Chapter 133 You talk like you know everything. You do not
Dominic had just come back home. Home. The place he shared with his wife.
He let out a long breath as the thought sank in. Wife. The word alone made him uneasy, like something was off. Why was he even questioning it? He loved Aria, did he not? What kind of man doubts something like that?
Aria was his wife. A wife he got in a way no one would ever call normal. He had taken her from a broken past, left her mother alone, and married the daughter of the same woman he once called his own. It sounded wrong, and thinking about his family only made it worse. They never accepted Aria. Not once.
Maybe they had no right to interfere in his life, but their words stayed in his head. And now that Jessie had come back, everything he thought he had built started falling apart.
Look at him now. Instead of going home to his wife, he had chosen to be with his ex. Instead of spending the night with Aria in the big house he owned, he had been somewhere else, doing something he should not have done.
He let out another breath and glanced at himself. He looked clean. Put together.
Before coming home, he had taken a shower and changed his clothes. He even sprayed perfume to cover what happened earlier.
It was not just wrong. It was worse than that. He knew exactly what he was doing.
Dominic pushed the door open slowly and stepped inside. The room was dim, lit only by the soft glow coming through the open curtains. The moon had finally come out after hiding behind clouds for hours.
He walked further in and turned on the main light. The room brightened at once.
From where he stood, he saw Aria asleep on the sofa. She was curled up, her small body pressed into a space that was too tight for her.
He moved closer and crouched in front of her, bringing his face level with hers. He looked at her quietly.
Anyone would stop and stare at Aria when she slept. She looked peaceful, innocent, untouched by the mess around her. But no one would guess who she really was. The daughter of his ex-wife. The same girl who pulled him away from that past and into something new.
He thought about Helena for a moment. His ex-wife. Aria’s mother. He had not heard anything about her for a long time. The last thing he knew was that she had moved on and married a rich man from her own country.
If that was true, then maybe she would stay away for good. Maybe she would not come back to cause trouble again.
Dominic looked back at Aria. Guilt settled heavily in him. She was his wife, yet he had been with Jessie.
He lifted his hand and touched her cheek gently, his fingers moving slowly across her skin.
“I am sorry,” he said under his breath, knowing she could not hear him.
He kept touching her face until she began to stir. She moved slightly, then slowly opened her eyes. The light made her blink as she tried to focus.
When she finally saw him, she sat up at once.
“Dominic?” Her voice sounded rough from sleep.
He gave her a soft smile. “Why are you sleeping here?” he asked.
Aria looked around, then seemed to remember.
“I was waiting for you. Daisy said you had to work late. Something urgent came up.”
Dominic paused for a moment.
Daisy. Working late. He cleared his throat and smiled again, covering it up. “I am home now. Have you eaten?” he asked.
Aria shook her head.
“I wanted to wait for you. I know you have not eaten either. You do not like eating alone, so I thought we could eat together.”
His stomach sank when he heard that. He had already eaten, just not with her.
“Then let us eat together,” he said anyway.
Aria smiled right away and stood up. “I will warm the food. You sit.”
He nodded and walked to the table.
She picked up the dishes one by one and placed them in the microwave. Dominic stood behind her, watching. She looked happy, focused on something simple.
She had no idea what he had done behind her back. He knew that if she ever found out, it would break her.
“I am done,” Aria said, pulling him out of his thoughts.
He looked at the food in front of him.
“I am sorry it is just reheated,” she added, her face showing worry.
“It is fine. I will eat everything,” he said. “I am hungry, and you cooked. That is enough.”
Her smile returned.
They ate together, talking here and there, sharing small jokes like everything was normal.
But he knew this could not stay like this for long.
“Why are you getting close to Dominic again?”
Jessie stopped when she heard the voice behind her. She turned and found Geri standing there.
“That is none of your business,” she said without care.
Geri stepped closer until he stood beside her. “Dominic is married. You have no right to go back to him. The woman with him now deserves to be happy.”
Jessie looked at him, then gave a cold smile.
“You should not be saying that,” she said.
Then she walked past him. Geri watched her. “What do you mean?”
Jessie stopped and looked back at him. “Do you think I do not see the way you look at her? You notice her too, do not you?”
Geri went quiet. Jessie let out a small laugh. “You are not as hidden as you think.”
clicked his tongue. “You talk like you know everything. You do not.”
Jessie did not answer right away. She glanced around, then pointed toward the cashier.
“You are being called.”
Geri looked over and saw customers waiting.
“We are not done,” he said before heading back to his work.
Jessie watched him for a moment, then turned and went back to her shopping as if the conversation meant nothing.
She never planned to come here, knowing he would be around. Geri always stayed at the store at night, acting like a regular worker even though he owned so many places like this.
When she finished, she paid and left without looking back.
