Chapter 16
“First I’ll acknowledge, our trust has been broken.”
- Recovery by Justin Bieber
- 4 days later -
I woke up in the same forest but now I was wet and the ground was wet too. It was very early in the morning, judging by the chirping birds and the morning fog. I tried to get up but my body was so stiff and my muscles were still aching. My body was shivering from the cold and I was butt naked on the floor. I tried to sit up again, and I did it, although it was painful. Groaning as I sat up and I ran my fingers through my tangled, messy and wet hair. My fingers got tangled in the knots and I jerked hard on it. I groaned and transformed back into my wolf.
I stood up on all four of my paws and walked deeper into the woods. I was limping a little and I wasn't really a fan of it. I continued limping deeper into the forest. I saw a stream ahead and slowly limped towards it. As I reached it, I started drinking the stream water. It looked clean enough. After I finished drinking, I jumped in the stream, still in wolf form, and started paddling around. I was trying to clean myself, but I guess I just got myself wet instead of actually cleaning myself. After paddling around for a few minutes, I climbed out of the water and shook my fur out so that I wouldn't weigh so much as I limped.
I heard rustling to the side and I stopped limping. I stayed as still as I could, looking around. After a few seconds of the rustling of the bushes, I saw a cute little baby crawl out of the bush. The baby boy only had a diaper on, leaves in his hair, and was giggling cutely.
I walked closer to the baby and sniffed the baby. It smelt like a werewolf's child. I transformed back into my human and picked up the baby. "Hey. Where're your parents?" I asked as the baby wrapped its arms around my neck and giggled. I laughed at his cuteness and I hugged him closer to me. For some weird reason, the baby made me feel safe and happy. I needed to know whether the baby had parents here or not. I sniffed around and saw something white on the floor. I moved closer and read the white piece of paper.
'Please keep him safe, you can name him anything you want.
I promise that this is not a trick. Whoever you are, please keep him safe and take care of him.
I hope you'll take care of him and love him. Thank you so much.'
"Is anyone here?" I said out loud after reading the note. No one answered me so I put the baby back on the ground, shifted into my wolf, and nudged the baby with my snout. The baby giggled and I pick it up with my teeth by his diaper and started limping back towards the lighter part of the forest, which hopefully would lead me back to the pack. After a few hours of limping and dangling the baby by his diaper, I finally reached a place where it looked like where I woke up. I limped faster and saw the clearing, where I jumped out of the window. The window was closed now and there were wolves everywhere, surrounding the house. They saw me and growled. A big black wolf approached me and walked around me in circles as he looked at me and the baby.
'State your name, business, and age.' He said into my mind as I put the baby down on his butt.
'Scarlett Davis, I came back for no reason at all,' I said trying to not show fear. The wolf snorted and then trotted away into the house. I looked at the other wolves and shrugged my shoulder, carrying the baby again and walking into the house myself. I ran up the stairs until I reached the attic room and put the baby on the bed. I closed the door behind me, ran into my bathroom, and shifted inside. Once I shifted, I fell to the ground as my legs gave way. My back leg just hurt so much. I looked at it and found it bleeding so fast that there was already a small puddle of blood there.
I turned on the tap that sprouted cold water and started bathing, still sitting on the floor. I looked as the blood washed away down the drain, and as the blood flowed away, my wound came into sight. It was like someone took some hot metal and burned and marked my leg. There was a huge X over an L on my left ankle. Specifically on the bone that was jutting out slightly. It looked like the L was being slashed out by the X. It made me curious about the mark, it was so painful that I almost couldn't walk or move at all. I turned off the tap and grabbed a towel, standing up on one leg. After wiping the water off, I put on a hoodie and a pair of loose sweatpants that I found stuffed into the broken cupboard under the sink. After putting my clothes on, I limped out of the bathroom and went back into the room, finding the baby sleeping soundly on the bed. I limped nearer to him and gently shook him. I had to change and bathe him, he was quite filthy. The baby turned and clung onto my hand tightly.
'What should I do?' I asked my wolf.
'Let him sleep, he's exhausted.' She said and I nodded silently. I looked down to my left ankle to see that the L had changed into a half moon sign. I lifted my left ankle closer to me, wincing as I did, and looked at the sign closely.
'What is that on my leg?' I asked my wolf urgently.
'It's something bad. The half moon means Luna, the X means crossed out. Like no longer a Luna or something.' She said and I gasped. I couldn't breathe, I didn't know what was happening. No longer a Luna? That's not possible, is it?
"Moon Goddess, please I need your help," I said out, and then suddenly there was a knock on my door. I slowly let go of the baby's hand and limped my way to the door. A figure came into my room and closed the door behind her.
She was in the same outfit as I saw her in my illusion. Her hair was a little longer and she looked quite exhausted. "You called for me." She said, looking me up and down.
"Yeah, I wanted your help," I said and limped to the bed. I propped my left ankle up slowly and showed it to the Moon Goddess. She examined it with furrowed brows and sat down next to me. "My wolf says it means something like no longer a Luna," I said, sighing loudly. The Moon Goddess looked at me.
"None of the Luna's have this mark. Even if they are no longer a Luna. It's like tattooed into your skin."
"I guess that I'm the only Luna who got rejected and got accepted back, and then got cheated on," I said, laughing humorlessly.
"I'll have to ask what he thinks about it and aw, that's a cute baby." She said, looking at the baby.
"Yeah, I found him in the woods. Everything seems so different around me. How long was I sleeping in the forest?"
"Four days, and I know his name. His parents died in a rogue attack. His name is Sean Jacobs. He's one year old already."
"Wow. Four days and Sean, the name suits him. The rogue attack in the forest? Why didn't anyone know about it?"
"His parents were rogues too." She said looking at me and I nodded quietly. She stood up and walked towards the door. "I have to go now. He's coming up. Get ready Scarlett." I laughed.
"I'm actually interested to see what shit he'll be telling me." She smiled and looked into my eyes.
"Fight for yourself, Scarlett. Maybe one more time?" I nodded and looked at the baby beside me.
Maybe I'll fight for both of us.
