Chapter 76 Rescued

Chapter 76 Rescued
Adrian's POV.

After I dropped the call with the anonymous mastermind, I called Nathaniel, rushing out of Cassandra's apartment immediately.

I informed Nathaniel. One of us had to save Evelyn.

I drove roughly through the road, my hand not leaving the honk as I drove. Soon, the road got busy behind me, police vans calling out my plate number, telling me to stop but there was no way I was doing that.

It didn't take long before I was able to lose them. Ten minutes had passed and I wasn't near crown store house yet.

For the first time in ages, I prayed that the guy was playing another of his silly pranks on me. I prayed earnestly that Evelyn is safe.

Soon, I was there, looking at the store house from afar but then I realized the deed had been done.

My car sped towards the storehouse, another car also emerging from the other side.

I sighted Nathaniel at the driver's seat, his hand controlling the wheel roughly like I was doing.

The explosive had gone off, smoke filled the air and fire kept escalating.

The entrance to the storehouse was wide, I didn't stop the car, I drove through the right side of the entrance, Nathaniel doing the same with the left side.

I sighted Evelyn on the ground. I stopped the car, stepping out immediately.

She was sprawled on the floor, her face laying flat on the ground.

“Evelyn!” I called. I picked her up immediately, pulling her closer to myself.

Everywhere burned, her whole body was hot and she sobbed loudly. “Let's get out of here,” I said.

We moved towards the entrance when Evelyn snapped her face to the back.

“Watch out!” She said, her voice weak. I turned to look but couldn't even get to.

A loud explosion sound was heard, the both of us forced to throw ourselves to the ground right at the entrance.

I got up immediately, knowing that place wasn't safe either. Finally, we were out, both of us seated on the floor and panting heavily.

I held Evelyn close to me as I watched the fire burn from the inside.

Nathaniel also rushed out, staying far away from the entrance and also joining in watching.

The fire took over the two cars, the entrance doors turning black from the burn.

I heaved a sigh of relief. She's safe, that's all that matters.

Suddenly, a loud sob grabbed my attention. I turned my face to Evelyn who had resumed crying.

“I thought I was going to die” she cried. “I had given up on my life.”

I stared at her, not knowing what to do. She needed a hug right now but the only thing I did was keep staring.

Before I could blink eyes, Nathaniel crouched down in front of her, pulling her into a tight hug.

“It's okay, Evie,” He said, patting her back. “You are fine now.”

Evelyn cried more, her head resting on his shoulder.

I cleared my throat and stood up, yanking my phone out of my pocket.

I called Edwards. “Bring a car over to crown storehouse,” I told him. “Have a driver come along to pick Nathaniel Quinn up.”

After I ended the call, I turned back to look at Evelyn who was still crying on Nathaniel's shoulder.

Seconds later, they broke the hug. She sniffled, still seated on the floor while Nathaniel stood up, tucking his hands in his pocket.

I walked back to Evelyn. She lifted her face to look at me, her teary eyes shining like a goddamn diamond.

“Are you hurt anywhere?” I asked.

“My stomach hurts,” she sniffled. “It feels like the wound opened up again.”

I nodded in understanding. “I'll get you back to the hospital.”

I looked away from her but her voice which rose made me turn my face back to her.

“Who stabbed me?” She asked, face panicked. “Who's trying to kill me?”

“You don't need to know all that, Evelyn,” I told her sternly. “Just take care of your health.”

She scoffed, throwing her head to the side. That moment, I knew the vulnerable and crybaby Evelyn was gone and the sharp-tongued and never relenting one is back.

She was weak but she forced herself to stand. “Someone tried to kill me and you tell me I don't need to know who it is?”

“I don't need to know why soemone is after my life?” She scoffed. She turned her face to Nathaniel. “You also think I don't deserve to know?”

Nathaniel responded, taking a deep breath first. “You shouldn't worry about that, Evelyn. I trust Mr. Adrian is going to take care of it.”

Evelyn scoffed in disbelief, her gaze darting between the both of us.

Then I spoke. “You want to know?” I moved closer to her.

“I also don't know who is after your life,” I told her. “All I know is that I've been trying to get you back for hours after you were taken.”

She stared at me for seconds without replying. I couldn't tell what she was feeling, whether gratitude or hatred.

The sound of a car approaching made everyone turn their faces to the side.

Edward had arrived with the car. He stepped down, bowing slightly. I walked over to him. “Did you call for his ride too?”

“Yes, sir.”

I faced Evelyn. “Get in. You should get back to the hospital.”

She took a step forward but I could see the way her face creased because of that single action, the way she staggered, using efforts to take steps.

I moved forward, heading to her to help. I had barely taken two steps when Nathaniel held her gently by the shoulder, guiding her to the car.

Evelyn got into the car and Edward did the same.

Nathaniel opened the door to the passengers seat but I placed a hand on the door, slamming it closed.

“Thank you for helping out,” I said. “But that doesn't make us friends.”

“I can't let you into my car, I already called a driver for you."
