Chapter 48 The masked Party
Evelyn's POV
“Enjoy the party,” she bowed slightly and I walked in.
I gasped in surprise when my eyes landed on the sight of the hall.
The lights were dim and I could barely see the people's faces. Everyone wore masks of different colors and distinct voices echoed round the room.
Suddenly I felt it. The feeling that this was going to be interesting.
I walked through the hall in search of my partner. It was difficult to recognize anyone as everyone was in masks.
I couldn't see Adrian among the crowds, there was no way I would be able to spot Nathaniel too.
I focused on finding my partner among the crowdiness and loudness in the hall.
As I walked, I suddenly felt someone tap me from the back. I turned immediately, looking startled.
My eyes met with the person and I blinked. It was a man with the same mask as mine.
“I see we are pairs” he said, making me give a small smile.
“Nice to meet you” I said.
Just then, a voice rose into a microphone, echoing in the whole room.
“Hello everyone,” I recognized the voice to be Cecelia's. “Thank you for finding time to attend the fun mask party we have prepared for you”
“The first mask game is…..” She paused. “Game of truth. Rule; if your partner doesn't wish to spill, make them drink”
“Keep in mind that you are not to disclose your name to your partners,” she added.
She dropped the mic and people clapped, roars echoing in the room.
“Should we get drinks then?” My newly found partner said.
We walked to the bartender, taking two bottles of wine and returning to a table to sit.
“I'll call you violet,” he said. “I like the color of your dress”
I chuckled. “I'll call you Bluey then” He had a blue mask on and that was the only thing I could think of using to represent him.
“Are you married?” He asked.
I was surprised at the first question he could think of asking me.
“Why are you curious about that?” I asked, still looking confused.
“The game rule; answer the question and pass. Dodge the question and drink”
I sighed and crossed my hands, leaning back into the chair. “Alright, I'm married” I stared at him to see his reaction.
I couldn't see his face through the mask but he looked familiar, even his voice sounded like I've heard it somewhere before but I just couldn't place it.
“Why are you curious about my marriage?” I asked.
I expected him to explain and tell me the reason but I was surprised when he gulped down a glass of wine.
“Are you happy in that marriage? Is he treating you well” he asked.
I kept having the feeling that the man beside me was someone I know.
He doesn't need to know what's going on in my marriage. He was just a stranger a mere mask party was bringing together.
“Why do you want to know if I'm happy?” I asked. “Answer this question and I will answer yours too”
“Because it's obvious that you are not,” he said. “I just want to know how that asshole is treating you”
Like a flash, I suddenly recalled where I heard that voice.
He asked his question. “So, are you happy?”
I took a sip of the drink not because I wasn't going to answer the question but because I was getting amused at the moment.
“You don't expect me to be happy when your friend is acting so cold towards me” I spat. “Why act like you care when you don't?”
“You handed me over to him the other day. You are in the same league with him”
He leaned back and processed his thoughts quickly. He looked at me and his lips parted, slightly in shock.
“Wait, how….” He looked shocked.
“You are the CEO of Denklings Group” I said, glaring at him through the mask even though you couldn't see it.
“How did you find out?” He asked.
“Your voice. I knew it sounded familiar” I said.
He stood up. “This is no fun with you then”
“There is no truth I want to learn about you” he said. “I was only going to play around with you”
“No truth to learn about me?” A smirk appeared on my lips. “That's because Adrian told you everything there is to know.”
“Enjoy the party alone. I won't be staying with you” he walked away.
I stood up, picked a glass of wine on the table, walked around and looked at everyone.
I was starting to recognize a few people from the way they walked, their dressing and their voices.
While looking around, I saw Cassandra. She swayed her hips elegantly the way she has always done.
She was wearing a pink cat mask and I could see her pair too, she was paired with a girl.
“Don't have a partner?” A voice rose behind me and I turned.
Someone under a mask smiled widely at me and I blinked.
Even though he was on a mask, I recognized him. We've stayed together for long for me not to recognize the smile on his face.
Nathaniel.
“My partner ditched me,” I said, turning around to continue looking at the people.
“Where's your husband?” He asked.
“It's a masked party. There's no way I would know where he is” I said. “Everyone can have whatever fun they want to have here, I shouldn't be clinging to my husband”
My eyes caught Cassandra again and she was dropping her glass of wine with her partner and moving to another place.
She placed a hand on someone's chest and leaned in closer to him. I didn't know if she gave him a peck or if she whispered something close to his ear but I realized that person was Adrian.
He was standing with his usual cold face, staring at Cassandra with a look I couldn't understand.
The look on his face doesn't tell if he hated Cassandra or if he still liked her.
It was none of my problem. I moved my face away from them and talked with Nathaniel about his parents.
A part of me didn't want my face to leave Adrian and Cassandra. I turned back to them again and was surprised to see them heading towards the balcony, Adrian leading the way.
“I'll be back, Nate” I said in a hurry and followed them.
When I got to where the both of them were standing, my eyes blinked and my mouth opened wide in disbelief.
I couldn't get a clear view of Adrian but the way the both of them stood, it was so damn obvious that they were kissing.
My husband kissed his ex-girlfriend in a public masked party when all he ever cared about was his reputation.
