Chapter 211 Chapter two hundred and eleven

Chapter 211 Chapter two hundred and eleven
Sebastian's POV

Six months had passed, but the morning light spilling across the grounds of the estate felt different now. It was no longer cold, no longer heavy with the suffocating fog of impending disaster. It was warm, gold, and clean.

Down in the city, the dust from the corporate scandal had finally settled. The board meetings were no longer frantic damage control sessions, and the press had moved on to newer stories. We had rebuilt the Lancaster empire from the bedrock up—stripping away decades of toxic secrets, dark money, and quiet corruption, replacing it all with absolute, unyielding transparency. For the first time in my life, carrying the family name didn't feel like wearing a suit of iron armor. It just felt like home.

I stood in the center of the third-floor sunroom, which had spent the last two months being transformed into a nursery. The air smelled faintly of fresh cream-colored paint and polished oak.

In the corner near the high bay windows sat the crib—a heavy, beautifully crafted wooden piece that had arrived just yesterday. Avery had spent three hours with me on the floor assembling it, refusing to let the staff touch a single bolt.

She had taken her role as godmother with aggressive, joyful dedication, fussing over every detail of the room before finally leaving for the airport last night.

She was currently somewhere over the Pacific, on a long-overdue vacation in the Philippines with a wonderful man she’d met a few months back. After everything she’d given us, seeing her happy and moving forward was a gift I didn't take for granted.
I stepped over to the mahogany mantle, my fingers brushing over a small, silver-framed photograph resting near the edge.

It was an old picture. A seven-year-old Wes, sitting on my shoulders at the estate gardens, holding up a ice cream cone with a wide, toothy grin.

I picked it up, tracing the glass over his face.
For months, the sight of him had brought only a crippling, suffocating agony—the echo of gunshots, the smell of copper, and the tragic, violent end of a boy I had loved with everything I had.

But standing in this quiet, sunlit room, the sharp edges of that grief had finally softened into a deep, peaceful grace.

I didn't forget the monster he became, nor did I forget the scars he left behind. But I had made my peace with him. I remembered the boy I had raised, the laughter we shared, and the father I tried to be.

Blood hadn't made him my son, and the tragedy of his choices couldn't erase the years I had loved him.
I set the frame down gently, placing it alongside our family heirlooms, giving him his place in the past without letting his ghost shadow the future.

A soft rustle of silk sounded at the doorway.
I turned my head to see Lena leaning against the doorframe. She took my breath away—vibrant, healthy, her skin glowing under the morning sun.

She was deep in her third trimester now, her silhouette beautifully transformed by the unmistakable, round curve of her bump beneath a soft cream-colored sundress.

She looked at the photograph on the mantle, then looked up into my eyes, her expression filled with a quiet, understanding tenderness.

"How are you feeling?" she asked softly, stepping into the room.
"Better than I have in twenty years," I replied, my voice deep and clear.

I walked over to meet her in the center of the nursery, sliding my arms around her waist from behind, pulling her back against my chest.

She leaned into me effortlessly, resting her head against my shoulder as I brought both of my large hands down to rest over the high, warm curve of her stomach.

Right on cue, a sharp, tiny kick pressed back against my palms.

A quiet, breathless laugh escaped my lips. I smoothed my hands over her dress, feeling the active, miraculous life moving inside her—our child, safe, strong, and ready to meet the world.

"Somebody’s eager to get out," Lena murmured, a radiant smile gracing her lips as she rested her hands over mine.

"They take after their mother," I whispered into her hair, pressing a warm, lingering kiss against the side of her neck, inhaling the sweet, familiar scent of lavender that anchored my entire world.

Together, we walked slowly toward the wide glass doors leading out to the balcony, looking out over the sprawling green gardens bathed in the golden hues of a new dawn.

The nightmare was over. The lies had been burned away, the empire was whole, and the scars we carried had become the foundation of our strength. We had survived the storm, and as I held my wife and our unborn child in the warm morning light, I knew we were finally walking into a world free of shadows.
