Chapter 27 The Bomb Threat
Evelyn's POV
“Please get up, ma'am. It's time for your morning routine,” I heard Mira's voice in my sleep.
Slowly, I fluttered my eyes open. Mira was standing beside my bed, her hands crossed over her chest.
“Good morning, ma'am,” she greeted.
“What's the time?” I asked, still half asleep.
“It's thirty-eight minutes past eight, ma'am,” she responded. “Time for your yoga practice.”
I shook my head subconsciously and nodded while pressing my lips into a thin line. There was no need to argue, I was getting used to doing weird stuff in this mansion.
I washed my face the moment I was out of bed, grabbed my phone then went into the gym with Mira.
“Stretch your hands. Relax your body and mind,” she instructed, and I obeyed.
“Take in long deep breaths and fold your legs,” she continued.
That went on for a while, and I didn't even realize how much time had passed.
By 10am, I was made to stand up and Mira handed me a towel. I dabbed my neck and face with it before heading back into the room to take a shower.
Adrian was nowhere in sight and I knew he had gone to work before I even got out of bed.
The moment I got out of the bathroom, my phone beeped. I picked it up, my body still wrapped in a towel.
It was a message from that unknown number who turned out to be Cassandra.
“You still don't want to know about Adrian?” The message read.
My eyes lingered on the message and I read it over and over again before letting a sigh escape my lips.
I didn't know what to do but I knew I didn't want to get involved with that lady.
I didn't reply and only dropped the phone on the bed before moving to my closet.
The time moved so quickly and hours passed, washing the afternoon away when all I did was stay in the sitting room, my gaze fixed on the TV.
There was nothing to do in the house and I never expected my life to be this boring.
I always had games to play with Eva, there were usually things to talk about and even if we had nothing to do, I'd let her use my face to practice makeup.
But here, I was trapped with only Dera and Mira and the both of them wouldn't even show their faces here unless they were called.
A knock came on the door and I stood up, wanting to get it when Mira quickly appeared from the kitchen.
“Leave it,” I instructed. “I'll get it”
She stopped without arguing. I went to get the door, knowing it had to be one of the guards.
I twisted the doorknob and the door opened. David was at the door, his face turning in surprise when he saw me.
“This package came for you, ma'am,” he said, handing the package over to me.
I looked down at the package in my hand and squinted my gaze, trying to figure out who it could be from.
“Who is it from?” I asked.
“A relative of yours, that's what the delivery man said,” David replied.
Relative? I didn't recall knowing any other relative except my grandmother who is now dead.
“Thank you.” I forced a smile to my lips. “I didn't see you at all yesterday,” I added.
He bowed slightly. “I left the mansion on boss's orders. I'm sorry ma'am.”
I blinked. Who says sorry for being sent on an errand and not being able to stay home?
“No, it's fine,” I said and returned into the room, closing the door after me.
I settled down on the sofa and placed the package on the table.
“Who could have sent this?” I thought but knew I won’t have a clue unless I unwrap it so I did just that.
When I opened the box, there was nothing special, just a card and something that looked like…..
I touched it and a timer started counting, a loud beep sound making noise around the house.
I had never seen a bomb before, but this thing looked like one.
Before I could process what was happening, David rushed into the house.
“Please move away ma'am! It's dangerous,” he was in full panic mode.
My eyes widened in terror as David held my arm, moving me towards the stairs.
Mira also evacuated away from the table where the beeping sound was coming from.
We had barely gotten on the first step when the sound stopped and the bomb exploded.
I snapped my face to the back, hoping to see burnt sofas and chaos but was shocked to see that a confetti had been popped.
It wasn't a bomb. It was just a confetti with a timer and a sound like a bomb.
I tried to calm my racing heart and moved back to the table.
“Please don't touch it,” David said. “There might still be something dangerous inside.”
I didn't obey him. I placed my hand into the box and took the card before he could try to stop me.
“To Adrian,” the cover page of the card read.
That package was for Adrian, but why did the person say it's mine?
I flipped to the inside of the card and read.
“Stop looking into me! The next time I send a package, it won't be a confetti popping,” the card read.
My breath hitched for a moment. That was a threat.
Who was he looking into? What does Adrian do that could warrant being sent this as a warning?
“I'll clean this,” David said.
“No,” I cut him off sharply. “Leave it like this until Adrian comes. The package is for him, not
me.”
I'd wait for him here in the sitting room. I wanted to know why the mighty Adrian Kane was being threatened.
