Chapter 45 Geracio Policy

Chapter 45 Geracio Policy
Evelyn's Pov

“What?” I asked but the next second, the call disconnected.

I dashed out of the room, climbing down the stairs in a hurry.

Mira was standing beside the stairs, a piece of document in her hands.

“I'm here with your schedule, ma'am. You--”

“Later, Mira,” I cut her off without turning to look at her.

I dashed out of the room, storming outside to the parking lot.

David was just walking away from the car, wanting to head into the mansion.

“Are you going somewhere, ma’am?” He asked. “The boss asked me to report everywhere you need to go to him before you leave.”

“My father collapsed,” I said in a hurry. “I need to get to the hospital.”

“I will inform the boss right away, ma’am,” David said and that made me scoff in disbelief.

Even in emergency cases, I have to seek permission like a child before I can move around? Unbelievable!

What if Adrian doesn't pick up? Then I won't be able to leave? What if he says not to go, then I won't be able to check up on my Father?

“Hello?” My voice was stern. “I just told you my father is sick, drive me to the hospital!” I snapped, anger rising in me.

“I'm sorry but I obey orders from the boss first before anyone else,” he said.

My jaws clenched but I didn't say a word. David talked with Adrian on the phone, the call lasting for some minutes before he faced me again.

“This way, ma'am,” he walked to the car, opening the car door. “I got his approval”

Again, I scoffed. I glared at David as I walked but entered the car nevertheless.

The drive to the family hospital was short. I walked in elegantly, heading inside without stopping at the receptionist's desk.

Not long after, I saw the doctor. He was discussing with someone who obviously looked like a patient's guardian and his face turned to me, surprised.

I let him finish with the guardian before I approached him.

He bowed slightly to me. “It's been a while, ma’am.”

“I know,” I replied, my face devoid of a smile.

“What brings you here? Are you feeling sick?” He asked and my face creased in confusion.

He should know the reason why I'm here since my father is here.

He's the family doctor and the hospital is the same one we had been using for checkups for years.

“I heard my father collapsed.”

He blinked. “What? The chairman did?”

I was getting confused at the moment. If my father truly collapsed, then the Doctor would know. He would have been informed and he would be the one attending to him.

“I wasn't informed about this,” he said. “I'll check the patient's entry for today.”

We both moved back to the lobby and he checked with the nurses taking the records.

My father's name was not recorded, he wasn't brought to the hospital today.

I had them check the VIP wards too but he wasn't recorded among the patients occupying the rooms at the moment.

Was Eva playing a silly prank on me and trying to stress me out just to take revenge on me for being harsh on her?

I took my phone, trying to put a call across to her but another call popped up at that moment.

Adrian. I picked up without delay not because I wanted to talk to him but I needed to get rid of his call so I could talk with Eva.

“He’s not at your family hospital,” he said. “Come to Geracio.”

In the background, I could hear my mother's voice as she scolded Eva for giving me the wrong information.

I blinked. Father really collapsed and Adrian Kane was there even before me.

“To Geracio,” I said to David who was behind me, rushing out of the hospital to the car.

Geracio was a hospital quite close to my parents house. I should have thought of the fact that they will have to move him to the nearest hospital before thinking about bringing him here.

The car moved and soon it stopped in front of Geracio. I stepped down and walked inside.

“Mr. Gerald Voss please,” I asked the receptionist who went through the registry.

“Emergency room 4,” she said. I thanked her and walked away.

David walked ahead of me, asking for directions. We got to the room and Adrian was outside, talking with a doctor who had his head bowed.

I paused to listen to what they were talking about and I realized that the doctor was being scolded by my husband.

“You didn't think he's someone important?” Adrian scoffed.

“You treat people based on importance here and not equality?” He continued.

I took a deep breath and walked closer to them. The sound of my heels clicking against the ground announced my presence, making the both of them turn their faces.

“What's happening here?” I asked.

The doctor looked at me in a way that showed he was unsure if he should talk or not.

“Please speak,” I said quickly. “I'm the patient's daughter.”

The doctor bowed slightly. “When Mr. Voss was brought here, there were no available wards.”

“Emergency wards were occupied and only VIP rooms were available,” the doctor explained. “It was against the hospital policies to use the VIP wards for just anyone.”

“I couldn't transport your Dad to the VIP room even though he needed immediate treatment,” he said.

Adrian scoffed silently. “You say you are the director of this place?” he frowned.

“You are incompetent, unfit to direct a place where human lives are saved,” Adrian spat.

Before anyone could process what Adrian was doing, he was already holding his phone to his ear, the ringing tone echoing through everyone's ears. I could guess what Adrian was trying to do.

The doctor quickly bowed his head deeply. “I was just following the guidelines laid down by the hospital executives sir.”

“You are a director,” Adrian paused, looking at him coldly. “You are an executive too.”

“You should have stopped them from making such absurd guidelines,” he continued. “Even if they made it, you should have put the lives of the people first.”

Adrian placed the phone to his ears, silence reigning for a few moments before his voice rose.

“Geracio,” he said and my heart thumped. Even though it had nothing to do with me, I became nervous and scared.

I didn't know the doctor personally but I could tell what would happen to him. I know how miserable his life could end up in just a few minutes.

“Replace the director,” Adrian said casually like that wasn't a man's life he's destroying.

The doctor gasped, falling on his knees but that would never make Adrian end the call or stop what he intended to do.

“Get his license revoked too!”
