Chapter 62 Escalation: The Meeting 2
Chapter 62 Escalation: The Meeting 2
Marcus Pov
“Manager Amanda, what do you mean by this?!” the female assistant of the mayor reproached.
Amanda scoffed, and I just knew she was getting ready for battle.
Even though I only paid half attention, I could hear the rustling sound of papers being thrown onto the table.
“You understand what I mean,” Amanda continued. “The goods you want from us would cost almost 5 billion dollars, and you actually only want to pay 30%? Just because we want information about some foreigners who illegally entered the city?! Do you take this as a joke?!”
“But—”
Amanda cut off the assistant’s words. She looked at the silent mayor directly, then spoke.
“Mayor Francis, is this also your decision?”
The room turned quieter, and all eyes focused on the obese mayor.
He sat down, arrogance oozing from his whole being, but I could feel his gaze landing on me every second.
I didn’t raise my head. Instead, my legs remained crossed, and my finger began to tap on my knee, impatience oozing out from me.
As if he had confirmed I wasn’t paying him any attention, the mayor chuckled. His loud and clear voice, which couldn’t hide its arrogance, echoed in the room.
“Well, as my assistant had said, this is dangerous for me, so we aren’t asking for too much. Especially when you also need Dr. Reese’s information too. Remember, Dr. Reese James is an S-class researcher, and his information is kept tight.”
“Oh… I see.” Amanda snorted. But just as she was about to continue, the tapping on my knee paused.
Slowly, I uncrossed my legs, then without looking at anyone, I stood up.
The room fell silent. They all held their breath, and all eyes instantly focused on me, including the armed guards of the mayor, who straightened.
My indifferent eyes trailed from the assistants, who trembled, then to the mayor, whose nervousness could be seen, and finally to the guards at the entrance.
Sneers flashed in my eyes.
Did they think if I wanted to kill the mayor now, those tiny guns could stop me?
Stupid.
In the silent room, I slid out another cigarette, then lit it. I inhaled it deeply, then let the smoke blur my face, giving me a more mysterious feeling.
Then, without a word, I swung my long dark robe and began to walk toward the entrance.
Behind me, I heard chairs drag across the floor, and I knew it was both my managers.
I didn’t even look back or give the mayor a glance. I continued walking toward the entrance, my steps steady and calm, my aura cold but filled with dominance.
But suddenly, as I was about to reach the entrance, the sound of another chair scraping the ground echoed, then the heavy breathing of the mayor followed.
“Alpha Marcus, what do you mean by this?!”
Just then, my feet came to a pause.
I looked at the door, impatience on my face, but still, I responded to him good-naturedly.
“Mayor Francis, the plan will continue as it is. 55/45.”
“What?!”
I frowned at the interruption but continued.
“You’ll pay 45% for the arms and also provide every information I need. Every one of them.”
Without even waiting for a response, I continued walking. But—
“Alpha Marcus, are you looking down on me?!”
The anger in his voice echoed through the room, but all it did was make the silence around me colder.
Just as the angry growl sounded, the guards at the entrance raised their guns and pointed them at me.
But at the same time, the sound of another gun cocking echoed just behind me. I knew immediately it was Lexus, who had also pointed his gun at the mayor.
The tension in the room surged.
I looked at the guns pointed at me silently.
A second passed… then another… then—
Laughter rang out, breaking the silence. The laughter, though, didn’t sound joyful but terrifying.
The guards became even more vigilant. One of them shook, his face filled with nervousness.
“It’s been so long since I got threatened by a gun provided by me.”
My eyes curved as I grinned again. Slowly, I turned, then looked at the mayor, who stood tense but was still trying to be brave.
Suddenly, my eyes sharpened.
“You’re so arrogant,” I muttered, low and dangerously.
The temperature in the room dropped.
I lowered my head and let the cigarette drop to the ground, then I stepped on it and squashed it under the sole of my shoe.
“Francis—”
The next words were already on the tip of my tongue, and I could feel every person in the room waiting for them
Ring!! Ring!!
The sound of my phone cut me off, making my mood even worse.
I frowned slightly.
Who the hell would call my personal phone at this time?!
My lips tightened, and without caring about the gazes around me, I dug out the phone, but at the sight of the caller ID, my eyes constricted.
My fist tightened around the phone. My heart skipped a beat. For the first time, I hesitated over something, but still, I clicked the answer button.
I didn’t need to speak. The person on the other side already did.
“Hello? Is this student Elena Geese’s guardian?” she asked. Then continued, “Well, can you please visit the college today? Your daughter ran into some trouble, and you’re needed.”
(Well, they are about to meet🥹 But, did they just call Elena his daughter? 😂)
