Chapter 34 Chapter Thirty Four
I looked at Mordechai and saw how shocked he was. I had the same expression as well because I had no clue why she was here. And Mordechai definitely didn't invite her.
Or did he?
Tiffany, what are you doing here?" he asked aggressively, but she only smirked and stepped closer to him.
I stepped back, glaring at her with utter annoyance. A pang of sadness washed over me as I watched her drape her hands over his shoulders. She knew I was standing there, yet she did it anyway.
Mordechai was just silent as he allowed her to touch him all over.
But why wouldn't he? They were together.
"Why are you so angry? Aren't you happy to see me? My dad is a part of the meeting so I have to accompany him. After all, I'm his only child," was her reply.
Mordechai's face went stern as he untangled her hands from around his neck. He walked past her and into the elevator.
I followed after him and watched as the door closed. I stood on the left as I tried to feel better. There was something going on with me that I didn't understand.
Why did her having her arms around him bothers me so much? There was no way I was jealous.
It was impossible.
"Vanessa, I didn't invite her " he said gently. I slowly looked at him.
"And so what? I don't care what you do. It's your life and you're the boss. You can do whatever you want... with whoever you want."
The last part wasn't me but it came out anyways. No more words were exchanged after that and we waited until the elevator came to a stop.
The door opened and I allowed him to take the lead. I walked behind him as I took out my small notebook and pen. I could see through the glass walls and I saw the huge table and the men who were surrounding it.
I sighed as Mordechai opened the door and I went in after. It was so silent and uncomfortable.
I noticed how the men's assistants were standing behind them. I caught sight of Mordechai's father who's face seemed as if the world has ended and he was the cause of it.
He was so intimidating.
Once Mordechai was seated I stood behind him as I waited for anything. His father stood up before going towards the huge screen and touched it.
A blueprint of a building came up and some of the men seemed intrigued. I watched as the one in the white suit took out his phone and started typing away.
Was that even allowed.
Mordechai glanced over his shoulder at me for a few seconds before turning back around. I exhaled as his father started talking.
"What I have here is an empire that will begin to construct by the end of the month. My son will be married soon and will be the heir to it."
The assistants stepped to one side and I followed. I got a full look at Mordechai and he seemed like he wanted to do nothing more than leave the meeting.
He was irritated and was biting his lip harshly. His dad was planning all of this without his consent I could definitely tell. It was none of my business but...
"Finally you're back," the man in the white suit said as Tiffany entered the room.
Mordechai didn't spare her a glance and instead looked at me. His eyes seemed soft for a few seconds before they got hard as his father started talking again.
"I want you gentlemen to be a part of it also because it will be beneficiary. And-
"-What if your son isn't married by time the empire finishes? We all know that a heir is needed as a sign of security because what if he abandons the duties and commitment to the empire. We would've invested everything in it for nothing. Maybe my son will be better to be the heir, after all, he's already married and has a child on the way," the man with a small moustache said looking at Mordechai displeasingly.
"He is my son and I will not give the position of heir to someone who's not family. So get that out of your head. Now is there anything else to say?" His father said. He planted his hands on the table and looked at everyone.
I took note of some of the info that was on the screen but that was it. I was too caught up in everything that was going on.
Mordechai had alot on his plate.
"Gerald is right, if your son is already in his mid twenties and not married, when will he be? If we are going to invest into this empire we need security for sure. When all of us do retire, what if he abandons the duties of the empire and what are we left with? If he's not married by the end of the year, I suggest you chose someone else."
There was silence after that.
I heard few of the assistants whispering amongst themselves but I didn't join in. I was staring at Mordechai and his stressful form. Up until now he refused to say a word. I guess I would also be unresponsive if my dad was controlling my own life.
"Okay. He has until the end of the year to get married. If he isn't by then, I will hand the heir position to your son who is already married," his father said and everyone nodded in agreement.
I felt a mixture of emotions including anger. His own father was deciding his life. I watched as Mordechai got up and walked out.
I tapped my fingers against my notebook and looked at Tiffany. She was smirking as if she knew that this was going to happen. I hated her so much. She made my blood boil. Everything about her was irritating.
As the men commence amongst themselves, I walked out and went to find him.
