Chapter 60 060

Chapter 60 060

Adrian’s POV.

They all stared but I acted like nothing was happening. I called one of the waiters over and he appeared beside me immediately, his head slightly bowed.

“What's happening?” I asked.

He hesitated for a moment before he spoke. “The whole internet is buzzing with news about you, sir”

“Please check” he stretched his tablet over to me, attempting to show me what the issue is.

“Take it away,” I ordered immediately. “I don't want to see”

He did as I instructed him. “Tell the dancers to resume dancing, I don't want to miss the fun of the show”

He bowed and walked away. That was a lie. After the whole media had gotten the people here to look at me that way, I became restless. But still, I wasn't going to address whatever it is until this show ends.

The sound of someone chuckling got me back from my reverie back to the room.

That was Nathaniel.

“You really look like you don't care, Mr. Kane” he said, looking at me amused.

I smiled back at him, fake, calculated. “We are here to enjoy the show and we should focus on that, shouldn't we?”

Just as I finished saying those words, my phone started ringing and it was Dennis.

I creased my face. Was he also calling because of the news?

I didn't pick up, I only turned my face to look at the dancers on the stage.

From the corner of my eyes,I could see Evelyn's face on me but I didn't act like I saw her.

My face was forced to snap when my phone rang again and the call was still from Dennis. Still, I wasn't going to pick.

The phone kept ranging and I silenced it, finally bringing peace to the table.

I focused my attention on the stage but Evelyn's voice made me turn again.

“Looks like you really need to pick that call, Mr. Kane” she said.

Her face was on my phone before she turned to me, her face darkened.

Dennis was still calling. I sighed deeply before I picked the phone up, swiping the green button.

Dennis' voice came from the other end, restless and panicked.

“Did you see it?” He asked.

I took in a deep breath before I responded. “See what?”

“The news!” He almost yelled.

“Don't tell me you didn't check yet?” He asked with a gasp.

“I'll check later, Den” I wanted to hang up when his last words came.

“Your father--” I had already cut him off by clicking the red button.

My father? The news is about my father?

I dropped the phone returning my face to the stage but there was no focus anymore. I couldn't get my mind off the words Dennis has said.

Swiftly, I turned my face to my phone, picked it up and checked what it was all about.

The headline was crazy but the comment section was crazier. It was really about my father, Diego Kane.

The news didn’t shake me, but the fact that it got revealed to the world was what did.

“Diego Kane’s wealth acquired through fraud and corruption” The headline stated and the post under it explained it.

That was one of the truths I had been trying my best to hide away from the world but now it is there, staring back at me even after I tried so much to protect it.

There were proofs, I couldn't call the headlines a lie because I knew so damn well that it was the truth.

The comment section questioned me.

“Did Adrian Kane build his empire with his father’s frauds?”

That was also not a lie. For Diego to get to where he was, he did a lot of shits.

But all my entire life living as Adrian Kane, ruling the empire he left behind, I've tried to correct his mistakes.

But these people won't understand that. They never will.

I stood up from the chair, faces turning to me because of that single action.

Again, they whispered. They gossiped.

I’ve never cared so much about the public, I didn't know why I was doing so at the moment.

“Enjoy the rest of the show, Evelyn. I'll leave first” My voice was barely audible.

I didn't care if she heard or not, I walked out of the room, finally escaping the eyes that looked at me.

I hurried out to the car, Edwards opening the car door for me. I had almost slid inside when a voice rose behind me.

“We came here together but now you want to leave alone?” Evelyn asked. “Enjoy the show?” She scoffed.

“What's there to enjoy when you are restless?” She added.

I looked at her for a second, my face darkened. I wanted to look at her softly but I couldn't even do that at the moment.

“We didn't come here together, did you forget?”

I slid into the car without waiting for a response, Edwards getting into the car seconds later.

“Drive” I instructed.

David was still there with the car that brought her. She should return home with that if she's done with the show.

I needed time alone to get my shits together. There was nothing to solve here. Silencing the media was possible but it doesn't mean this would die forever.

It had been revealed. The people now know, what's there to hide anymore?

The drive was filled with silence and when the car stopped in front of the mansion.

I stepped out, heading into the house.

“Welcome sir” Mira greeted like she had always done but I ignored her.

I didn't head up the stairs, I walked towards the dining room where the cellar lay behind.

I had taken two more steps when the door slammed close, forcing me to turn.

Evelyn was standing with her face darkened, eyes solely fixed on me.

“You are usually not this way,” she said. “Why is the news having an effect on you this much?”

“Just tell them the truth!” She snapped. “Tell them it's not true, then it will be over!”

I swallowed hard. That's the problem. I can't because it's the truth.
