Chapter 69 Meeting Major Henry
Chapter 69 Meeting Major Henry

The private jet flew through the sky. Inside, no one spoke, and everyone concentrated on their work. I sat by the window with a cigarette between my fingers, my eyes fixed on the tablet in my hand. The screen shone faintly in the cabin as I checked page after page again, searching for more information that could help, but none of them told me where James was.
My lips pursed in a tight line. The tablet nearly bent under the pressure of my grip before my fingers slowly loosened again. I flipped to another page, but still nothing. It was like some information was being purposely hidden, and this filled me with more suspicion.
My jaw tightened. I leaned back and narrowed my eyes into empty space.
Across the cabin sat the elite team led by Nexus. Every one of them was an SS+ Alpha. They were soldiers recognized and feared by countless people. Yet, now, they sat quietly, and none dared to make a sound. Even their breathing seemed lighter than usual.
Amanda had returned to the company since someone had to keep things running while I handled this matter myself.
Slowly, I looked back at the file, my brows furrowed slightly.
I should have paid more attention to the situation back there.
Back then, when James insisted he could handle everything himself, I should have stopped him and insisted he stay while I took care of things. But now… The chance to stop him had already slipped through my fingers.
My eyes narrowed as a trail of a smoke drifted upward. The scattered clues in my head suddenly began fitting together like broken pieces.
When I first heard that he had successfully completed the research, I had been surprised but not alarmed. James had always been a genius, which is why the country valued him so much. Though he was only a Beta, he achieved what even most Alphas couldn’t.
But one thing I underestimated was human greed. In this world, energy decided status, power, and survival. A single breakthrough in rank was enough to make people lose their minds.
Imagine an Omega becoming an Alpha? Who wouldn’t want that?
Enough people would kill for that chance so I understand the danger he James was in.
My thoughts scattered, and the cabin grew colder with each passing second. Just then, the faint sound of footsteps interrupted my thoughts.
I turned my head only to see Nexus, who was walking toward me with a tablet in his hand. The moment my dark gaze landed on him, he immediately straightened.
For a brief moment, neither of us spoke. Then, he cleared his throat and showed the screen of the tablet to me. His fingers tightened around the edge of the tablet before he finally opened his mouth.
“Master… I found something about Major Henry Hart’s family,” he said, his voice serious.
My expression remained calm as I took the tablet from him, then nodded at him to continue.
Nexus released a quiet breath before continuing. “I just found out that the old patriarch of the Hart family is critically ill. According to our sources, he may not survive much longer.”
I didn’t blink. I didn’t even react. Instead, my gaze remained on the screen.
Nexus snorted, his voice mocking. “The entire Hart family has been thrown into chaos, and the children and grandchildren are already competing for the position of the successor.”
This time, I finally raised my head. A faint sneer touched my lips.
So… that was it.
Everything suddenly looked far less like coincidence.
The Hart family stood at the center of the country’s military power. Not only did generations of soldiers come from their bloodline, but the family also controlled elite special forces that answered only to the leader.
Light flashed through my eyes.
Now… with the old patriarch nearing death, every heir would want to gain an advantage. And power created ambition.
Sigh.
I leaned back in my seat and stared through the window at the endless sea of clouds. My fingers tapped lightly against my knee, creating a tense atmosphere, but I didn’t notice.
Tap.
Tap.
Tap.
Even Nexus stayed motionless, listening to the steady rhythm echo through the silent cabin.
Come to think of it, if Major Henry wanted to strengthen his position, James’s research would certainly attract his attention.
But that alone wasn’t proof. Still, I couldn’t rule out the possibility that it involved Major Henry, as the timing was just too convenient.
James disappeared, then Henry appeared in the city he didn’t frequent. Also, military personnel searched James’s residence. One clue meant little, two could still be luck. But three? They all led to Major Henry!
So, whether Henry held James or not, I intended to find out myself. Well, I wasn’t scared of offending anyone, even if that person was the first son of the powerful Hart family.
My eyes darkened.
The Hart family could fight over its inheritance all they wanted. It had nothing to do with me. But if anyone laid a hand on the people under my protection…
My blood surged, and my fingers crushed the cigarette in my hand.
They shouldn’t blame me for taking action!
Hours later, the pilot’s voice broke the silence.
“We’ve arrived, Master.”
I snapped my head up, then turned to look out of the window. From here, I could still see the clear view of a building from afar.
Coldness flashed across my eyes, but just as quickly, they returned to their calmness.
Finally, I stood up and, with one hand, I adjusted the collar of my gray shirt before slipping on my dark black robe. The fabric settled over my shoulders as I walked toward the exit.
The cabin door opened.
Cold wind rushed inside as I descended the stairs without any hurry and with one of my hands in my pocket.
On both sides of the stairs stood my elite guards. They lined up in silence with weapons at their sides, and none of them spoke as they followed behind me.
Ahead stood Henry’s private estate.
The mansion rose behind towering walls. The lights were turned on as if welcoming me, and I could see the armed guards patrolling every entrance.
Somehow, my eyes flickered into the distance in the dark, and my lips curled into an indifferent smile.
Good. It seemed they knew about my coming. But I had also never intended to hide my movements.
As if I didn’t see the guns pointed at me from within the darkness, I continued to walk down, an aura of coldness and arrogance emitting from me. Several guards unconsciously tightened their grips on their weapons as I approached, but none stepped forward.
Before I could even reach the last step, a man dressed as a military butler walked forward and bowed respectfully toward me.
“Welcome to our residence, Master Stone.” He kept his head lowered. “Major Hart is waiting for you inside.”
I studied him without replying. My dark but overly calm eyes took in every one of his expressions.
Slowly, the butler’s shoulders grew stiffer beneath my gaze, and the calmness he had kept began to crack.
Several seconds passed before I looked past him toward the mansion. Somehow, I could feel a dangerous gaze on me.
The fingers inside my pocket curled, but with calmness, I stepped down.
The butler, who seemed to have recovered quickly extended his hand toward the entrance.
“This way, please.”
I said nothing, and with Nexus and the others falling into formation behind me, I walked forward.
It was like I felt no danger from the hidden snipers.
(The habit of tapping was taken from my brother 😂 I just love it.)
