Chapter 101 He Has Done So Much Quietly

Chapter 101 He Has Done So Much Quietly

As night fell, lights came on in homes across the city.

Oliver was exhausted from playing and sleeping soundly.

Isabella had just tucked in his blanket when the ward door was gently pushed open.

A tall, upright figure walked in, bringing with him a crisp evening breeze and a familiar cologne scent.

Isabella looked up toward the sound, a pair of black custom-made leather shoes, carrying a faint leather scent.

It was Terry.

Today, he wore a perfectly tailored dark gray artisan suit, no tie, with two buttons of his shirt casually undone at the collar, revealing his Adam's apple and a small patch of skin.

He'd clearly come straight from the office, with obvious fatigue still on his face.

But when his gaze fell on the small figure on the bed, all the sharpness and exhaustion instantly melted into tenderness.

"He's asleep?" Terry lightened his steps, walking to the bedside, his voice extremely low.

"Yes, just fell asleep." Isabella stood up, also instinctively lowering her voice. "Mr. Carter, what a rare visitor."

Since their unpleasant parting that night, this was Terry's first time coming in person.

These past few days, he'd sent Calvin over several times, but never showed up himself.

Terry ignored Isabella's sarcasm.

"No matter how busy, I have to come see him." His gaze never left Oliver. Watching Oliver's peaceful, serene sleeping face, the tension he'd carried all day finally relaxed.

He reached out, his broad, warm palm gently covering Oliver's forehead, checking his temperature.

"How did he feel today? Any discomfort anywhere?" he asked Isabella, his tone so natural as if there had never been any unpleasantness between them.

"No, everything's fine." Isabella shook her head, watching his natural movements with an indescribable feeling. "Recovery is going very well. After another week of observation, if there's no relapse, he can be discharged and recuperate at home."

"That's good." Terry nodded and withdrew his hand.

He seemed to want to say something to Isabella, but glancing at the sleeping Oliver, he swallowed his words and pointed toward the door. "Talk outside?"

Isabella nodded.

The two walked out of the room one after the other, she gently closing the door.

The corridor was empty, bright lights stretching their shadows long.

Before they could speak, Terry's phone rang again.

He glanced at the caller ID, made a "wait a moment" gesture to Isabella, then turned and walked toward the corner at the end of the corridor.

There was a small terrace at the end of the corridor, convenient for phone calls.

Isabella stood in place, watching his retreating figure, swallowing the words she'd wanted to say.

Terry's voice drifted from the distant corner. Because the environment was quiet, even though he deliberately lowered his voice, some scattered words and phrases still floated over intermittently.

Isabella had no intention of eavesdropping, but a few key words hooked her attention, making them impossible to ignore.

"Tomorrow morning at ten...execute on time...yes, no more variables, ensure nothing goes wrong."

Isabella's heart jumped!

Tomorrow morning at ten? Wasn't that the time of Luna's execution?

She instinctively held her breath, her feet moving uncontrollably, as if pulled by invisible strings, quietly edging a few steps toward the corner, hiding herself behind a large potted palm.

Terry's voice became clearer, a cold and decisive tone she'd never heard before, carrying a powerful aura of absolute authority.

This voice was completely different from his usual lazy, casual, even somewhat cynical manner, as if he were another person.

"What about the Elora lead? How's the investigation going?"

Elora?

This name made Isabella's steps pause slightly, her attention unconsciously drawn over.

She heard Terry on the phone continue in a cold voice: "Keep following up. I want to know all the financial transaction details between her and Luna, not a single one can be missed. Also, find out who's behind her. I always feel that Luna alone doesn't have the guts or brains to pull off something like this."

"Handle this cleanly, don't alert them. I don't want Isabella bothered by any potential danger again."

That last sentence seemed softer, but it left Isabella's heart unable to calm down for a long time.

After hanging up, the world returned to silence.

But Isabella stood frozen in place as if she'd heard something she shouldn't have, her mind instantly in turmoil.

So it was Terry.

The person who used thunderous methods to send Luna to her doom, leaving no room for mercy, was actually Terry.

All these days, he hadn't come; he'd been quietly clearing all obstacles for her where she couldn't see.

Even the Elora angle that she herself had overlooked, Terry was quietly following up on in the background.

She remembered her initial confusion. Why was Luna caught so quickly, and the trial process was surprisingly fast, plus the evidence chain was so perfect that Luna's lawyer had no way to fight back.

She thought it was Henry.

But Henry had told her on the phone that day that someone was faster than him and also more ruthless.

Now, all the mysteries had answers.

It was Terry.

He did all this without telling her.

Even when she thanked him in person, he just casually changed the subject.

If she hadn't accidentally overheard tonight, perhaps she would never know what kind of impregnable wall this man had built for her, blocking all the storms that might hurt her from the outside.

Why would he go to such lengths?

They had clearly ended five years ago... An indescribable warmth, mixed with tremendous shock and emotion, instantly broke through all of Isabella's psychological defenses.

She covered her mouth to keep from crying out. Her eyes uncontrollably welled up with stinging tears, something hot swirling inside them.

Isabella's heart was in chaos.

She took a deep breath, deciding to go talk properly with Terry.

But unfortunately, just as she stepped forward with her right foot, Terry's phone, which had just been hung up, rang again.

This time, the ringtone seemed to lack the urgent work feeling from before, sounding particularly cheerful.

It was a special ringtone...

Isabella's outstretched foot froze in mid-air.

She saw Terry take out his phone, and after glancing at the screen, his whole demeanor changed.
