Chapter 19 Anger

Chapter 19 Anger
My tone was rising and falling rapidly, the effects of emotions taking over my chest and mind. Everything was mixed together. My mind and heart split into two. One was holding me back to be more patient, and the other was pushing me to explode.

"You don't need to know everything, just do what you need to do!"

"What I need to do is to make sure you stay focused and safe in various aspects. Knowing what your problems are is also part of my duties! Don't you understand, being a nanny, chaperone, and so on means being part of your family! I need to understand and know what your problems are and help you solve them. Can you be more co-operative so that we both feel at ease?!"

The atmosphere was getting more and more heated, Mr Steward's presence was like a mannequin that didn't dare to move other than touching the steering wheel and gears beside his body. Meanwhile, we continued in a state of raised voice intonation as well as harsh words.

"To hell with it. You just have to adjust to what I need. My study schedule, activity schedule, schoolwork, and assistant help in certain matters while I'm busy racing. Other than that, it's none of your business."

I took a deep breath, my mouth wide open as if greedily pulling in oxygen. But, my chest seemed to be tightly bound, all that oxygen refused to enter, replaced with my chest that felt sore and tight.

"Chris, listen to me. I still want to talk nicely and respect my patience. You've been getting into a lot of trouble lately. I appreciate you getting into a fight in defence of me. However, other than that there are many things that you should pay attention to."

I tried to keep my intonation as well as my breathing from shaking. I could barely distinguish between crying and raging. All those feelings invaded my chest and made it difficult for me to breathe.

"Your concentration is impaired, your emotions are also increasingly unstable, you also look unfit. Your health condition is indeed recorded as good from the medical examination results. And that's exactly it, from all those factors I need to conclude that you need counselling, a talk session, or whatever. You can't ignore something that's bothering you."

Chris glared, instead of softening he seemed to show his defensive side even more. His breathing was long, but also sounded heavy.

"You have no right to know that. And who do you think you are? A chaperone doesn't need to go there. You're a smart arse, stop picking on me or you'd better quit."

My eyes were burning, now there was a stone in my throat that was stuck firmly and made the pain linger there for a long time.

"Mr Steward, please put me down here."

"Ah--Miss, please don't be rash. This area is known to be quite quiet, especially since it's already late at night."

"Please just lower it."

My order sounded absolute-even though I wasn't the one who had complete control over everything here. I understood Mr Theo's hesitation, but I still insisted on being dropped off at the curb right now, only mixed feelings in my mind right now.

Chris was silent, even after that he just stared at the window beside him. I also felt that it was something that didn't need to be bothered about, and I didn't want to care about it.

"Miss, please call me if you need anything."

I just gave a small nod, closed the car door, and walked away from the car before it even got out of there and drove away.

I'm so childish, please slap me, but anyone who sees this right now is bound to be angry. I tried to be professional, but he didn't appreciate it at all.

I just wanted the best for Chris because I sensed there was a problem going on with him, I wanted to help, but he rejected it all and kept making trouble.

It's a toxic partnership, no one can survive with that.

I wouldn't blame Mrs Carla if she labelled me as incompetent and childish. It's a very unfortunate act if she knows that.

I have no regrets if she wants to break up my relationship with her. It's the best way especially for my own mental state, I can't try to understand someone who doesn't want to understand others for too long.

After a few dozen steps away, I noticed that the car Chris and Mr Steward were travelling in was no longer where it had been. In my mind rumbled many sounds that made me feel dizzy.

My ears were buzzing, my head was aching, my body felt weak. The intense stress I was experiencing made me feel very sluggish. I didn't consider where I would go after this.

I was quite disorientated, my sense of prestige making me reluctant to go to the hotel that Chris had provided. There's no way I'm going back there after I had a big fight and asked to be dropped off from his car like earlier.

"To hell with it, I can even sleep in front of the supermarket if necessary. Whoever sees me won't care either."

My face will probably be plastered all over the news media tomorrow with the headline...

'Girlfriend of rookie F1 driver Rachel Reizz caught sleeping on a shopfront. Evidence of conflict? Relationship with the driver ended?'

I barely had the energy to think of how I would answer people's questions if that happened.

Or I could just say that we just lied about us dating?

Haha, that could be fun.

Ssrrkk

Tap Tap Tap

I was startled, my body twitching slightly in shock. I immediately went into alert mode, my body picking up an unsafe signal. My breathing that was weak and cold now became faster and warmer.

I was scared, and I wasn't lying about that.

This district was pretty quiet-more quiet than I thought it would be.

I didn't consider Mr Steward's 'fairly quiet' to mean very quiet in reality.

The footsteps sounded closer and closer, their pace quickening as if they were chasing me even though they weren't running.

This is bad, instantly the only face in my mind is Chris'. Fool! Don't expect much!

The pungent smell of cigarettes, this is not Chris' scent. I know Chris's perfume by heart, menthol and cypress mixed with lemon. Unlike what I smell now, it smells of cheap cigarettes and also smells musty.

"Woah, just by yourself?"

"So brave to be here alone, shall we drop you off?"

"Right, trust us. We're harmless, hahaha."

I swallowed, my legs trembling. Just as I expected, the voices of several men were coming from behind me. I didn't even dare to turn my head towards them now.
