Chapter 94: One Person Dominated the Battle

Roy didn't hang around in the alley for long; he made a beeline for the rundown building nearby.

The place was pitch black, no lights at all.

Knowing the enemy had already gone upstairs, he figured there'd be traps or alarms set up.

But this old building was a regular hangout for the Green Street folks, and Roy knew it like the back of his hand.

Instead of taking the stairs, he used the mechanical glove on his arm to shoot steel wires, grappling onto stuff outside the building. After a few climbs, he made it to the rooftop.

Seeing no one up there, he listened carefully and then rappelled down to the fourth floor.

Using the steel wire to slide down, he spotted two guys in the corner setting up a sniper rifle.

They had no clue someone was sneaking up on them.

Roy raised his gun and took them out with two quick shots.

He strolled over and casually collected the soul fragments from their bodies.

"Got 'Slaggy Litt's Memory Fragment *2'"

"You've picked up some 'Basic Mechanical Knowledge'"

"Firearm Experience +6"

"Mental Strength +0.05"

"Got 'Port Haddad's Memory Fragment *1'"

The gray mists gave Roy some firearm experience, and the basic mechanical knowledge was just what he needed.

Working solo didn't slow him down one bit.

Roy offed Slaggy and Port, snagging a decent sniper rifle, two mechanical arms, and a bunch of stuff from their storage rings, worth about twenty to thirty thousand copper coins.

Even though he didn't use sniper rifles much, his sniping skills were solid.

Pushing the bodies aside, he lay on the dust cover, mounted the enemy's sniper rifle on his shoulder, and scoped out the battlefield below.

From this angle, he had a clear view of Kai and his crew downstairs.

Good thing he got there in time; if he’d been a bit later, the Green Street folks would've been surrounded and wiped out.

Roy aimed the scope at a Steam Gang member across the alley, targeting a guy with a rocket launcher.

One shot to the head.

Then he pulled the bolt, aimed at the guy next to the headshot target who was staring at the building in shock, and shot him in the chest.

After dropping two targets with two shots, the enemy realized there was a sniper in the building and didn't dare to show themselves.

After those two shots, Roy didn't bother looking for more targets. He quickly packed up the sniper rifle and bailed.

Just seconds after he left, a hail of bullets hit the spot where he’d been.

Hearing the heavy gunfire, Roy knew it was the vehicle-mounted heavy machine gun on an armored car.

Armor-piercing bullets tore through the concrete wall, shredding the two bodies on the floor. If he hadn't moved, those bullets would've nailed him.

Roy switched directions, hiding behind a load-bearing pillar, and glanced at the battle downstairs.

His eyes were calm, and he didn't shoot often.

Only when he saw a serious threat to Kai and his team did Roy occasionally fire a shot.

After taking out two more guys, a rocket flew over, blasting a big hole in the floor.

But Roy had seen it coming and dodged in advance.

Downstairs, Kai watched the rocket hit the building, worried about Roy at first, but hearing the occasional gunfire, he knew Roy was still good.

With Roy, the sniper who never missed, covering them, their pressure was way less.

On the rundown building, Roy had a bird's-eye view of the whole battlefield.

Green Street was a mess, with the enemy's main force flooding in. In the few minutes he’d been upstairs, several spots that had gunfire were now silent. The Steam Gang had the numbers, and the Cross Society was getting pushed back.

It was clear that Kai's team was still holding on mainly because Roy was keeping things steady.

But Roy knew it was time to bounce.

This mess wasn't gonna get fixed by him picking off a few dudes.

Suddenly, he saw a house in the distance crumble.

"High-level pros are duking it out."

Roy squinted at the core of the collapse and saw a red-skinned giant going toe-to-toe with several Steam Gang leaders like a war god.

"That's Gollon, alright. Dude's a beast."

Roy's eyes lit up.

Gollon was taking on three at once and holding his own.

The Cross Society had sent two leaders this time; the Smoker had headed back to HQ, leaving Gollon solo in Green Street.

Roy hadn't seen him before and felt a bit uneasy.

Now that he saw Gollon, he breathed a sigh of relief.

With this big guy drawing all the heat, like a lighthouse in the dark, pulling in the enemy's second-tier pros, the chances of enemy leaders coming after him were way lower.

Thinking of this, he looked at Kai and his crew still struggling downstairs and didn't rush to leave.

"Looks like I can ambush another wave."

Roy muttered to himself.

He checked the time and thought, "They should be coming soon."

The high ground on the battlefield was crucial, especially since they knew there was a sniper inside. Roy knew the enemy would come.

Suddenly, an explosion sounded near the staircase on the first floor of the rundown building.

Hearing the explosion, Roy wasn't surprised; it was the warning bomb set up by Slaggy and Port.

The explosion meant someone had snuck in.

Roy quickly grabbed a few smoke grenades from his tactical vest, pulled the pins, and tossed them into various corners of the fourth floor.

Seconds later, smoke filled the entire floor, making it impossible to see anything.

Roy adjusted his goggles, and his vision was no longer affected.

The tactical goggles he wore were gear from the Black Tower Academy he had scavenged in the underground city, with night vision and smoke penetration. This military-grade stuff couldn't be bought in the outer city.

Roy didn't think the regular Steam Gang members had such good gear.

Soon, a few figures crept up the stairs, and before they could step onto the fourth floor, Roy fired four shots.

As soon as the gunfire stopped, four bodies tumbled down the stairs.

After shooting, Roy's ears twitched slightly, picking up other movements. He immediately turned his gun towards the window and fired two more shots, taking down two guys climbing up the wall.

After six people dropped in quick succession, the guys downstairs got smarter. They held mechanical shields in front and moved up together, about a dozen of them.

With the smoke messing up their vision, they couldn't see clearly but still fired randomly in all directions.

Roy didn't rush to act, hiding behind a stone pillar, listening carefully to the enemy's footsteps and judging their positions.

Bullets hit the stone pillar, scattering debris.

Hearing the enemy finish a round of shooting, he accurately pinpointed their positions.

At that moment, Roy pulled a string, and a creepy doll dropped from the ceiling near the staircase.

The doll, like a hanged corpse, struggled and swayed in the air, emitting a creepy laugh.

The moment the sound hit their ears, the Steam Gang members felt a moment of confusion, and their guns and shields slipped from their hands.

Without hesitation, Roy stepped out from behind the pillar, firing both guns, shooting thirteen times, and then three more shots.

In the blink of an eye, thirteen more people were dead.

Bodies piled up at the staircase.

In front of Roy, the "firearms expert," with the advantage of an ambush, the regular Steam Gang members had no chance to fight back.

Roy didn't even glance at the bodies, pulling the string to retract the creepy doll to the ceiling.

Because he knew this was just the beginning.

There were still footsteps downstairs!

Roy changed his position again, focusing on the entire fourth floor, thinking, "The next wave should include a captain-level pro."
