Chapter 75 075

Chapter 75 075

Evelyn's POV.

My eyes fluttered open, landing on the bulb that hung on the ceiling.

I felt a sharp pain on the side of my stomach when I tried to turn my head. That moment, everything came rushing back.

Someone stabbed me at the party, I saw Adrian next and the next thing, I blacked out.

Slowly, I turned my head. It hurts, that little action hurts but I did it anyway.

There was an oxygen mask above my head, the stand right beside me.

I expected myself to be in a hospital but when I looked around, I realized this place is not one.

Everywhere smelled of medicine but this wasn't a hospital room. There were also plastic boxes that had the label “cotton wools” . It was hard to make those things out as my eyes were still hazy but I knew I needed to get my act straight.

Distinct voices became clearer, my ears getting strained to listen to the voices around me.

“The boss should pay us more for staying here to look over this sick bitch,” a masculine voice said.

“I know right.” Another dark hoarse voice laughed.

Was the boss they were talking about Adrian? Did he have them bring me here instead of a hospital?

I wanted to speak to them but I was unable to because of the mask above my nose and mouth.

“I should remove this,” I thought to myself.

I made an attempt to lift my hands but realized that I had been tied to the stretcher I was placed on.

“What's happening?”

I wriggled, trying to get my hand free but nothing worked.

The corner of my eyes caught eyes turning to my side and I quickly stopped. I became still, slowly closing my eyes and pretending to be asleep.

“Did they catch me yet?” I thought. I needed to be careful, I didn't know whether they were foes or friends.

“Is she awake?” A voice rose. I felt movements moving towards me, their steps heavy and slow.

When they got to me, silence filled the air and all I could feel was the sound of their breath.

“She's not,” another person said. “She’s still unconscious.”

“I swear I saw something move just now,” the first voice argued. I made sure not to panic, I just stayed the way I was.

“Poor her,” someone said calmly. “She's dying soon.”

“How many minutes left until the explosive goes off?” Another voice asked.

My hands shook against my will as I replayed their words in my ears.

Dying soon? Explosive?

They fell silent again and then I realized there was another sound in the room apart from the voices of the people around me.

Something beeped slowly and that made my heartbeat rise and fall harder.

I had questions but I knew these people were not the right people to ask. Adrian wouldn't leave explosives here to kill me, they are enemies.

I heard the receding sounds of their footsteps and after I was sure they were gone, I opened my eyes.

I moved my face around, eyes landing on the beeping device at the far end of the room. It counted fast, seven minutes, my heart clenched.

There was a wooden wool that trailed down into a plastic keg, another one trailing down all four corners of the room, then up to the ceiling.

Whatever those things were, they were surely going to explode.

A phone started ringing and that made me turn my face to the three people who had returned to sit.

“Yes, M. We will leave now,” one of them said to the phone. “She's not awake yet. I don't think she will make it out of here.”

The call ended and they all stood up at the same time.

“We should leave. This place will burn down soon.” They walked towards the entrance while my heartbeat kept rising.

I had been left to die but there was no way I was giving up on surviving without trying.

The door slammed after them, making me realize I was all alone now.

Once again, I checked the time left. Six minutes, just six minutes.

I looked around my sides, looking for anything to release myself. There was a table right beside me. It had scalpels and scissors placed on it.

The problem is, there was no way to get it. “Think fast, Evelyn!” I scolded myself in my head.

Immediately, I forced the stretcher to the ground with all the strength I had in me.

I fell to the floor with a loud clattering sound, the table of medical tools also falling alongside me.

My side hurts but it wasn't the time to mend a stab wound when I might soon burn to death here.

I shifted on the ground, reaching for one of the scalpels with my legs.

I held the scalpel with my leg, took in a deep breath then threw it up in the air, catching it with one of my tied hands.

I kept my face on the time as I cut the rope used in tying my hands.

Three minutes left.

My hands were set free and I yanked the oxygen mask off my face immediately.

I stood up, attempting to run out but every step I took was filled with pain.

It slowed me down, the stab wound hurting more than ever.

Before I knew it, I heard a sparking sound and I turned. The time count had gone off and there was a small fire catching the wools and spreading across to the different corners it led to.

I blinked. Once it gets to the plastic keg, everywhere explodes.

I picked my race, heading towards the entrance. The entrance was not that far but I just couldn't walk well no matter how hard I tried.

Seconds later, I heard a loud explosion sound and a force threw my legs off the ground, making me fall to the floor, my face laying flat on the floor.

Everywhere burned, sounds of items burning echoing in my ears.

I groaned. I tried to stand up but all that happened was tears spilling down my face.

“You need to get up, Evelyn!” I told myself, my voice teary. “This can't be the end.”
