Chapter 43

A week before the wedding Mel starting feeling sick. The ladies went out for lunch just after she and her brides’ maids went for their dressers. Liz and Maria didn’t join them for lunch as they had more things to go and take care of. The builders were busy with Maria’s house but she still didn’t know what to expect.

Mel are you okay sis? Al ask.

I don’t know if it’s something I ate but I really don’t feel well she reply.

You need to check it out before you fall sick on your wedding sis Al says.

I think I’m just overwhelmed with all the arrangements and the wedding that’s a week away.

Sis I still think you need to see a doctor Al says.

I will if I feel sick again promise Mel says and got into the car to meet Ethan at home.

She got there and parked the car and went straight in.

Ethan was not at home as yet so Mel sat in the lounge but started feeling sick again. She ran to the guest bathroom and was sick in the toilet. Ethan walked in and saw her bag on the couch but didn’t see her. He called her several times and finally she had the strength to answer him while sitting on the floor in the bathroom. Ethan knocked on the door but Mel was so weak that she couldn’t answer him. He then finally decided to open the door and was shocked to see her on the bathroom floor.

Baby what happened? Why are you on the floor he asked and picked her up.

I’m not well she says and Ethan rushed her out by the front door and into the car.

Where we going? she asked.

I’m taking you to the hospital he replies.

But why? She asks.

Because you don’t feel well baby he says and kept on driving.

Mel didn’t say a work and just closed her eyes. They arrived at the hospital and he carried her inside. She had no energy and couldn’t even lift her head. Ethan was directed to take Mel into a room and the doctor and nurse started taking her vital signs.

Doctor please tell me what’s wrong with her? he asks.

Sir you need to give us time to see why she’s like this the doctor replies.

Is she allergic to anything?

Not that I know of doctor he replies.

Did she have any operations any medical history that you can tell us about? the doctor asks.

She had an operation a couple of months ago and had two broken ribs. Do you think that might be the problem doctor? Ethan ask.

I’m still not sure what is happening to her but please allow us to run some test the doctor asks.

Ethan left the room like he was instructed but couldn’t sit still.

Mr Dave Mel is in hospital. I got her on the bathroom floor. She just said that she doesn’t feel well Ethan says and sounded very emotional.

We will be there now Dave says and ended the call.

Ethan was still sitting and waiting for the doctor to tell him what’s happening when the nurse stepped out. He got up but the nurse advised that they took a blood sample and will know soon what is happening to her. Ethan couldn’t understand as this was giving him the same experience he had with his wife that passed on.

Please baby don’t leave me. I need you Mel he prayed softly.

Al, Dylan, Liz, Dave and Maria walked up to him and he got up with tears in his eyes.

How is she doing? Al ask.

I don’t know, they did some test and the nurse said that they will be able to see what’s wrong with her Ethan says.

The nurse came back but didn’t say much but that the doctor will come and speak to them soon. Everyone sat and waited for the doctor to give them some news regarding Mel’s condition.

Finally, the doctor walked out. He looked at Ethan with a very concern face. Ethan got up and was even more concern now.

Sir Melissa is doing much better now the doctor says.

Thank you doctor but what caused her to feel so sick and without energy? Ethan ask still very concern.

Sir you have someone that you need to look after because she is carrying your babies the doctor says.

What? Ethan ask.

Everyone else came closer.

Mel is expecting twins’ sir the doctor says.

Ethan was still very shocked but everyone else was so over joyed.

Sir she would like to see you the doctor says before he leaves.

Ethan Mel wants to see you Dave says.

Oh oh yes he says and ran into the room.

Mel was laying down on the bed with her eyes close.

Baby, he says and she opened her eyes with a smile.

How are you feeling? He asks.

As if a truck drove over me she replies but I guess kit’s all worth it.

They both smiled and Ethan looked at her with some concern in his eyes.

Baby? He says.

Yes love she replies.

But you were not ready to have any kids and now we having two more?

My love this is our kids and I love the idea of carting your babies she says and he smiled.

But I have one more question he says.

How did this happen? You took that pill so many times and I hated the idea but I didn’t want to force you.

I think I forgot to use it in the times when I had to design houses for our clients.

Are you telling me that you forgot to take the pill about five weeks ago? he asks.

I think so love because our babies is five weeks old she says.

Wow what a wonderful gift you’ve given me baby. I am really so, so blessed to have you in my life Ethan says while the tears are rolling down his cheeks.

Mel also got teary just to see how much he appreciates her and their unborn babies.

There was a knock on the door and both of them looked up. Al came in and everyone else followed. Ethan got up and wiped his eyes like a little baby but Mel found him so irresistible.

How you feeling my child? Dave asks.

I’m okay dad just a bit tired Mel replies.

We won’t stay long so that you can rest okay Dave says and Mel smiled.

Mel I’m so happy for you and Ethan. Two babies wow, that’s really a blessing.

Are you guys going to postpone the wedding now? Al ask.

Never Mel says and Ethan agreed.

Besides everything has been arranged already Ethan says. I think you are officially off duty when it comes to the wedding arrangements.

Everything is basically done accept for the cake tasting Liz says.

Mom I can really go and do that Mel says and everyone laughed.

Sure you can sis. You can’t wait to taste that cake.

Guys I’m eating for the twins not even for myself she says and they laughed some more.

The nurse came in and advised that Mel needs to rest and everyone left except Ethan.

He made himself comfy on the couch in the room and watched television.

Baby I’m hungry Mel says and he jumped up.

What would you like to eat sweetheart? He asked.

I would love some pasta please she says and looked at him with baby eyes.

You can stop looking at me like that I will get you what you want love he says.

But I want the pasta that Maggie makes she says.

Maggie is his chef.

I will call her now and she can send it with one of the guard’s okay. He says.

Thank you baby she says and closed her eyes.

Mel fell into a deep sleep and was woken when the food arrived. She got up to go to the restroom and then came back to bed.

Here is your food my lady Ethan says and gave her some soup as well.

I told Maggie about your condition and she can’t wait to spoil you every day with healthy but lovely food. She made you some soup as well Ethan says.

That’s so kind of her Mel says and tasted the soup. Wow this is so delicious Mel says and finished the bowl of soup. She then ate her plate of pasta and went back to sleep. Ethan was smiling thinking to himself that his wife to be is going to love food for the remaining eight months but he doesn’t mind at all.

The following day Mel went home and the kids was very happy to see her.

Mommy what happened to you? I heard grandpa say that you were in hospital to aunty Olivia Mike says.

I’m doing much better baby she replies and looked at Ethan.

Mike how would you feel about a little baby sister or brother Ethan ask.

That would be awesome Mike says with a smile.

Now mommy is expecting twins just like you and Cindy Ethan says.

Does that make me a big sister? Cindy ask.

Yes my princess and you my prince is a big brother Ethan says.

The kids giggled and both kissed Mel’s tummy.

I’m really happy that the kids took the news so well love Ethan says.

That’s true but I had no doubt that they will love you as their father Mel says when they were finally alone.

Ethan insisted that Mel sleeps at his house after the doctor said that he had to watch her. They even considered changing the venue and have the wedding at his house but Liz was not happy with that idea.
