Chapter 9 Brothers
Prince taunted me while sitting in my kitchen and drinking my coffee.
"Prince, if you should mention the L in Lisa, I'm going to throw you out of my house."
The reply I got from the bastard was a taunting chuckle.
"So she really beat you at your own game? Wow! I mean, I wasn't expecting any less from someone with her level of skill."
I poured myself a cup of Coffee and settled opposite him on the kitchen island.
"But how come I never knew she was attending my school?"
"Do you even know about her existence?"
"Of course not, you said it yourself, the two daughters of the family are kept away from the public eye but they fooled us all by making us think they were raising them to be mafia princesses, not bloody assassins that'd take a life without a second thought."
"Good that you know that."
"But you're in charge of my security Prince, we should have known that she was attending my school."
"What if I knew?" he threw it in the air casually and I didn't doubt him, not even in the slightest bit.
That was Prince Chen for you, a fucking genius in anything security. He was the only son of dad's most trusted ally so he practically grew up within the Ivanov family and now, he was 23 and the CEO
of the C47 best security company in the country, one that was affiliated with our family's mafia.
"Did I mention that she's an IT genius?"
"Are you interested in her?" I drawled, "you can't seem to bring yourself to stop talking about her."
"If she wasn't the daughter of an enemy," he ignored my comment, "I'd have scouted her into C47 and made her into the next best thing in security after me."
"Don't you ever get tired of bragging?"
"It's not bragging if it's a fact."
God! I rubbed my forehead because of the headache Prince's presence always seemed to cause.
"Can you please get lost?"
"Not getting lost for a couple of days. You're stuck with me."
God!
"But Prince, I mean, what are you always doing here? Why would you leave the comfort of your luxurious penthouse to come and bother me in this tiny apartment?"
"You call this mansion," he gestured towards the whole interior of the house, "a tiny apartment?"
"Well, compared to living in the most luxurious penthouse in the city, it's really a tiny apartment."
"And guess who owns the penthouse in the building?"
I shot him a hard glare.
"Yes, that's right about that, the guy sitting across from me. When are you ever going to move back into the apartment?"
"When I'm done with schooling. You can't possibly expect me to be commuting that distance every day to school."
"Exactly, why are you going to school?"
"Because I need to get a degree?" I threw it back at him.
"Yeah, why do you need to get a degree? You need a degree to take lives?"
God! I flung the nearest object at him which was a humidifier and he caught it effortlessly.
Without breaking a sweat.
"Are you trying to kill me?"
"Don't do things that are liable to get you killed?"
"Wow, I'm scared, somebody send help."
I eyed him with thorough and absolute disdain.
"You're really a lot case."
He shrugged nonchalantly.
"And you have behaviors totally unbefitting of C47. Do your clients know this is how you are in real life? Or do they think you're this aloof and successful 23-year-old genius?"
"If you're asking me if I leave my clients satisfied, then you don't have to worry about that, I'm the best at my job."
I hissed under my breath.
"Just how you leave your girls satisfied, right? The banging noise and loud screams kept me up all night. Please stop bringing girls over to fuck in my place and if you have to, don't bring a screamer,
they're too loud."
"Screamers are good, make you know you're getting it right."
"Even if their screams are fake? Even if they're faking it?"
A self-satisfied smile bloomed on his face, "faking their screams and pleasures is one thing a girl can't do with me. If they scream so much from the roof cave, I made them do that."
"Girls are good at faking that shit."
"They can't fake it with me, you'll know if you've seen me in the bedroom but no problem, I can call you to watch next time."
God! My skin crawled with so much irritation and disgust at the irrationality of the guy opposite me but I've learned to take him like that.
We grew up together and we've grown to be more of brothers than friends. I didn't need to doubt that he was capable of dying for me just like I wouldn't think twice before killing him.
Something I've never and will never share with someone I call my blood.
Our phones pinged at the same time and we exchanged a glance before picking them up.
My blood surged and anticipation and adrenaline thrummed in my veins at the message.
And maybe a little bit of alien feeling that was mixed with fear and maybe dread which was surprising because I was supposed to be alien to these feelings but this was a buddy we were talking about and no matter how deep what he had cut, he was at one point, someone I considered my buddy.
"They caught him," Prince announced as he threw his phone back on the island, his voice a bit somber because he understood that this wasn't just a case of catching a traitor and treating their fuck
ups, "and they've taken him to base 1."
"Yeah, I got the message."
"Do you want me to come with you?"
"Of course not, Prince, you've excelled at your job, now, lemme shine at mine."
"Yes yes, I trust you'll be able to get it out of him."
"Have I ever failed?" I threw over my shoulders as I climbed the stairs in fours to get ready.
