, pointing back and forth between me and him, " this thing between us is not working out."
I folded my hands on my chest, moving towards the beautiful polished window. The glass itself was crystal clear, with a subtle tint that filtered out harsh UV rays while maintaining the vibrant colors of the outside world. Tears flowed freely down my eyes as I gathered my reflection on the window surface. All the past events in my life started resurfacing, my past with Andre, Father's confession, all these came flickering through my mind. I touched the surface of the glass window. Tears came down unstopped.
"What can I do, Sapphire, tell me, anything," I heard his voice from behind.
" Leave me." Tears choked my words. Then I heard footsteps towards me.
"You know I can't leave you, I just can't . I'm bonded to you, I can't have peace without you, " he paused, wrapping his hands around me.
"Why me? Why?" I said amidst tears, resting my head on his bare chest. I felt his warm body all over me. I felt like my heart was being torn into two. I was in the forgiving process but the pain he made me go through still remained. At first his touch felt suffocating, I wanted to push him away, screaming at him simultaneously, making him to understand how much he hurt me, but he just held me, wrapping his body all over me.
"Sapphire, I'm real this time, please forgive me, I'll make things this time," he whispered to my ears. His warmth seeped into my skin and I felt my defenses crumbling.
I felt so vulnerable, so exposed. My body was shaking, tears streaming down my face.
"Please Jason, just let me be, I've had enough of life already, I want to be alone. "
" You can't be alone Sapphire, no you can't," he planted a kiss on my head.
" I am alone, I've always been alone, then I met you, I trusted you with my heart, my past, and my body, yet what did I get in return? pain, pain and pain. I'll never trust.... again,"
" No, Sapphire, don't say that. I've been wrong to you, I know and I accept it. but please," he paused, planting another kiss on my head. "Don't close your heart to love, don't close it to affection."
I felt trapped between love and hurt, between forgiveness and anger.
