Chapter 733: Not Suitable for Children

Chapter 733: Not Suitable for Children

Brett's voice was barely a whisper, "Mom, am I useless?"

I pursed my lips and gently ruffled Brett's hair, "No way, kiddo. Don't ever think that."

Then I turned to Royce, "We can't just let this slide."

"Brett, do you know what grade he's in?" Royce nodded at me and then asked Brett.

Brett thought for a moment, "I think he's in 8th grade. I recognized his uniform."

At least now we had a starting point, making it easier to find him.

"We should ask the school for photos of all the 8th grade boys. That way, Brett can identify who it was."

I said this very seriously.

Royce nodded in agreement. He seemed to be on the same page as me.

"Mom," Brett suddenly said, "Will you and Dad pick me up tomorrow?"

I was taken aback for a moment and decided to tease Brett, "Who's this 'Dad' you're talking about?"

"Of course, it's Mr. Castillo. He's the only one I'll call Dad," Brett said shyly.

I turned to Royce, "Why do you look so calm? Brett just called you Dad."

The next second, Royce broke into a huge smile, like he had just won the lottery.

He never loses his composure like this, except around us.

"Brett, can you say it a few more times?" Royce asked, swallowing hard.

Brett ran over to Royce and hugged his leg, sweetly saying, "Dad, Dad..."

He said it several times, almost making my ears ring, but Royce seemed to love it.

"Alright, I know you two have a great bond, but Brett, it's time for dinner."

Brett nodded and went off with Kelly and Zola to eat, leaving just Royce and me in the room.

"Do you want to have a child of our own?" I asked, feeling conflicted.

We had previously decided not to have more kids, but sometimes I wondered if that was fair to him.

Even though Royce truly treated Brett and the others as his own, having a child together might be nice.

Royce hugged me, "I haven't changed my mind. I don't want you to go through the pain of childbirth again. It's hard on your body."

He paused before continuing, "Besides, we already have Brett and the others. Having another child might not be fair to them."

Kids can be sensitive. Sometimes just a word or action can make them feel left out.

"I was being impulsive. Forget I said anything," I said, snuggling into Royce's arms.

Royce ruffled my hair and gently rubbed his cheek against the top of my head.

Being so close, I could feel his chest muscles trembling slightly, making my heart race.

I couldn't help but swallow, "How do you keep in such great shape?"

We both had busy lives, but I had gained a few pounds, while Royce looked the same as ever.

Royce chuckled, "Maybe because I exercise every day. Want to join me?"

"Wouldn't that mean working out every day? That sounds exhausting," I said, already feeling tired at the thought.

"We could also exercise in bed," Royce said, pausing deliberately, "if you catch my drift."

My face instantly felt hot, and I knew it must be bright red.

"What are you talking about?" I quickly pulled away from Royce, accidentally tugging his silk robe open. "I'll go check on Brett and see how dinner's going."

But before I could take two steps, Royce grabbed my wrist and pulled me onto his lap.

I could hear my own heartbeat, loud as thunder.

"Why are you running?" Royce asked with a laugh, "Afraid I'll do something to you?"

I cleared my throat, "Who's afraid? I'm more worried about what I might do to you."

We had been together for a long time, and everything that could happen had happened.

As long as I didn't feel embarrassed, I wouldn't be at a disadvantage.

Royce leaned in closer, about to kiss me, when Brett suddenly burst into the room.

"Mom, Dad, Grandma wants to know... Oh, sorry!" Brett quickly covered his eyes, but left big gaps between his fingers.

I could see his eyes through the gaps.

"What does Grandma want?" I quickly straightened my clothes and asked Brett.

Brett seemed to remember his task, patting his forehead, "Grandma wants to know if you're staying over tonight."

I glanced outside. It was already dark, and it would be late by the time we got back to the apartment.

"Yeah, we'll take you to school from Grandma's house tomorrow," I said, remembering what Brett had gone through.

Brett nodded obediently and ran off, making sure to close the door behind him.

The room was filled with an awkward silence.

I couldn't help but glance at Royce, "Great, now we have no dignity in front of the kids."

"It'll be fine. We'll just lock the door next time," Royce said, kissing my wrist.

I glared at him, "If you keep talking like this, I won't speak to you anymore."

"Okay, I was wrong," Royce said, his apology sincere, though I wondered if he'd make the same mistake again.

The next day, Royce and I took Brett to school. After he went to class, we immediately went to speak with the school administrators about the incident.

The school officials seemed skeptical, "Our students are well-behaved. There must be some misunderstanding."

"I know your students are generally good, and you emphasize character education. But with so many kids, it's hard to catch every issue."

I looked the administrators in the eye.

"You can't guarantee every child is perfect. I believe my son wouldn't lie."

The administrators exchanged glances.
