Chapter 79 The Dark Room
Chapter 79 The Dark Room
Elena Pov
The car drove speedily through the road, but the silence and tension made me unable to sit still.
I kept throwing glances at the person who had come to pick me up, but just like the rest of Marcus’s men, his face didn’t give away anything.
I wanted to ask him questions, but the words wouldn’t leave my lips.
Finally, I gave up and just tapped my screen, though I didn’t even know what I was doing.
What is going on?
This was the first time I had received a message like this, and to be honest, I had been scared. I had thought it was a scam message, but something kept eating me up, and I couldn’t even continue the conversation with Sean. I had to excuse myself and rush towards the entrance of the school. And it was only when I saw the familiar car and unique license number that I believed the message had truly come from Marcus’s butler.
But… what could be going on?
I-Is it Marcus? He couldn’t have been hurt, right?
My heart tightened at the thought alone. But then, I shook my head heavily…
No. How could a powerful person like Marcus be hurt? Besides… he had many powerful guards surrounding him.
But… if it isn’t that, then what could the problem be?
My heart kept pounding, and my fingers tightened around the phone.
20 mins later, the car finally drove into the familiar estate, then stopped in front of a large and strong wall which was painted black.
The car waited for a second, then a light flashed from the wall and covered the car.
I didn’t panic like the first time I came here with my father. Instead, I sat up straight and allowed the light to scan the inside of the car.
Soon, the wall separated, and a gate appeared, which the driver drove through.
The moment I climbed down from the car, I felt chills run down my spine. My brows furrowed as I scanned the familiar place I had stayed in for months. Though there weren’t any changes, but… why do I feel cold?
My instinct has never been wrong.
The moment I came down from the car, it felt like many eyes locked on me.
My eyes darkened slightly, but just as I was lost in my thoughts, fast footsteps interrupted me.
I looked up sharply, and my eyes quivered as I saw who it was.
Wasn’t it that smiling but dangerous guard of Marcus?
Nexus.
But somehow, the man who had always smiled now had a serious expression on his face, and this made me even more suspicious.
“Miss Elena.”
He called the moment he stopped in front of me.
My eyes quivered slightly, but I forced a smile onto my face and nodded at him.
“Hello.”
His face became even more serious. “Miss Elena. I was the one who texted you using the butler’s phone.”
My heart skipped.
“I asked you to come back because…” he paused. “…Master had asked me to call you back.”
My stomach twisted into a tight knot, and my fingers turned cold.
Marcus had asked him to call me back?!
No. This is even more strange.
My fingers slowly curled. I gulped, then stared at Nexus, though I couldn’t hide the panic in my eyes.
“W-What’s going on? Where is he? Is he injured? I—”
“Miss Elena.”
The remaining questions died in my throat at the interruption. I stared at Nexus, my heart pounding heavily.
Silence settled between us.
One second passed.
Then another.
Even the air between us felt heavy. Finally, a sigh slipped from his lips.
My heart jumped.
Then Nexus shifted slightly and pointed towards the entrance of the house.
“I think you should find out for yourself, Miss Elena.”
His jaw tightened. “Please.”
I stood there, my mind blank.
I looked at the house he pointed at, then at him.
C-Could it be that I’m correct? Marcus is injured?
Blood rushed to my brain at this point. I didn’t even bother thinking much. I took off towards the house.
I almost slipped on the stairs leading to the entrance, but I caught myself and kept running.
Bang!
The door locked so loudly behind me, but I didn’t even care about that. All I could think of was getting to Marcus.
He was injured…
The whole house was silent. No footsteps. No voices. Nothing. The silence only made my heart pound harder.
I ran through the sitting room, then rushed up the stairs, climbing two or three at a time.
I couldn’t even care less about my safety.
The moment I reached the upstairs, I ran straight to the door which I had memorized—Marcus’s room.
Standing in front of the door, my heart began pounding so heavily that I thought it was about to burst out of my chest.
Without even bothering to knock, I placed my hand on the lock and twisted it open.
My eyes lit up immediately when the door cracked open.
It’s actually open?!
I had only wanted to try my luck, and even thought of going back to Nexus to look for the keys.
I took a deep breath, then finally pushed the door with strength, but I stumbled in.
Bang!
The door locked behind me, giving me a start.
I glanced at the door, then back inside the room, but was startled again by how dark the room was.
My body froze instantly.
I tried to look around, but I could see nothing. Not even my own hands.
W-What is going on?
Didn’t Nexus say Marcus was in his room? So why—
The room was so silent. So dark, and for a moment, it felt like I had entered the devil’s home. It felt like the darkness was pressing against my skin, swallowing every sound around me.
My body shivered just thinking about it.
Just then, I shook my head heavily.
What nonsense are you thinking about, Elena?!
Darn—You should be worrying about the man you love at this point.
I took a deep breath. Then prepared to find the switch in the room. Just then—
My nose twitched slightly.
What’s with the scent—
At first, it was only a faint trace.
So faint that I almost thought I had imagined it.
I didn’t even finish my thought when the familiar scent came rushing in heavily.
My breathing became heavy. My throat rolled.
H-How could it be?!
“M…Marcus?!”
I called out, now looking around the still-dark room.
“Marcus, where are you?!” I cried out again, but unconsciously inhaled the heavy scent of mint.
My mouth went dry, and my pulse slammed against my ribs.
What the hell is going on?!
How could Marcus’s pheromones be so heavy in the room, and why wasn’t he answering me?!
This time, if I didn’t realize something was wrong, then I’m a fool.
My brain screamed for me to leave, but… my heart… my legs… they couldn’t move at all.
Panic set in. And the darkness made it even worse.
“Marcus?”
My voice came out carefully, but also hoarse. But what responded to me was silence. Not even the sound of breathing reached my ears.
I gulped. Then, with trembling fingers, I reached into my pocket to bring out my phone. But—
I froze.
My heart slowed down, my lips parted slightly, and my eyes went wide in shock.
The mint scent suddenly became stronger.
So strong that it surrounded me from every direction.
My chest heaved heavily as I felt the familiar hot breath close to my neck.
My fingers slowly curled, and my breathing became louder when the hot breath trailed up to stop by my ear.
Slowly, the breathing became louder.
Heavier.
Closer.
Before I could even react, an arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me back.
“Urgh.”
A whimper slid from my lips as my back hit a strong chest.
My lips began to tremble, but no words could be formed. Then a satisfied sigh echoed through the quiet room.
“Smell… so good….”
