Baby Shower
Baby Shower
Alana's POV
My sister is a mom! I'm an aunt to a beautiful baby girl.
The last two months were literally the worst months of my entire life. Why? I wasn't prepared for how scary giving birth was. I experienced it second hand with my sister and her high risk pregnancy. Even if mine wasn't, I was still scared for myself.
There was nothing Gerald didn't do to beg her during labor. He suffered the most, all she did was yell at him, hit him and blame him for getting her pregnant. She also swore she'll never forgive or speak to him again if she came out of it alive.
It was terrifying, especially as her blood sugar level dropped severely at one point. There were lots of scares that day but she eventually popped out my two months old princess. She looked just like her mother.
Now the both of them were happy together.
My baby shower is today, actually, and somehow, I knew what to do, what to expect. Ryan wasn't at home, and we had another fight because of how he wouldn't stop treating me like an egg.
We talked things over eventually and opted for compromising, so now he lets me move about like I please. I'm not so stupid that I'll deliberately or accidentally trip over anything and I had to make him understand.
I'm also having a girl, so the decor was all pink. When I found out, I was so dramatic, Ryan had already gotten mad past return before I told him what I had been hiding.
That night, Ryan went crazy. He literally forced me to get dressed for shopping and I swear, he got me the whole store. I just picked, he could afford it, whatever.
Then my pink nursery room. I spend my time there now, impatiently fantasizing about my baby playing it or being taken care of in it.
The shower commenced with the arrival of guests, my sister and her fiance included. She also brought her daughter, Kayleigh!
There was soft background music suitable for a baby shower so the guests were comfortable. As always, I had no friends. The idea this time around was a small gathering, really tiny, and Ryan thought it to be a good idea.
I stole all the ideas my sister used for her shower, like the guest book and the cards for my baby girl. They all anonymously wrote best wishes for the both of us, then little advice in cards for my baby.
After they were all settled in, Ryan and I entertained everyone as we danced to music together, the center of attention.
We served the guests appetizers and as they ate, they were granted access to a picture booth, just for the aesthetics. No, my sister didn't have it at her baby shower. Exactly, I'm not that much of a copycat, okay?
Trust me to have stressed out my guests, guests I barely even knew. But now I was doing better at being cordial with them.
I made them guess my birth date and while most got it wrong and a couple right, I still didn't reveal it for security purposes.
After the games, my sister came up with her speech. I had one too, Ryan had one too.
I was on aunty duties as I watched my sister speak. She looked at me, ever so affectionately as she began her speech.
“Dear Alana, my dearly beloved sister. It's funny how some of you here think she now has it easy, and that she doesn't deserve it. We suffered for years today before we gained headway. She was the most amazing sister, and there's nothing she didn't do for me and my illnesses. Sometimes she wouldn't eat. I stressed her out for as long as I can remember. I'm so happy she's finally getting everything she's ever wanted.”
By the end of the speech, tears had decorated my face. Ryan held me while I held Kayleigh, urging me to stop crying.
When my sister approached me, I handed Kayleigh over to Ryan just so I could hug her. Trust Ryan to not know what to do with a baby, he was just standing so awkwardly, I couldn't help but laugh at him with my sister.
It was Ryan's turn and he walked to the stage, his eyes never leaving mime
Then he cleared his beautiful throat and began his speech.
“Where do I even begin? It's a lot to really get through but I'll make this as short as possible. Alana, my wife. Can you all believe this woman is my wife? Like, she agreed to marry me? Have you seen her?”
This crazy man pointed at me and everyone just kept staring, and it made me shy. Oh Ryan. My smile was wide, my cheeks red as fuck.
“I really tried to convince myself that I didn't love her. I'm such a damn idiot. I don't even know how she's dealing with my shit. I clearly don't deserve her. And now she's carrying my baby? Do you know what I'll do for this woman? Hell, what I won't do for this woman? Exactly, because it doesn't exist. She's my world. She was always my world and I'll forever be grateful to her for making me the happiest man in the world.”
Everyone is just making me cry. Gosh.
“I'm very impatient, I can't wait to meet my daughter who will look very much like my wife, and I will fully win in life just then. To my amazing daughter, your mom will be the most amazing mother, and I'm sure you'll confirm it yourself.”
Everyone cheered for him.
In front of everyone, Ryan reached me and dropped a kiss on my lips. Then he stepped to my side.
“I love you. I love you, wifey.”
“I love you too, thank you.” Damn, I didn't realize how shaky my voice was. Amanda was long gone from my side with Kayleigh, traitor. She stood by Gerald's side.
I was so shaken, I couldn't even say my speech, so it was scrapped out. I just wanted to cry somewhere. I was overwhelmed with the love I felt with everyone.
Finally, proper food was served. I put my A game on this meal, everything had to be perfect, it had to be a shower to remember till the end of time.
But then, I excused myself to meditate and rest for a while. I was very pregnant and always tired. But I just wanted to meditate because it was too much.
I left after a toast was made to me and my baby. I found myself in a room and just sat there, lost in thoughts for a while before Ryan walked in.
“Hey, wifey.”
“Oh hey, Ryan.” I raised my head up to see him, but then he squatted in front of me.
“I noticed you slipped away a while ago but I was expecting you back, and you never came. What's wrong?” He was staring at me with heavy concern, it made my heart beat faster because what a man.
“Nothing, Ryan. I'm just trying to catch my breath.”
“Are you uncomfortable? I can send everyone home right now if that's what you want–”
“No, no. Of course not.” Ryan could most definitely do that, but I didn't want it, really.
“I'm okay, I just need a minute.”
“Want me to leave then?” He had such pretty eyes. He was really intentional about what I wanted.
“No, stay. Sit with me.” I tapped the space beside me and he rose up and took it. For a while we enjoyed the silence before I rested my head on him and broke the silence.
“You know, you're going to be such a great father. I really loved your speech.”
“Anything for you baby. My beautiful pregnant wife. I love you more than anything.”
“Clearly. You're like, obsessed with me.”
“I am, huh.”
Amanda came right then to call us because it was time for the gifts opening.
“You wanna do it or nah?” Ryan asked just as Amanda was leaving.
“Nah.” I shook my head, truthfully. I simply had no strength left in me.
“Fine. We'll do it at home.”
We still came out to hand out party favors and thank the guests for coming. We took a bunch of photos too. Of course we didn't let the guests leave without making them write a baby time capsule for my little princess.
When we got home, I spent the most amazing time opening gifts with my husband.
