Chapter 138 Killed who?
Chapter 138 Killed who?
Aria had been standing there the whole time, right where she had faced Jessie earlier. She had not moved since then. Jessie’s words kept playing in her head again and again, making her feel restless and uneasy. The fear stayed in her, refusing to go away. What if Jessie told other people? What if Dominic ended up in trouble because of it?
But something else bothered her even more.
Her past.
How did Jessie know about it?
There was no way Dominic would have told her. He was the only one who knew that story. No one else knew.
So how did Jessie find out?
From where?
From who?
Aria was too deep in her thoughts to notice someone walking up to her. A hand touched her shoulder, and she jumped.
It was Dominic.
“Aria?” he called.
Aria blinked and came back to herself. She looked at him, her eyes empty for a brief moment.
“Dominic?” she said quietly.
Dominic nodded. “Yes, it is me. Are you alright? What are you doing here?” he asked as he reached out and touched her face.
Aria nodded slowly. “I am fine. I felt bored at home, so I came here. But earlier, I saw Jessie.” She chose to be honest, and the moment she said that, Dominic went still.
“Y-you saw Jessie?” he asked, his voice showing clear unease.
Aria nodded again. “She called you last night. You were already asleep, so I picked up the call. Do you usually work that late?” Aria asked, trying to keep her voice steady even though her thoughts were still filled with worry about Jessie knowing her past.
Dominic tried to find something to say, but no words came. For a second, he just stood there.
“We should go inside first. It would not be good if Daisy comes and sees you like this.” That was all Dominic said before turning and walking into his office.
He did not notice Aria holding back tears behind him.
Aria followed him inside.
“Now that we are inside, can you explain why Jessie contacted you and why she was here so early this morning?” Aria asked. Her voice became serious.
Dominic did not answer right away. He looked at her first, then walked to his chair and sat down.
“Jessie and I are just friends. There is nothing wrong if she comes to visit me,” he said as if it meant nothing.
Aria looked at him with pain in her eyes. It felt like something inside her was breaking little by little. If that was what he called friendship, then she could do the same and still call it right.
Aria walked closer until she stood in front of his desk.
“Is Jessie your close friend?”
“You are right.”
“And is this how close friends behave here?”
Dominic stayed quiet at first. He hesitated. Then, for some reason, he nodded.
Aria gave a small nod.
“Alright. Then I will not ask again why she was here. If I see her in your office again, I will accept it. I am going home now. I do not feel well.”
She turned quickly. She knew her eyes were already filled with tears. She did not want Dominic to see her cry. She refused to look weak in front of him.
The moment she stepped out and closed the door, a quiet sob escaped her.
“Aria?” Daisy called, making her turn in surprise.
Aria quickly wiped her tears.
“What is wrong with you?” Daisy asked.
Aria shook her head. “Nothing. I am fine.” But it was clear she was not telling the truth.
“You are lying. You said we are friends, so why are you hiding things from me?”
Aria glanced at Daisy. She wanted to tell her everything. But she was afraid Daisy would start thinking badly about Dominic.
“I am fine, Daisy.”
“Does this have something to do with Jessie?”
Aria went quiet at once. She looked straight at Daisy.
“You know Jessie?” she asked, her voice breaking slightly.
Daisy thought for a moment. “I know her, but not closely. Why?”
Aria stayed silent again. She could not tell Daisy everything. Daisy did not even know Jessie well.
Aria shook her head again. “It is nothing. I am going home, Daisy.”
She walked past Daisy without looking back.
Daisy let out a breath, annoyed. It was not easy trying to talk sense into Aria. Was Aria really this blind? Could she not understand what was happening?
If Daisy could already guess that Jessie was the cause, then it meant she knew more than Aria thought.
Daisy rolled her eyes and ran after her.
“Wait!” Daisy called as she grabbed Aria’s arm. “Do you want information about Jessie?”
Aria stopped.
“Come with me,” Daisy said.
She led Aria to the rooftop. There were two long benches there, and Daisy chose the one under the shade.
“Did Dominic fool you?” Daisy asked directly.
“What do you mean?” Aria asked.
“You are too innocent, Aria. Or maybe this is not innocence. Maybe this is closer to being foolish.”
Aria felt irritation rise.
“If you brought me here just to insult me, then you can leave,” she said.
Daisy looked at her, clearly annoyed.
“Since when did you know about Jessie?”
Aria, who had been muttering under her breath, went quiet and looked at her.
“I am asking you, since when did you know about Jessie and the boss?”
“Do you know something?” Aria asked.
Daisy clicked her tongue. “Of course I do.”
“Then why did you say earlier that you did not know?”
“I never said I did not know. I said I know, but not deeply.”
Aria gave a small mocking sound.
“Fine. Then why did you bring me here?” she asked, no longer interested in wasting time.
Daisy did not answer right away. She kept her eyes on Aria without speaking.
The same question kept running through her mind. How did Aria end up with Dominic? Did she really not know who he was? Did she not know his past? Did she not know he had been married before?
“Daisy! Are you listening? If you have nothing to say, I am leaving,” Aria said as she stood, but Daisy quickly held her back.
“Before you married Dominic, did you not try to find out who he really was?”
Aria frowned. “What do you mean? Do you know about his past?”
“Not everything. But I know enough.”
“What does that have to do with Jessie?”
Daisy looked straight at her. “Do you really want to know?”
Aria nodded without hesitation.
“Alright. Jessie is Dominic’s first girlfriend. She is also his first love. She—”
“But Dominic said he never had a girlfriend before!” Aria cut in.
“Do you really believe everything a man says?” Daisy raised her voice slightly. “Especially a man like Dominic? You believed him just like that? You did not even try to find out about his past?”
“Daisy, he is your boss,” Aria said, still surprised.
“I know, and I have not forgotten that. You must be wondering why I can speak like this about my boss in front of his wife. Right?”
Aria nodded honestly.
“That is because I know you are trying to find out the truth about your husband. Right now, your mind is probably thinking about finding his old friends so you can question them one by one.”
Aria felt stunned. It felt like Daisy knew exactly what she was thinking.
She cleared her throat, trying to hold herself together.
“Do not act like you can read minds. I am not—”
“Aria, I already know what you are thinking. It is obvious you are trying to find out if your husband is cheating. Am I wrong?”
Aria went quiet for a moment. Then she let out a breath.
“You are right.”
Daisy smiled with pride. “Of course I am right.”
But that look disappeared quickly. Her face turned serious.
“That woman killed my sister.”
Aria slowly turned her head toward Daisy.
She said nothing. She only stared at Daisy, waiting.
Killed?
Killed who?
That woman?
Her sister?
What did she mean?
Daisy looked straight at Aria.
“That woman… Jessie… she is the one who killed my sister.”
