Chapter 28 Cassandra's Tip
Evelyn's POV.
When Adrian came back, I wasn’t surprised to learn he had already been informed about what happened.
He walked in, and the package was the first thing he examined.
David walked in behind him, his face just as serious.
“What else was inside?” He asked, looking almost unconcerned.
I stood up and handed the card over to him. “This!”
He opened the card and read through it.
His jaws clenched as he turned to David. “From now on, never bring any package into the house without checking it.”
“Yes, boss,” David's sharp voice cut through.
“Never receive any package meant for her,” Adrian continued. “And she must never go anywhere outside the mansion alone.”
He turned to face me. “And you heard that right, Evelyn. Don't disobey me.”
I didn't say a word and only watched as he handed the box over to David.
“Discard it. And don't stop looking into him,” he ordered sternly.
When David left, I was left all alone with Adrian in the room.
His face turned to me but he said nothing and only darted his gaze away from me, wanting to walk inside.
My voice stopped him. “Who sent that? Why are you digging into him?”
I was starting to get terrified of the whole thing.
The person was able to get the confetti time bomb into the house, and I believe he isn't a fool.
He knew they would tighten security after what he sent but he still did it. If the person was truly serious about the threat, then he would find a way to get something else inside the next time.
“Don't look into what you can't handle,” Adrian said, tilting his head slightly towards me. “You don't have a reason to know.”
He continued walking and my eyes trailed behind him, teeth gritting behind closed lips.
Mira appeared in front of me, bowing slightly to Adrian who wasn't even looking at her.
“Should I serve your dinner, boss?” She asked.
“Yes. Bring it to my room in fifteen minutes.” He didn't stop walking neither did he turn to look at her.
Again, Mira bowed then turned to me. “What about you, ma'am? Should I serve your dinner too?”
“I'll skip dinner,” I said, my face fixed on the stairs Adrian had just ascended.
The beeping sound that came from the phone in my hand made me turn my attention back to my phone.
I looked over at the phone and it was a message from Cassandra.
“Let's meet up,” her message read. “Then I'll tell you all about him.”
I stood still and stared at the message. I really didn't want to get involved with her, but I desperately wanted to know the secrets she was talking about.
Cassandra is his ex-fiancee, there was a possibility they had shared secrets with each other. If there were truly secrets about Adrian, then she must know.
I typed back into the keyboard for the first time since she had started messaging me.
“When?”
She replied almost immediately. “Tomorrow. I'll send you the location.”
Now the problem is how to get out of the mansion. Adrian had tightened security. He had ordered them not to let me out alone.
All night, I thought about how I'd get out of the mansion to meet with her.
The next day came by like lightning. Cassandra sent me the location already and I was dressed up to meet with her.
She wanted to meet in the parking lot of a nearby mall so I called Mira to my room.
“Is there anything I can do for you, ma'am?” she asked.
“My period suddenly came,” I said. “And I can't find any of my sanitary pads”
“Ah,” Mira muttered. “Then I'll get you some of mine.”
She turned and wanted to leave the room when I called her back.
“That's the problem, Mira.” I said. “I can't use yours, I use only one brand and I'm sure that's not what you use.”
“Then what do we do?” She asked, getting worried.
“Let's go get some at the mall,” I smiled. “I think I can be fine till then without a pad.”
I didn't wait for her reply before I walked out of the room, heading out of the house.
“Heading somewhere, ma'am?” David asked.
Mira appeared behind me. “Yes. We will grab some ladies things at the mall real quick.”
David didn't argue but only led us to the car.
The car stopped at the mall a few minutes later and we walked in. I picked the brand of sanitary pad I was talking about and while Mira was trying to make the payments, I excused myself.
“I'll quickly use the restroom.” I said to her and walked away.
I went through the back exit to the parking lot and called Cassandra.
She was inside her car, waiting for me. I spotted the car and walked to her.
“I snuck out here so I'll really appreciate it if you can tell me whatever it is quickly,” I said and that was my way of greetings.
“There's nothing to talk about. Adrian has a lot of secrets but you won't be hearing them from me.” she said. “Set him up and then you'd find them out.”
My gaze squinted. Was she kidding me at the moment?
“What do you mean?” I blinked.
She spoke. “Have someone tail him or do something. No one is going to find you the secrets he holds, you need to do it yourself.”
“And that's why you called me out here?” I parted my lips in disbelief.
“And you came.” Her face darkened. “You came because you are also curious and suspicious of him, aren't you?”
“I'm done here. I was so stupid to come in the first place.” I said and stormed out of the car, returning to the mall where Mira already had her eyes looking out for me.
We returned home but the moment we got into the house, Mira who had her eyes glued on her phone turned to me.
“The boss wants you to prepare,” she paused. “There's a gala tonight and you can't miss it.”
Of course. When has my opinion ever mattered?
